1:18 Now the birth of Yeshua ha-Mashiach was like this; because when imo Miryam had been engaged to Yosef, before they came together, she was found pregnant by Ruach ha-Kodesh.  19 V'Yosef, her ba`al, ish tzaddik, and not willing to make her a public example, intended to put her away secretly.  20 But when he thought about these things, hinneh, malakh Adonai appeared to him in a dream, lemor, "Yosef, ben David, don't be afraid to take to yourself Miryam, your ishshah, for that which is conceived in her is of Ruach ha-Kodesh.  21 She shall bring forth a son, and you shall call his name Yeshua, for it is he who shall save his people from their chata'im."  22 Now all this has happened, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Adonai b'yad ha-navi, lemor,  23 "Hinneh, ha-almah 1-23a shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son.  They shall call his name 1-23b Immanu El;", which is, being interpreted, "El with us."[A]24 Yosef arose from his sleep, and did as malakh Adonai commanded him, and took his ishshah to himself;  25 and didn't know her (sexually) until she had brought forth her firstborn son.  Vayikra et-sh'mo Yeshua.

CHAPTER 2

2:1 Now Yeshua, having been born in Beit-Lechem Y'hudah bi'y'mei Hordos ha-melekh, hinneh, astrologers2-1 from the east came to Yerushalayim, lemor,  2 "Where is he who is born Melekh ha-Y'hudim?  For we, [when we were2-2a] in the east, saw his kokhav[A] and have come to bow before him." 2-2b3 When Hordos ha-melekh heard it, he was troubled, and all Yerushalayim with him.  4 Gathering together kol ha-Kohanim ha-G'dolim v'Sofrei ha`am, he asked them where Mashiach would be born.  5 They said to him, "B'Veit-Lechem Y'hudah, for thus it is written b'yad ha-navi,  6 'V'attah, Beit-Lechem [Efratah (i.e., on the way to, or toward, Efrat)], eretz Y'hudah, are in no way least2-6 among the clans of Y'hudah: For out of you shall come forth a ruler, who shall shepherd my people, Yisra'el.'"[B]

2:7 Then Hordos secretly called the astrologers and learned from them exactly what time ha-kokhav appeared.  8 He sent them to Beit-Lechem and said, "Go and search diligently for the young child.  When you have found him, bring me word, so that I also may come and bow before him."  9 They, having heard ha-melekh, went their way; v'hinneh, ha-kokhav, which they saw in the east, went before them, until it came and stood over where the young child was.  10 When they saw ha-kokhav, they rejoiced with simchah g'dolah ad-m'od.  11 Coming into ha-bayit, they saw the young child im-Miryam imo, and they fell down and bowed before him.  Opening their treasures, they offered to him gifts: zahav, frankincense, va'mor.  12 Being warned in a dream that they shouldn't return to Hordos, they went back b'derekh acher to their own eretz.

2:13 Now when they had departed, hinneh, malakh Adonai appeared to Yosef in a dream, saying, "Arise and take the young child v'imo, and flee into Mitzrayim, and stay there until I tell you, for Hordos will seek the young child to destroy him."  14 He arose and took the young child v'imo lailah, and departed into Mitzrayim,  15 and was there ad-mut Hordos; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Adonai b'yad ha-navi, lemor, "Mi-Mitzrayim I called b'ni."

2:16 V'Hordos, when he saw that he was mocked by the astrologers, was exceedingly angry, and sent out, and killed all the male children asher b'Veit-Lechem and in all the surrounding countryside, from two years old and under, according to the exact time which he had learned from the astrologers.  17 Then that which was spoken by Y'rmeyahu ha-navi was fulfilled, lemor,  18 "Qol b'Ramah2-18 was heard, lamentation, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her banim; She wouldn't be comforted, because they are no more."[C]

2:19 But when Hordos was dead, hinneh, malakh Adonai appeared in a dream to Yosef b'eretz Mitzrayim, lemor,  20 "Arise and take the young child v'imo, and go el-Eretz Yisra'el, for those who sought the young child's life are dead."  21 He arose and took the young child v'imo, and came el-Eretz Yisra'el.  22 But hearing that Archelaos was reigning over Y'hudah in the place of Hordos aviv, he was afraid to go there.  Being warned in a dream, he withdrew into the region of ha-Galil,  23 and having come, he lived in a city called Natzaret; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through ha-n'vi'im: "He will be called a Notzri."[D] 2-23

CHAPTER 3

3:1 Ba-yamim ha-hem, yavo Yochanan ha-matbil, preaching ba-midbar Y'hudah, lemor,  2 "Repent, ki malkhut ha-Shamayim is at hand!"3-23 For this is he who was spoken of by Y'shayahu ha-navi, lemor, "A voice cries out, 'Ba-midbar, make ready derekh YHWH.  Make his paths straight.'"[A]4 Now Yochanan himself had clothing made of camel's hair, and a leather belt around his waist.  His food was locusts and wild honey.  5 Then Yerushalayim, v'khol Y'hudah, v'khol kikkar ha-Yarden went out to him.  6 They were immersed by him ba-Yarden, having confessed their chata'im.

3:7 But when he saw rabbim min-ha-P'rushim v'ha-Tzaddukim coming for his immersion, he said to them, "You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?  8 Therefore asu p'ri tov li't'shuvah!  9 Don't think to yourselves, 'Avraham hu avinu,' for I tell you that Elohim is able min ha-avanim ha-eleh to raise up banim l'Avraham.  10 "Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees.  Therefore, kol`etz asher lo ya aseh p'ri tov is cut down, and cast ba-esh.

3:11 I indeed immerse you ba-mayim li't'shuvah, but he who comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to carry.  He shall immerse you ba-Ruach ha-Kodesh u'va-esh.  12 His winnowing fork[B] is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor.  He will gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire."[C]

3:13 Then Yeshua came min ha-Galil el-ha-Yarden el-Yochanan, to be immersed by him.  14 But Yochanan would have hindered him, saying, "I need to be immersed by you, and you come to me?"  15 But Yeshua, answering, said to him, "Allow it now, for this is the fitting way for us to fulfill kol ha-tz'dakah."  Then he allowed him.  16 Yeshua, when he was immersed, went up directly min-ha-mayim: v'hinneh, ha-shamayim were opened to him.  He saw Ruach Elohim descending ki yonah, and coming on him.  17 V'hinneh qol min-ha-shamayim said, "This is my Son, the beloved, in whom I have found delight."

CHAPTER 4

4:1 Then Yeshua was led up by ha-Ruach into ha-midbar to be tempted by ha-malshin.4-12 When he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was hungry afterward.  3 The tempter came and said to him, "Im ben ha-Elohim attah, command that ha-avanim ha-eleh become lechem."  4 But he answered, "It is written, 'Ha-adam shall not live by lechem alone, but by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of YHWH.'"[A]5 Then ha-malshin took him el`Ir ha-Kodesh.  He set him al-pinnat ha-Mikdash,  6 vayomer to him, "Im ben ha-Elohim attah, throw yourself down, ki khatuv, 'He will give his malakhim charge concerning you.' and, 'On their hands they will bear you up, so that you don't dash your foot against a stone.'"  7 Vayomer Yeshua to him, "Again, it is written, 'You shall not test YHWH your Elohim.'"[B]8 Again, ha-malshin took him to an exceedingly high mountain, and showed him kol maml'khot ha`olam, and their kavod.  9 Vayomer to him, "I will give you kol-zot if you will fall down and bow before me."  10 Vayomer Yeshua to him, "Get behind me, ha-malshin!  Ki katuv, 'You shall do reverence to YHWH your Elohim, and him only shall you serve.'"[C]11 Then ha-malshin left him, v'hinneh, malakhim came and ministered to him.

4:12 Now when Yeshua heard that Yochanan was delivered up, he withdrew into ha-Galil.  13 Leaving Natzeret, he came and lived in K'far-Nachum, which is by ha-yam, in the region of Z'vulun v'Naftali,  14 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Y'shayahu ha-navi, lemor,  15 "The land of Z'vulun and the land of Naftali, toward ha-yam, beyond ha-Yarden, Galil ha-goyim,  16 Ha`am who sat in darkness saw an or gadol; and to those who sat in the region and shadow of death, light has dawned."  17 From that time, Yeshua began to preach, and to say, "Repent!  For Malkhut ha-Shamayim is at hand."

4:18 Yeshua, walking al-yam ha-Galil, saw two achim: Shim`on, called Kefa, v'et Andrai achiv, casting a net ba-yam; for they were fishermen.  19 Vayomer to them, "Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of anashim."[D]20 They immediately left their nets and followed him.  21 Going on from there, he saw two achim acherim, Ya`akov ben Zavdai v'et Yochanan achiv, in the boat with Zavdai avihem, mending their nets, and he called them.  22 They immediately left the boat and avihem, and followed him.

4:23 Yeshua went about b'khol ha-Galil, teaching in their q'hillot,4-23 preaching b'sorat ha-malkhut, and healing every disease and every sickness among ha`am.  24 The report about him went forth b'khol Aram.  They brought to him all who were sick, afflicted with various diseases and torments, demoniacs, epileptics,4-24 and paralytics; and he healed them.  25 Hamon rav min-ha-Galil, Decapolis, Yerushalayim v'Y'hudah and from beyond ha-Yarden followed him.

CHAPTER 5

5:1 Seeing ha-hamonim, he went up onto a mountain.  When he had sat down, his talmidim came to him.
2 He opened his mouth and taught them, saying,
3 "Blessed are the poor in ruach, for theirs is Malkhut ha-Shamayim.
4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the humble, for they shall inherit ha-aretz.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst la'tz'dakah, for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see ha-Elohim.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called b'nei Elohim.
10 Blessed are those who have been persecuted because of tz'dakah, for theirs is Malkhut ha-Shamayim.
11 "Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake.  12 Chai,5-12 and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward ba-shamayim, for that is how they persecuted ha-n'vi'im who were before you.
13 "You are melakh ha-aretz, but if ha-melakh has lost its flavor, with what will it be salted?  It is then good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under the feet of b'nei adam.

5:14 Attem or ha`olam.  A city set on a hill can't be hidden.  15 Neither do you light a lamp, and put it under a measuring basket, ki im`al-ha-m'norah; and it shines l'khol asher ba-bayit.  16 Even so, let your light shine lifnei b'nei ha-adam, that they may see your ma`asim ha-tovim, and glorify Avikhem she-ba-shamayim.

5:17 "Don't think that I came to destroy ha-Torah o ha-N'vi'im.  I didn't come to destroy, but to fulfill.  18 For truly5-18 I tell you, until ha-shamayim v'ha-aretz pass away, not yod achat o kotz echad shall in any way pass away min-ha-Torah `ad asher ye`aseh ha-kol.  19 Therefore, whoever shall annul echad min-ha-mitzvot ha-q'tanot ha-eleh and teach b'nei ha-adam to do so, shall be called qatan ba-Malkhut ha-Shamayim; but whoever shall do and teach them shall be called gadol b'Malkhut ha-Shamayim,  20 for I tell you that unless your tz'dakah exceeds that of ha-Sofrim v'ha-P'rushim, there is no way you will enter el-Malkhut ha-Shamayim.

5:21 "You have heard that it was said to them of old time, 'Lo tirtzach' ['You shall not murder']; and 'Whoever shall murder shall be in danger of mishpat.'  22 But I tell you, that everyone who is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of mishpat; and whoever shall say to his brother, 'Reika!' shall be in danger of ha-sod; and whoever shall say, 'Naval!' shall be in danger l'esh Gei-Hinnom.5-2223 "If therefore you are offering your qorban el-ha-mizbeach, and there remember that your brother has anything against you,  24 leave your qorban there lifnei ha-mizbeach, and go your way.  First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your qorban.  25 Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are with him ba-derekh; lest perhaps the prosecutor deliver you el-ha-shofet v'ha-shofet deliver you to the officer, and you be cast into prison.  26 Truly I tell you, you shall by no means get out of there until you have paid the last kodrantes.

5:27 "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery;'  28 but I tell you that everyone who gazes b'ishshah to lust5-28 after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.  29 If your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and cast it from you.  For it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish, than for your whole body to be cast el-Gei-Hinnom.  30 If your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off, and cast it from you: for it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish, and not your whole body be cast el-Gei-Hinnom.5-29

5:31 "It was also said, 'Whoever shall put away his ishshah, let him give her a writing of divorce,'  32 but I tell you that whoever who puts away his wife, except for the cause of sexual immorality,5-32 makes her an adulteress; and whoever marries her when she is put away commits adultery.

5:33 "Again you have heard that it was said to them of old time, 'You shall not make false vows,[A] but shall perform to YHWH your vows,'[B] 34 but I tell you, don't swear falsely5-34 at all: neither by heaven, for it is kisseh Elohim;  35 v'lo va-aretz, for it is the footstool of his feet; v'lo b'Y'rushalayim, for it is the city of Melekh Rav.  36 Neither shall you swear by your head, for you can't make one hair white or black.  37 But let your speech be, 'Ken, ken; Lo, lo.'  Whatever is more than these is min ha-ra.

5:38 "You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.'  39 But I tell you, don't resist ha-ra; but whoever strikes you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.  40 If one would go to law with you and take away your coat, let him have your cloak also.  41 Whoever compels you to go one mile,5-41 go with him two.  42 Give to him who asks you, and don't turn away him who desires to borrow from you.

5:43 "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor, and hate your enemy.'  44 But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,  45 that you may be b'nei el-Avikhem she-ba-shamayim.  For he makes his shemesh to rise la-ra`im v'la-tovim, and sends rain la-tzadikkim and the unjust.  46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have?  Don't even the tax collectors do the same?  47 If you only greet your friends, what more do you do than others?  Don't even the tax collectors do the same?  48 Therefore you shall be perfect,5-48 just as your Father ba-shamayim is perfect.

CHAPTER 6

6:1 "Be careful that you don't do your tz'dakah lifnei b'nei adam, to be seen by them, or else you have no reward with Avikhem she-ba-shamayim.

6:2 Therefore when you do tz'dakah, don't sound a shofar before yourself, as ha`alamim do ba-q'hillot and in the streets, that they may get glory from anashim.  Truly I tell you, they have received their reward.  3 But when you do tz'dakah, don't let your left hand know what your right hand does,  4 so that your tz'dakah may be in secret, then Avikha who sees in secret will reward you openly.

6:5 "When you pray, you shall not be as ha`alamim, for they love to stand and pray ba-q'hillot and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by anashim.  Truly I tell you, they have received their reward.  6 But you, when you pray, enter into your inner chamber, and having shut your door, pray to Avikha who is in secret, and Avikha who sees in secret will reward you openly.

6:7 In praying, don't use vain repetitions,6-7 as ha-goyim do; for they think that they will be heard for their much speaking.  8 Therefore don't be like them, for Avikhem knows what things you need, before you ask him.  9 Pray like this:
'Our Father who is in heaven,
may your name be sanctified.
10 May you continue establishing your Kingdom.
May your will be done
in heaven and in earth.
11 Give us this day our necessary portion.
12 Forgive us our sins as we also have forgiven those
who have sinned against us.
13 Do not bring us into the grasp of temptation,[A]
but deliver us from the evil one.6-13a
[For yours is ha-mamlakhah, the power and the glory l`olmei `olamim.  Amein.'6-13b]
14 "For if you forgive men their trespasses, Avikhem she-ba-shamayim will also forgive you.  15 But if you don't forgive men their trespasses, neither will Avikhem forgive your trespasses.

6:16 "Moreover when you fast, don't be like ha-`alamim, with sad faces.  For they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen liv'nei adam to be fasting.  Truly I tell you, they have received their reward.  17 But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face;  18 that you are not seen liv'nei adam to be fasting, but im-l'Avikha who is in secret, v'Avikha, who sees in secret, will repay you in the open.

6:19 "Don't lay up treasures for yourselves ba-aretz, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal;  20 but lay up for yourselves treasures ba-shamayim, where neither moth nor rust consume, and where thieves don't break through and steal;  21 for where your treasure is, your heart will be there also.

6:22 "Ner ha-guf hu ha-`ayin.  If therefore your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light.  23 But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be full of darkness.6-23  If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!

6:24 "No one can serve sh'nei adonim, for either he will hate ha-echad, and love ha-acher; or else he will hold ba-echad, and despise ha-acher.  You can't serve both ha-Elohim v'et ha-mammon.

6:25 Therefore, I tell you, don't be anxious for your nefesh: what you will eat, or what you will drink; nor yet for your guf, what you will put on.  Isn't ha-nefesh more than food, and ha-guf more than clothing?  26 See the birds of ha-shamayim, that they don't sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; v'Avikhem she-ba-shemayim feeds them.  Aren't you of much more value than they?  27 "Which of you, by being anxious, can add one cubit to the measure of his stature?  28 Why are you anxious about clothing?  Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow.  They don't toil, neither do they spin,  29 yet I tell you that even Shlomoh in all his glory was not dressed like one of these.  30 But if Elohim so clothes the grass of the field, which today exists, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, won't he much more clothe you, (you of) little-emunah?  31 "Therefore don't be anxious, saying, 'What will we eat?', 'What will we drink?' or, 'With what will we be clothed?'  32 For ha-goyim seek after all these things, for Avikhem ba-shamayim knows that you need kol eleh.  33 But seek ba-rishonah et-Malkhut Elohim, and his tzedek, v'khol eleh will be added to you.

6:34 Therefore don't be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself.  Each day's own evil is sufficient.

CHAPTER 7

7:1 "Don't judge, so that you won't be judged.  2 For with whatever mishpat you judge, you will be judged; and with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you.  3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but don't consider the beam that is in your own eye?  4 Or how will you tell your brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye;' and behold, the beam is in your own eye?  5 `Alam!  First remove the beam out of your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck out of your brother's eye.

7:6 "Don't give ha-kodesh to the dogs, neither cast your pearls lifnei ha-chazirim, lest perhaps they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

7:7 "Ask, and it will be given you.  Seek, and you will find.  Knock, and it will be opened to you.  8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.  9 Or what man is there of you, who, if his son asks him for lechem, will give him an even?  10 Or if he asks for a dag, who will give him a nachash?  11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your y'ladim, how much more will Avikhem shebashamayim give good things to those who ask him!  12 Therefore whatever you desire for men to do to you, you shall also do to them; ki zot ha-Torah v'ha-n'vi'im.

7:13 "Enter in by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate, and broad is ha-derekh, that leads to avaddon, and many are those who enter in by it.  14 How narrow is the gate, and restricted is ha-derekh leading away into chayyim!  Few are those who find it.

7:15 "Beware of false n'vi'im, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves.  16 By their fruits you will know them.  Do you gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles?  17 Even so, kol `etz tov `oseh p'ri tov; but the corrupt tree `oseh p'ri ra.  18 `Etz tov can't bring forth p'ri ra, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth p'ri tov.  19 Kol `etz that doesn't grow p'ri tov is cut down, and thrown ba-esh.  20 Therefore, by their fruits you will know them.

7:21 Not everyone who says to me, 'Adoni, Adoni' will enter b'malkhut ha-Shamayim; but he who does the will of Avi shebashamayim.  22 Many will tell me ba-yom ha-hu, 'Adoni, Adoni, didn't we prophesy by your name, by your name cast out shedim, and by your name7-22 do many mighty works?'  23 Then I will tell them, 'I never knew you.  Depart from me, you who work iniquity.'

7:24 "Everyone therefore who hears these d'varim of mine, and does them, I will liken him to a chakham, who built his house on a rock.  25 The rain came down, the rivers came up, and ha-ruchot blew, and beat ba-bayit ha-hu; and it didn't fall, for it was founded `al-ha-tzur.  26 Everyone who hears these d'varim of mine, and doesn't do them will be like a foolish man, who built his house on the sand.  27 The rain came down, the rivers came, and ha-ruchot blew, and beat ba-bayit ha-hu; and it fell -- and great was its fall."

7:28 It happened, when Yeshua had finished saying ha-d'varim ha-eleh, that ha-hamon was astonished at his teaching,  29 for he taught them with authority, and not like ha-Sofrim.

CHAPTER 8

8:1 When he came down min ha-har, hamon rav followed him.  2 V'hinneh, m'tzora came to him and bowed down to him, saying, "Adoni, if you want to, you can make me tahor."  3 Yeshua stretched out his hand, and touched him, saying, "I want to.  Be made tahor."  Immediately his tsara'at was cleansed.  4 Vayomer Yeshua to him, "See that you tell nobody, but go, show yourself to ha-Kohen, and offer ha-qorban that Mosheh commanded, as an `edut to them."

8:5 When he came into Kafar-Nachum, a centurion came to him, asking him,  6 and saying, "Adoni, my yeled lies ba-bayit paralyzed, grievously tormented."  7 Vayomer Yeshua to him, "I will come and heal him."  8 The centurion answered, "Adoni, I'm not worthy for you to come under my roof.  Just say the davar, and my yeled will be healed.  9 For I am also a man under authority, having under myself soldiers.  I tell this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come,' and he comes; and to my `eved, '`Aseh-zot, v`asah.'"  10 When Yeshua heard it, he marveled, and said to those who followed, "Amein.  B'Yisrael I tell you, I haven't found emunah g'dolah kha-zot.  11 I tell you that rabbim yavou from the east and the west, and will sit down `im-Avraham v'Yitzchak v'Ya`akov b'Malkhut ha-Shamayim,  12 but b'nei ha-Malkhut8-12 will be thrown out into the outer darkness.  There will be weeping and the gnashing of teeth."  13 Vayomer Yeshua to the centurion, "Go your way.  Let it be done for you as you have believed."  His yeled was healed in that hour.

8:14 When Yeshua came b'veit Kefa, he saw his wife's mother8-14 lying sick of a fever.  15 He touched her hand, and the fever left her.  She got up and served him.  16 Va'y'hi erev, they brought to him many possessed with shedim.  He cast out ha-ruchot b'davar, and healed all who were sick;  17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Yeshayahu ha-navi, lemor: "He took our infirmities, and bore our diseases."

8:18 Va'y'yi when Yeshua saw hamon rav about him, he gave the order to depart to the other side (of ha-yam.  19 Sofer echad came, vayomer to him, "Moreh, I will follow you wherever you go."  20 Vayomer Yeshua to him, "The foxes have holes, and the birds of ha-shamayim have nests, but Bar Enash8-20 has nowhere to lay his head."  21 Another of his talmidim said to him, "Adoni, allow me first to go and bury my father."8-2122 Vayomer Yeshua to him, "Lech acharai, and leave ha-metim to bury their own dead."

8:23 When he got into a boat, his talmidim followed him.  24 V'hinneh, a great shaking arose ba-yam so much that the boat was covered with the waves, but he was asleep.  25 They came to him, and woke him up, saying, "Adoneinu, hoshienu, !  We are perishing!"  26 Vayomer to them, "Why are you fearful, (you of) little emunah?"  Then he got up, rebuked the wind va-yam, and there was a great calm.  27 Ha-anashim marveled, saying, "What kind (of man) is this, that even the wind va-yam obey him?"

8:28 When he came to the other side, into the country of ha-Gadriyim, two demoniacs met him there, coming forth out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that none could pass by derekh ha-hu.  29 V'hinneh, they cried out, saying, "What do we have to do with you, Yeshua, Ben Elohim?  Have you come here to torment us before the time?"  30 At a distance from them, a herd of chazirim rabbim was feeding.  31 Ha-shedim begged him, saying, "If you cast us out, permit us to go away into the herd of chazirim."  32 Vayomer to them, "Go!"  They came out, and went into the herd of chazirim: v'hinneh, the whole herd of chazirim rushed down the cliff al-ha-yam, and died ba-mayim.  33 Those who fed them fled, and went away into ha`ir and told everything, including what happened to those who were possessed with shedim.  34 V'hinneh, kol ha`ir came out to meet Yeshua.  When they saw him, they begged that he would depart from their borders.

CHAPTER 9

9:1 He entered into a boat, and crossed over, and came into his own city.  2 V'hinneh, they brought to him a man who was paralyzed, lying on a bed.  Yeshua, seeing their emunah, said to the paralytic, "Chazak, b'ni!  Your chata'im are forgiven9-2 you."  3 V'hinneh, some of ha-Sofrim said to themselves, "This (man) blasphemes."  4 Yeshua, knowing their thoughts, said, "Why do you think evil in your hearts?  5 For which is easier, to say, 'Your chata'im are forgiven;' or to say, 'Get up, and walk?'  6 But that you may know that Bar Enash has authority ba-aretz to forgive sins..." (then he said to the paralytic), "Get up, and take up your mat, and go up el-beitekha."  7 He arose and departed l'beito.  8 But when ha-hamonim saw it, they marveled and glorified Elohim, who had given such authority li'b'nei adam.

9:9 As Yeshua passed by from there, he saw a man called Mattai sitting at the tax collection office, vayomer to him, "Follow me."  He got up and followed him.

9:10 It happened as he reclined ba-bayit, hinneh, many tax collectors and sinners came and reclined with Yeshua and his talmidim.  11 When ha-P'rushim saw it, they said to his talmidim, "Why does your moreh eat with tax collectors v'ha-chatta'im?"  12 Yeshua heard this vayomer to them, "Those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but those who are sick do.  13 But you go and learn what this means: 'I desire chesed, v'lo zavach,' for I came not to call ha-tzaddikim, but chatta'im li't'shuvah."

9:14 Then talmidei Yochanan came to him, saying, "Why do we and ha-P'rushim fast often, but your talmidim don't fast?"  15 Vayomer Yeshua to them, "Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them?  But yamim ba'im when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.  16 No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch would tear away from the garment, and a worse hole is made.  17 Neither do people put tirosh into old wineskins, or else the skins would burst, and ha-yayin be spilled, and the skins ruined.  No, they put tirosh into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved."9-17

9:18 While he told these things to them, hinneh, a ruler came and bowed down to him, saying, "My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live."  19 Yeshua got up and followed him, as did his talmidim.  20 V'hinneh, ishshah who had an issue of blood for twelve years came behind him, and touched the tzitziyot of his garment;9-2021 for she said within herself, "If I just touch his garment, I will be made well' [Grk sozo]."  22 But Yeshua, turning around and seeing her, said, "Biti, be strong!  Your emunah has made you well."  And ha-ishshah was made well from that hour.  23 When Yeshua came into the ruler's bayit and saw the flute players, and ha-hamon in noisy disorder,  24 he said to them, "Make room, because the young lady isn't dead, but sleeping."  They laughed at him.  25 But when ha-hamon was put out, he entered in, took her by the hand, and the young lady arose.  26 The report of this went forth b'khol ha-aretz ha-hi.

9:27 As Yeshua passed by from there, two blind (ones) followed him, calling out and saying, "Have mercy on us, Ben David!"  28 When he had come into ha-bayit, the blind (ones) came to him.  Vayomer Yeshua to them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?"  They told him, "Ken, Adoni."  29 Then he touched their eyes, saying, "According to your emunah be it done to you."  30 Their eyes were opened.  Yeshua strictly charged them, saying, "See that no one knows about this."  31 But they went out and spread abroad his fame b'khol ha-aretz ha-hi.

9:32 As they went forth, hinneh, there was brought to him a mute man who was demon possessed.  33 Ha-shed having been cast out, the mute (man) spoke.  Ha-hamonim marveled, saying, "Nothing like this has ever been seen b'Yisrael!"  34 But ha-P'rushim said, "Al-y'dei sar ha-shedim, he casts out ha-shedim."

9:35 Yeshua went about all the cities and the villages, teaching in their q'hillot, and preaching b'sorat ha-Malkhut, and healing every disease and every sickness among ha`am.  36 But when he saw ha-hamonim, he was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, as sheep without a ro`eh.  37 At that time he said to his talmidim, "The harvest indeed is plentiful, but the laborers are few.  38 Pray therefore that the ba`al of the harvest will send forth laborers into his harvest."

CHAPTER 10

10:1 He called to himself his twelve talmidim and gave them authority over ruchot ha-tumah, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every sickness.  2 Now the names of the twelve shlichim are these.  Ha-rishon, Shim`on, ha-niqra Kefa v'Andrai achiv; Ya`akov ben Zavdai v'Yochanan achiv;  3 Pilipos; Bar-Talmai; Toma; Mattai the tax collector; Ya`akov ben Chalfai; v'Labbai, whose surname was Taddai;  4 Shim`on the Kana`ani;10-4a v'Y'hudah Ish-Kriyot,10-4b who also betrayed him.

10:5 Yeshua sent these twelve forth, and charged them, saying, "Don't go el-derekh ha-goyim, and don't enter into any city of ha-Shomronim.  6 Rather, go to the lost sheep of Beit Yisra'el.  7 As you go, preach, saying, 'Malkhut ha-Shamayim has drawn near!'  8 Heal the sick, cleanse ha-m'tzora'im, and cast out shedim.  Freely you received, so freely give.  9 Take no zahav v'lo kesef v'lo n'choshet in your belts.  10 Take no bag for your journey,10-10 neither two coats, nor shoes, nor staff: for the laborer is worthy of his food.  11 Into whatever city or village you enter, find out who in it is worthy; and stay there until you go on.  12 As you enter into ha-bayit, greet it.  13 If ha-bayit is worthy, let your shalom come on it, but if it isn't worthy, let your shalom return to you.  14 Whoever doesn't receive you, nor hear your d'varim, as you go forth out min ha-bayit ha-hu u'min ha`ir ha-hi, shake off the dust from your feet.  15 Truly I tell you, it will be more tolerable for eretz S'dom v'`Amorah b'yom ha-din min ha`ir ha-hi.

10:16 "Hinneh, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves.  Therefore be wise as n'chashim, and harmless as yonim.  17 But beware mi-b'nei ha-adam: for they will deliver you up to sodim, and in their q'hillot10-17a they will scourge10-17b you.  18 Yes, and you will be brought before governors and m'lakhim for my sake, for an `edut to them v'la-goyim.  19 But when they deliver you up, don't be anxious how or what you will say, for it will be given you in that hour what you will say.  20 For it is not you who speak, ki Ruach Avikhem hu who speaks in you.  21 "Brother will deliver up brother la-mavet, and the father his child.  Children will rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death.  22 You will be hated by kol adam for my name's sake, but he who endures `ad-`et ketz, the same will be saved [Grk sozo].  23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee into the next, for truly I tell you, you will not have gone through the cities of Yisra'el until Bar Enash has come.

10:24 "A talmid is not above his moreh v'`eved `al-adonav.  25 It is enough for ha-talmid that he be like his moreh, and ha-`eved like his adon.  If they have called ba`al ha-bayit Ba`al-Z'vuv, how much more those of his bayit!

10:26 Therefore don't be afraid of them, for there is nothing covered that will not be revealed; and hidden that will not be known.  27 What I tell you in the darkness, speak va-or; and what you hear whispered in the ear, proclaim on the housetops.  28 Don't be afraid of those who kill ha-guf, but are not able to kill ha-nefesh.  Rather, fear him who is able to destroy both ha-nefesh gam ha-guf b'gei-Hinnom.10-2829 "Aren't two sparrows sold for an assarion?  Not one of them falls on ha-aretz apart from your Father's will,  30 but the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  31 Therefore don't be afraid.  You are of more value than many sparrows.  32 Everyone therefore who confesses me lifnei ha-adam, him I will also confess lifnei Avi she-ba-shemayim.  33 But whoever denies me lifnei ha-adam, him I will also deny lifnei Avi she-ba-shemayim.

10:34 "Don't think that I came to send shalom ba-aretz.  I didn't come to send shalom, but a sword.  35 For I came to set a man at odds against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.  36 A man's foes will be those of his own bayit.   37 He who loves aviv v'et imo more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves b'no u'vito more than me isn't worthy of me.  38 He who doesn't take his stake and follow after me isn't worthy of me.  39 He who finds his life will lose it; and he who loses his life for my sake will find it.

10:40 He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives him who sent me.  41 He who receives a navi l'shem navi will receive the reward of a navi: and he who receives a tzaddik l'shem tzaddik will receive the reward of a tzaddik.  42 Whoever gives one of these little ones just a cup of cold mayim to drink in the name of a talmid, truly I tell you he will in no way lose his reward."

11:1 It happened that when Yeshua had finished directing his twelve talmidim, he departed there to teach and preach in their cities.

11:2 Now when Yochanan heard in the prison ma`asei ha-Mashiach, he sent two of his talmidim  3 vayomer to him, "Ha-attah hu ha-ba, or should we look for another?"  4 Yeshua answered them, "Go and tell Yochanan the things which you hear and see:  5 the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, m'tzora'im are cleansed, the deaf hear, metim are raised up, and the poor have ha-b'sorah preached to them.[A;]6 Blessed is he who finds no occasion for stumbling in me."

11:7 As these went their way, Yeshua began to say to ha-hamonim concerning Yochanan, "What did you go out into ha-midbar to see?  A reed shaken by the wind?  8 But what did you go out to see?  A man in soft clothing?  Hinneh, those who wear soft clothing are in batei m'lakhim.  9 But why did you go out?  To see a navi?  Yes, I tell you, and much more than a navi.  10 Ki zeh hu asher katuv of him, 'Hinneh, I send my malakh before your face, who will prepare your way before you.'  11 Amein.[11-11]  I tell you, among those born of ishshah there has not arisen anyone greater than Yochanan ha-matbil; yet he who is least in Malkhut ha-Shamayim is greater than he.  12 Mi'y'mei Yochanan ha-matbil until now, Malkhut ha-Shamayim spreads in strength, and the strong seize it.11-12 13 Ki khol-ha-n'vi'im v'ha-Torah prophesied until11-13 Yochanan.  14 If you are willing to receive it, zeh hu Eliyah, who is to come.  15 He who has ears to hear, let him hear.  16 "But to what will I compare ha-dor hazeh?  It is like y'ladim sitting in the marketplaces, who call to their companions  17 and say, 'We played the flute for you, and you didn't dance.  We mourned for you, and you didn't lament.'  18 For Yochanan came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a shed.'  19 Bar Enash came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and chatta'im!'  But chokhma is justified by her y'ladim."

11:20 Then he began to denounce the cities in which most of his mighty works were done, because they didn't repent.  21 "Woe to you, Katzrin!  Woe to you, Beit-Tzaidah!  For if the mighty works had been done b'Tzor v'Tzidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.  22 But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tzor v'Tzidon b'yom ha-din than for you.  23 V'at, K'far-Nachum, who are exalted `ad-ha-shamayim, you will go down to She'ol.  For if the mighty works had been done in S'dom which were done in you, it would have remained ad-ha-yom hazeh.  24 But I tell you that it will be more tolerable for eretz S'dom b'yom ha-din than for you."

11:25 At that time, Yeshua answered, "I thank you, Avi, Adon ha-shamyyim v'aretz, that you hid these things from ha-chakhamim and understanding, and revealed them to infants.  26 Yes, Avi, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight.  27 All things have been delivered to me by Avi.  No one knows ha-ben, except ha-Av; neither does anyone know ha-Av except ha-ben, and he to whm ha-ben wants to reveal him.  28 "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.  29 Take my yoke on you, and learn from me, for I am humble and lowly in heart; and you will find rest for your nafshot.  30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

12:1 At that time, Yeshua went b'yom ha-Shabbat through the grain fields.  His talmidim were hungry and began to pluck heads of grain and to eat.  2 But ha-P'rushim, when they saw it, said to him, "Hinneh, your talmidim do what is not lawful to do ba-Shabbat."  3 Vayomer to them, "Haven't you read what David did, when he was hungry, and those who were with him;  4 how he entered el-Beit ha-Elohim and ate lechem ha-panim[A] which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for those who were with him, but only la-Kohanim?  5 Or have you not read ba-Torah ki ba-Shabbatot ha-Kohanim ba-Mikdash profane ha-Shabbat and are guiltless?[B]6 But I tell you that one greater than ha-Mikdash is here.  7 But if you had known what this means, 'I desire chesed v'lo zavach,'[C] you would not have condemned the guiltless.  8 Ki Bar Enash hu gam-adon ha-Shabbat."

12:9 He departed there, and went into their qahal.  10 V'hinneh, there was a man with a withered hand.  They asked him, "Is it lawful to heal ba-Shabbatot?" that they might accuse him.  11 He said to them, "What man is there among you, who has one sheep, and if this one falls into a pit ba-Shabbatot, won't he grab on to it, and lift it out?  12 How much, then, is a man of more value than a sheep!  Therefore it is lawful to do good ba-Shabbatot."  13 Then he told the man, "Stretch out your hand."  He stretched it out; and it was restored whole, just like the other.  14 But ha-P'rushim went out and took counsel against him, how they might destroy him.

12:15 Yeshua, perceiving that, withdrew from there.  Hamon rav followed him; and he healed them all,  16 and charged them that they should not make him known:  17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Yeshayahu ha-Navi, lemor,  18 "Hinneh, my `eved whom I have chosen; My beloved in whom my nefesh is well pleased: I will put my Ruach on him.  He will declare mishpat la-goyim.  19 He will not strive, nor shout; Neither will anyone hear his voice in the streets.  20 He won't break a bruised reed.  He won't quench a smoking flax, until he sends forth mishpat to victory.  21 In his name, ha-goyim will hope."[D]

12:22 Then there was brought to him one possessed by a shed, blind and mute, and he healed him, so that the blind and mute man both spoke and saw.  23 Kol ha-hamonim were amazed, and said, "Can this be ben-David?"  24 But when ha-P'rushim heard it, they said, "This (one) does not cast out shedim, except by Ba`al-Z'vuv, sar ha-shedim."  25 Knowing their thoughts, Yeshua said to them, "Every mamlakhah divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or bayit divided against itself will not stand.  26 If ha-satan casts out ha-satan, he is divided against himself.  How then will his mamlakhah stand?  27 If I by Ba`al-Z'vuv cast out shedim, by whom do your banim cast them out?  Therefore they will be your shoftim.  28 But if I by Ruach Elohim cast out shedim, then Malkhut ha-Elohim has come on you.  29 Or how can one enter into beit ha-gibbor and plunder his goods, except he first bind ha-gibbor?  Then he will plunder his bayit.  30 "He who is not with me is against me, and he who doesn't gather with me, scatters.  31 Therefore I tell you, kol chet v'gidduf will be forgiven men, but gidduf ha-Ruach will not be forgiven men.  32 Whoever speaks a word against Bar Enash, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against Ruach HaKodesh, it will not be forgiven him, lo-ba`olam hazeh v'lo-va`olam ha-ba.

12:33 "Either make ha`etz tov, and its p'ri tov, or make ha`etz ra and its p'ri ra; for ha`etz is known by its p'ri.  34 You offspring of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things?  For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.  35 Ha-ish ha-tov out of his good treasure brings forth good things, v'ha-ish ha-ra out of his evil treasure brings forth evil things.  36 I tell you that every idle word that men speak, they will give account of it b'yom ha-din.  37 For by your words you will be made tzedek, and by your words you will be condemned."

12:38 Then certain min-ha-Sofrim v'ha-Perushim answered, saying, "Moreh, we want to see a sign from you."  39 But he answered vayomer to them, "An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and there will no sign be given it but the sign of Yonah ha-Navi.  40 For as Yonah was three days and three nights in the belly of ha-dag gadol, so will Bar Enash be three days and three nights in the heart of ha-aretz.  41 Anshei Nineveh will stand up l'mishpat `im ha-dor hazeh and will condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Yonah; v'hinneh, someone greater than Yonah is here.  42 Malkat teiman will rise up ba-mishpat `im ha-dor hazeh, and will condemn it, for she came from the ends of ha-aretz to hear chokhmat Shlomoh; v'hinneh, someone greater than Shlomoh is here.

12:43 But ha-ruach ha-t'me'ah, when he is gone out min ha-adam, passes through waterless places seeking rest and doesn't find it.  44 Then he says, 'I will return into my bayit whence I came out,' and when he has come back, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order.  45 Then he goes, and takes with himself seven other ruchot more evil than himself, and they enter in and dwell there.  The last (state) of ha-adam ha-hu becomes worse than the first.  Even so will it be also la-dor ha-ra hazeh."

12:46 While he was yet speaking to ha-hamonim, hinneh, imo and his brothers stood outside, seeking to speak to him.  47 One said to him, "Hinneh, imkha and your brothers stand outside, seeking to speak to you."  48 But he answered vayomer to him who told him, "Mi hi imo?  Who are my brothers?"  49 He stretched forth his hand towards his talmidim vayomer, "Hinneh, imo and my brothers!  50 For whoever will do the will of Avi shebashamayim, he is my brother, and sister, and mother."

13:1 Ba-yom ha-hu Yeshua went out min-ha-bayit and sat by the seaside.  2 Hamon rav gathered to him, so that he entered into a boat and sat, and kol ha-hamon stood on the beach.  3 He spoke to them many things in moshalim, saying, "Hinneh, a farmer went forth to sow.  4 As he sowed, some z'ro'im fell by the roadside, and the birds came and devoured them.  5 Others fell `al-adamat sela, where they didn't have much adamah, and immediately they sprang up, because they had no depth of adamah.  6 When ha-shemesh had risen, they were scorched.  Because they had no root, they withered away.  7 Others fell on thorns.  The thorns grew up and choked them:  8 and others fell on adamah tovah, and yielded p'ri: some one hundred times, some sixty, and some thirty.  9 He who has ears to hear, let him hear."

13:10 Ha-talmidim came and said to him, "Why do you speak to them in moshalim?"  11 He answered vayomer to them, "To you it is given to know sodot Malkhut ha-Shamayim, but it is not given to them.  12 For whoever has, to him will be given, and he will have abundance, but whoever doesn't have, from him will be taken away even that which he has.  13 Therefore I speak to them in moshalim because seeing they don't see, and hearing, they don't hear, neither do they understand.  14 In them the prophecy of Yeshayahu is fulfilled, which says,
'By hearing you will hear, and will in no way understand;
Seeing you will see, and will in no way perceive:
15 Ki lev ha`am hazeh has grown callous,
their ears are dull of hearing,
their eyes they have closed;
or else perhaps they might perceive with their eyes,
hear with their ears,
understand with their heart,
and should turn again; and I would heal them.'[A]
16 "But blessed are your eyes, for they see; and your ears, for they hear.  17 Amein, for I tell you that n'vi'im v'tzaddikim rabbim desired to see the things which you see, and didn't see them; and to hear the things which you hear, and didn't hear them.

13:18 "Hear, then, ha-moshal of the farmer.  19 When anyone hears d'var ha-Malkhut and doesn't understand it, ha-ra comes and snatches away that which has been sown in his heart.  This is what was sown by the roadside.  20 What was sown on the rocky places, this is he who hears ha-davar, and immediately receives it b'simchah;  21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while.  When oppression or persecution arises because of ha-davar, immediately he stumbles.  22 What was sown among the thorns, this is he who hears ha-davar, but the cares of ha`olam hazeh and the deceitfulness of riches choke ha-davar, and he becomes unfruitful.  23 What was sown on ha-adamah ha-tovah, this is he who hears the word, and understands it, who most assuredly bears fruit, and brings forth, some one hundred times, some sixty, some thirty."

13:24 He set before them mashal acher, lemor, "Malkhut ha-Shamayim is like a man who sowed zera tov in his sadeh,  25 but while people slept, his enemy came and sowed darnel also among the wheat, and went away.  26 But when the blade sprang up and brought forth fruit, then the darnel appeared also.  27 `Avdei ba`al ha-bayit came and said to him, 'Adoneinu, didn't you sow zera tov in your sadeh?  Where did this darnel come from?'  28 "Vayomer to them, 'An enemy has done this.'  "Ha`avadim asked him, 'Do you want us to go and gather them up?'  29 "Vayomer, 'No, lest perhaps while you gather up the darnel, you root up the wheat with them.  30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and in the harvest time I will tell the reapers, "First, gather up the darnel, and bind them in bundles to burn them; but gather the wheat into my barn."'"13-30

13:31 He set before them mashal acher, lemor, "Malkhut ha-Shamayim is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his sadeh;  32 v'hu qatan mi-kol ha-zero'im.  But when it is grown, it is greater than the herbs, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of ha-shamayim come and lodge in its branches."

13:33 He spoke to them mashal acher.  "Malkhut ha-Shamayim is like s'or, which an ishshah took and hid in three measures of meal, until it was all chametz."

13:34 Yeshua spoke all these things in moshalim el-hamon; and without a mashal, he didn't speak to them,  35 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through ha-navi, saying,
"I will open my mouth in moshalim;
I will utter things hidden from the foundation of ha`olam

13:36 Then Yeshua sent away ha-hamonim and went ba-bayit.  His talmidim came to him, saying, "Explain to us ha-mashal of the darnel of ha-sadeh."  37 He answered them, "He who sows ha-zera ha-tov hu Bar-Enash,  38 ha-sadeh hu ha`olam, v'zera ha-tov, b'nei ha-Malkhut hem; and the darnel b'nei ha-ra hemah.  39 The enemy who sowed them is ha-malshin.  The harvest is the end of ha`olam, and the reapers are malakhim.  40 As therefore the darnel is gathered up and burned ba-esh; so will it be in the end of ha`olam hazeh.  41 Bar Enash will send forth his malakhim, and they will gather out mi-malkhuto all things that cause stumbling, and those who do iniquity,  42 and will cast them into the furnace of ha-esh.  There will be weeping and the gnashing of teeth.  43 Then ha-tzaddikim ka-shemesh will shine forth b'malkhut avihem.  He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

13:44 "Malkhut ha-Shamayim is like a treasure hidden in ha-sadeh, which a man found, and hid.  In his simchah, he goes and sells all that he has, and buys ha-sadeh ha-hu.

13:45 "Again, Malkhut ha-Shamayim is like a man who is a merchant seeking fine pearls,  46 who, having found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

13:47 "Again, Malkhut ha-Shamayim is like a dragnet, that was cast la-yam, and gathered some fish of every kind,  48 which, when it was filled, they drew up on the beach.  They sat down, and gathered the good into containers, but the bad they threw away.  49 So will it be in the end of ha`olam.  Ha-malakhim will come forth, and separate the wicked from among ha-tzaddikim,  50 and will cast them into the furnace of fire.  There will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth."

13:51 Vayomer Yeshua to them, "Have you understood kol eleh?"  They answered him, "Ken, Adoneinu."  52 Vayomer to them, "Therefore, every Sofer who has been made a talmid to Malkhut ha-Shamayim is like a man who is a ba`al bayit, who brings forth out of his treasure new and old things."

13:53 It happened that when Yeshua had finished these moshalim, he departed from there.  54 Coming into his own country, he taught them in their qahal, so much that they were astonished, and said, "Where did this man get chokhmah hazot and these mighty works?  55 Isn't this the carpenter's son?  Isn't shem imo Miryam, v'echav Ya`akov v'Yosef v'Shim`on v'Y'hudah?  56 Aren't all of his achayot with us?  Where, then, did this man get kol eleh?"  57 They were offended by him.  But Yeshua said to them, "A navi is not without honor except in his own country, and in his own bayit."  58 He didn't do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

14:1 At that time, Hordos the tetrarch heard the report concerning Yeshua,  2 vayomer to his avadim, "Zeh hu Yochanan ha-matbil.  He is risen min-ha-metim.  That is why these powers work in him."  3 For Hordos had laid hold of Yochanan and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, wife of his brother Philippos.  4 For Yochanan said to him, "It is not lawful for you to have her."  5 When he would have put him to death, he feared ha-hamon, because they counted him as a navi.  6 But when the birthday14-6 of Hordos came, bat Herōodias danced in the midst, and pleased Hordos.  7 Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatever she should ask.  8 She, being put forward by her mother, said, "Give me here on a platter rosh Yochanan ha-matbil."  9 Ha-melekh was grieved, but for the sake of his oaths, and of those who reclined with him, he commanded it to be given,  10 and he sent and beheaded Yochanan in the prison.  11 His head was brought on a platter, and given to he young lady: and she brought it to her mother.  12 His talmidim came, and took up the body, and buried it; and they went and told Yeshua.

14:13 Now when Yeshua heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat, to a desert place apart.  When ha-hamon heard it, they followed him on foot min-ha`arim.  14 Yeshua went out, and he saw a hamon rav.  He had compassion on them, and healed their sick.  15 When evening had come, his talmidim came to him, saying, "This place is a desert, and the hour is already late.  Send ha-hamon away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves food."  16 Vayomer Yeshua to them, "They don't need to go away.  You give them something to eat."  17 They told him, "We only have here five loaves and two dagim."  18 Vayomer, "Bring them here to me."  19 He commanded ha-hamon to sit down on the grass; and he took the five loaves and the two dagim and, looking up to ha-shamayim, he blessed, and broke and gave the loaves to ha-talmidim, and ha-talmidim to ha-hamon.  20 They all ate, and were filled.  They took up twelve baskets full of that which remained left over from the broken pieces.  21 Those who ate were about five thousand anashim, besides nashim and children.

14:22 Immediately Yeshua made ha-talmidim get into the boat, and to go ahead of him to the other side, while he sent ha-hamon away.  23 After he had sent ha-hamon away, he went up into ha-har apart to pray.  When evening had come, he was there alone.  24 But the boat was now in the midst of ha-yam, distressed by the waves, for the wind was against them.  25 In the fourth watch of the night14-25 Yeshua came to them, walking al-p'nei ha-yam.  26 When ha-talmidim saw him walking al-p'nei ha-yam, they were troubled, saying, "It is a mareh ruach!"14-26 and they cried out for fear.  27 But immediately Yeshua spoke to them, saying "Chizku!  I AM!14-27  Don't be afraid."

14:28 Kefa answered vayomer to him, "Adoni, if it is you, command me to come to you al-ha-mayim."  29 Vayomer, "Bo!"  Kefa went down from the boat, and walked al-ha-mayim to come to Yeshua.  30 But when he saw that the wind was strong, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, "Adoni, hoshieni!"  31 Immediately Yeshua stretched forth his hand, took hold of him, vayomer to him, "(You of) little-emunah, why did you doubt?"  32 When they got up into the boat, the wind ceased.  33 Those who were in the boat came and bowed down to him, saying, "Be'emet Ben Elohim attah!"

14:34 When they had crossed over, they came to eretz Ginneisar.  35 When anshei ha-maqom ha-hu recognized him, they sent into all that region round about, and brought to him all who were sick,  36 and they begged him that they might only touch the tzitzit of his garment.  As many as touched it were thoroughly saved [cured].

CHAPTER 15

15:1 Then ha-P'rushim v'Sofrim from Yerushalayim approach Yeshua, saying,  2 "Why do your talmidim disobey kabbalat15-2 ha-Z'kenim?  For they don't wash their hands when they eat bread."  3 He answered them, "Why do you also disobey mitzvat Elohim because of your kabbalah?  4 For Elohim commanded, 'Honor your father and your mother,'[A] and, 'He who speaks evil of father or mother, by death let him end.'[B] 5 But you say, 'Whoever may tell his father or his mother, "Whatever help you might otherwise have gotten from me is qorban devoted to Elohim,"15-56 he will not honor his father or mother.'  You have made mitzvat Elohim void because of your kabbalah.  7 `Alamim!  Well did Yeshayahu prophesy of you, saying,  8 'These people draw near to me with their mouth, and honor me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.9 But in vain do they bow down to me, teaching as Torah mitzvot anashim.'"[C]

15:10 He called ha-hamon to himself vayomer to them, "Hear, and understand.  11 That which enters into the mouth doesn't defile ha-adam; but that which proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles ha-adam."  12 Then ha-talmidim came and said to him, "Do you know that ha-P'rushim were offended when they heard this saying?"  13 But he answered, "Every plant which Avi shebashamayim didn't plant will be uprooted.  14 Let them alone.  They are blind guides of the blind.  If the blind guide the blind, both will fall into a pit."  15 Kefa answered him, "Explain ha-mashal to us."  16 So Yeshua said, "Do you also still not understand?  17 Don't you understand that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the belly and is thrown out into the latrine?  18 But the things which proceed out of the mouth come forth out of the heart, and they defile ha-adam.  19 For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual sins, thefts, false testimony, and blasphemies.  20 These are the things which defile ha-adam; but to eat with unwashed hands doesn't defile ha-adam."

15:21 Yeshua went out from there, and withdrew into the parts of Tzor v'Tzidon.  22 V'hinneh, K'na'anit came out from those borders, and cried, saying, "Have mercy on me, Adoni, ben David!  Biti is severely demon-possessed!"  23 But he answered her not a word.  His talmidim came and begged him, saying, "Send her away; for she cries after us."  24 But he answered, "I wasn't sent to anyone but the lost sheep of beit Yisra'el."  25 But she came and bowed down to him, saying, "Adoni, help me."  26 But he answered, "It is not appropriate to take lechem ha-banim and throw it to the dogs."  27 But she said, "Ken, Adoni, but even the dogs eat the crumbs which fall me`al shulchan adoneihem."  28 Then Yeshua answered her vayomer, "O, Ishshah, great is your emunah!  Be it done to you even as you desire."  And bitah was healed from that hour.

15:29 Yeshua departed there, and came el-yam ha-Galil; and he went up into ha-har, and sat there.  30 There came to him hamon rav, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others, and they threw them at the feet of Yeshua, and he healed them,  31 so that ha-hamon had to marvel when they saw the mute speaking, injured whole, lame walking, and blind seeing -- and they glorified Elohei Yisra'el.

15:32 Yeshua, having called his talmidim near, said, "I have compassion on ha-hamon, because they continue with me now three days and have nothing to eat.  I don't want to send them away fasting, or they might faint on the way."  33 Ha-talmidim said to him, "Where should we get so much lechem ba-midbar as to fill hamon rav ka-zeh?"  34 Vayomer Yeshua to them, "How many loaves do you have?"  They said, "Seven, and a few dagim k'tanim."  35 He commanded ha-hamon to recline on the ground;  36 and taking the seven loaves and ha-dagim,  he gave thanks and broke them, and gave to ha-talmidim, v'ha-talmidim el-ha-hamon.  37 All ate and were filled, and they took up seven baskets full of the broken pieces that were left over.  38 Those who ate were four thousand anashim, besides nashim and children.  39 And sending away ha-hamon, he entered into the boat and came into the borders of Magdala

16:1 Ha-P'rushim v'ha-Tzaddukim came, and testing him, asked him to show them ot min-ha-shamayim.  2 But he answered vayomer to them, "Ba-`erev, you say, '(It will be) calm (weather), for ha-shamayim is adom.'  3 U'va-boker, 'A storm ha-yom, for ha-shamayim is adom and threatening.'  `Alamim!  Indeed, you know how to discern the face of ha-shamayim, but you can't discern the signs of the times.  4 Dod ra and adulterous seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it but the sign of Yonah ha-Navi."  He left them, and departed.

16:5 Ha-talmidim came to the other side and forgot to take lechem.  6 VayomerYeshua to them, "Take heed and beware of s'or ha-P'rushim v'ha-Tzaddukim."  7 They reasoned among themselves, saying, "We brought no lechem."  8 Yeshua perceived it vayomer to them, "Why do you reason among yourselves, (you of) little-emunah, 'because you have brought no lechem?'  9 Don't you yet perceive nor remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many baskets you took up?  10 Nor the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many baskets you took up?  11 How is it that you don't perceive that I didn't speak to you concerning lechem?  But beware of s'or ha-P'rushim v'ha-Tzaddukim."  12 Then they understood that he didn't tell them to beware of s'or ha-lechem, but of the teaching of ha-P'rushim v'ha-Tzaddukim.

16:13 Yeshua, coming into the region of Kisrin shel-Pilippos, he asked his talmidim, saying, "Who do anashim say mi hu Bar Enash?"  14  They said, "Some say Yochanan ha-Matbil, some Eliyahu, and others, Yirm'yahu or one of ha-N'vi'im."  15  Vayomer to them, "But who do you say that I am?"  16Shim`on Kefa answered, "Attah hu ha-Mashiach, Ben ha-Elohim ha-chayyim."16-1617  Yeshua answered him vayomer, "Blessed are you, Shim`on Bar-Yonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but Avi shebashamayim.  18  I also tell you that attah Kefa, v`al ha-sela hazeh et-evneh edati, and the gates of She'ol will not prevail against it.  19  I will give to you the keys of Malkhut ha-Shamayim, and whatever you will bind `al-ha-aretz will be bound ba-Shamayim; and whatever you will loose `al-ha-aretz will be loosed ba-Shamayim."  20  Then he charged ha-talmidim that they should tell no man that he is Yeshua ha-Mashiach.

16:21 From that time, Yeshua began to show to his talmidim that he must go to Yerushalayim and suffer many things from ha-Z'kenim v'ha-Kohanim ha-G'dolim v'ha-Sofrim and be killed, and the third day be raised up.  22Kefa took him aside, and began to rebuke him, saying, "Far be it from you, Adoni!  This will never be done to you."  23  But he turned vayomer l'Kefa, "Get behind me, ha-satan!  You are a stumbling-block to me, for you do not think the things of Elohim, but the things of anashim."

16:24Vayomer Yeshua to his talmidim, "If any man desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his stake, and follow me.  25  For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, and whoever will lose his life for my sake will find it.  26  For what will it profit a man, if he gains kol ha`olam, and forfeits his life?  Or what will a man give in exchange for his life?  27Ki Bar Enash will come bi-kavod Aviv with his malakhim, and then he will render to everyone according to his ma`asim.  28Amen.  I tell you, there are some standing here who will in no way taste of death, until they see Bar Enash coming in his malkhut."

CHAPTER 17

17:1 After six days, Yeshua took with him Kefa, Ya`akov, v'Yochanan his brother, and brought them up into a high mountain by themselves.  2  He was transfigured before them.  His face shone like ha-shemesh, and his garments became as white as the light.  3V'hinneh, there appeared to them Mosheh v'Eliyahu talking with him.  4Kefa answered vayomer el-Yeshua, "Adoni, it is good for us to be here.  If you wish, let's make three sukkot here: one for you, one for Mosheh, and one for Eliyahu."  5  While he was still speaking, hinneh, a bright cloud overshadowed them.  V'hinneh, a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.  Listen to him."  6  When ha-talmidim heard it, they fell on their faces, and were very afraid.  7  Yeshua came and touched them and said, "Get up, and don't be afraid."  8  Lifting up their eyes, they saw no one, except Yeshua alone.

17:9 As they were coming down min-ha-har, Yeshua commanded them, saying, "Don't tell anyone what you saw, until Bar Enash has risen me-im ha-metim."  10  His talmidim asked him, saying, "Then why do ha-Sofrim say that Eliyahu must come first?  11  Yeshua answered them, "Eliyahu indeed comes first, and will restore all things,  12  but I tell you that Eliyahu has come already, and they didn't recognize him, but did to him whatever they wanted to.  Even so will Bar Enash also suffer by them."  13  Then ha-talmidim understood that he spoke to them of Yochanan ha-matbil.

17:14 When they came toward ha-hamon, a man came to him, kneeling to him, saying,  15  "Adoni, have mercy on beni, for he is moonstruck,17-15 and suffers grievously; for he often falls ba-esh, and often into ha-mayim.  16  So I brought him to your talmidim, and they could not cure him."  17  Yeshua answered, "Faithless and perverse generation!  How long will I be with you?  How long will I bear with you?  Bring him here to me."  18  Yeshua rebuked it and ha-shed went out of him, and the boy was cured from that hour.  19  Then ha-talmidim came to Yeshua privately, and said, "Why weren't we able to cast it out?"  20Vayomer Yeshua to them, "Because of your unbelief.  Amen.  I tell you, if you have emunah as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell ha-har hazeh, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.  21  But this kind doesn't go out except by prayer and fasting."17-21

17:22 While they were staying ba-Galil, Yeshua said to them, "Bar Enash is about to be delivered up into the hands of anashim,  23  and they will kill him, and the third day he will be raised up."  They grieved exceedingly.

17:24 When they had come to K'far Nachum, those who collected the didrachmas came to Kefa, and said, "Doesn't your moreh pay the didrachma?"17-2425Vayomer, "Ken."  When he came into ha-bayit, Yeshua anticipated him, saying, "What do you think, Shim`on?  From whom do malkhei ha-aretz receive toll or tribute?  From their banim, or from strangers?"  26Vayomer Kefa to him, "From strangers."  Vayomer Yeshua to him, "Therefore ha-banim are exempt.  27  But, lest we cause them to stumble, go el-ha-yam and cast a hook, and take up ha-dag ha-rishon that comes up.  When you have opened his mouth, you will find a stater.  Take that, and give it to them for me and you."

CHAPTER 18

18:1 In that hour ha-talmidim came to Yeshua, saying, "Then mi hu ha-gadol b'malkhut ha-shamayim?"  2  Yeshua, calling a child forward, set him in the midst of them,  3vayomer, "Amen.  I tell you, unless you turn and become as children, you will in no way enter into malkhut ha-shamayim.  4  Whoever therefore will humble himself ka-yeled hazeh, hu ha-gadol b'malkhut ha-shamayim.

18:5 Whoever will receive yele echad ka-zeh in my name receives me,  6  but whoever puts a snare in the way of one of these k'tanim who believe in me, it would be better for him that a huge millstone should be hung around his neck, and that he should be sunk in the depths of ha-yam.

18:7 "Oy la`olam because of occasions of stumbling!  For it must be that the occasions come, but woe to that person through whom the occasion comes!  8  If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off, and cast it from you.  It is better for you to enter into life maimed or crippled, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast el-esh `olam.  9  If your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out, and cast it from you.  It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast el-esh Gei-Hinnom.

18:10 See that you don't despise echad ha-q'tanim ha-eleh, for I tell you that their malakhim ba-shamayim always see p'nei Avi shebashamayim.  11  [Ki Bar Enash came to save that which was lost.]18-1112  "What do you think?  If a man has one hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, doesn't he leave the ninety-nine, go to the mountains, and seek that which has gone astray?  13  If he happens to find it, truly I tell you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine which have not gone astray.  14  Even so it is not the will of Avikhem shebashamayim that one of these little ones should perish.

18:15 "If your brother sins against you, go, show him his fault between you and him alone.  If he listens to you, you have gained back your brother.  16  But if he doesn't listen, take one or two more with you, that at the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.  17  If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to ha-qahal.  If he refuses to hear ha-qahal also, let him be to you as ha-goyim or a tax collector.  18  Truly I tell you, whatever things you will bind `al-ha-aretz will be bound ba-shamayim, and whatever things you will loose `al-ha-aretz will be loosed ba-shamayim.  19  Again, assuredly I tell you, that if two of you will agree ba-aretz concerning anything that they will ask, it will be done for them by Avi shebashamayim.  20  For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in the midst of them."

18:21 Then Kefa came and said to him, "Adoni, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him?  Until seven times?"  22  Vayomer Yeshua to him, "I don't tell you until seven times, but, until seventy times seven.

18:23 On the contrary, malkhut hashamayim is like a certain melekh, who wanted to reconcile accounts with his `avadim.  24  When he had begun to reconcile, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand kikkar.18-2425  But because he couldn't pay, his adon commanded him to be sold, with his wife, his children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.  26  Then ha-`eved fell down and knelt before him, saying, 'Adoni, have patience with me, and I will repay you all.'  27  Adonei ha-`eved ha-hu, being moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt.  28  "But ha-`eved ha-hu went out and found one of his fellow-servants, who owed him one hundred denarii, and he grabbed him, and took him by the throat, saying, 'Pay me what you owe!'  29  "So his fellow-servant fell down at his feet and begged him, saying, 'Have patience with me, and I will repay you.'  30  He would not, but went and cast him into prison until he should pay back that which was due.  31  So when his fellow-servants saw what was done, they were exceedingly sorry, and came and told to their adon all that was done.  32  Then his adon called him in, and said to him, 'You wicked `eved!  I forgave you all that debt, because you begged me.  33v Shouldn't you also have had mercy on your fellow-servant, even as I had mercy on you?'  34  His adon was angry, and delivered him to the tormentors until he should pay all that was due to him.  35  So will Avi shebashamayim also do to you if you don't each forgive his brother from your hearts for his misdeeds."

19:1 Va'y'hi when Yeshua had finished ha-d'varim ha-eleh, he departed min-ha-Galil and came into the region of Y'hudah beyond ha-Yarden.  2  Hamonim rabbim followed him, and he healed them there.

19:3 P'rushim approached him, testing him, and saying, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason?"  4  He answered vayomer, "Haven't you read that he who made them b'reishit made them male and female,  5  and said, 'For this cause a man will leave avi v'et imo, and will join to ishto; and the two will become basar eched?'  6  So that they are no more two, but basar echad.  So what Elohim has yoked together, don't let ben adam divide."  7  They asked him, "Why, then, did Mosheh command us to give her a book of divorce, and release her?"  8  Vayomer to them, "Mosheh, because of the hardness of your hearts, allowed you to release your wives, but me-rosh it has not been so.  9  I tell you that whoever sends away his ishshah, except for sexual immorality,19-9a and marries another, commits adultery; [and he who marries her when she is divorced commits adultery]."19-9b

19:10 His talmidim said to him, "If this is the case of the man with his wife, it is not expedient to marry."  11  Vayomer to them, "Not all men can accept ha-davar hazeh, but those to whom it is given.  12  For there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother's womb, and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men; and there are eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs for the sake of Malkhut ha-Shamayim.  He who is able to receive it, let him receive it."

19:13 Then little children were brought to him, that he should lay his hands on them and pray; and ha-talmidim rebuked them.  14  Vayomer Yeshua, "Allow the little children, and don't forbid them to come to me; for to such belongs Malkhut ha-Shamayim."  15  He laid his hands on them, and departed from there.

19:16 Hinneh, one came to him vayomer, "Moreh ha-tov, what good thing shall I do, that I may have chayyei `olam?"  17  Vayomer to him, "Why do you call me ha-tov?  Ein tov ki im-echad, v'hu ha-Elohim.  But if you want to enter la-chayyim, keep ha-mitzvot."  18  Vayomer to him, "Which ones?"  Vayomer Yeshua, "Lo tirtzach.  You shall not commit adultery.  You shall not steal.  You shall not offer false testimony.  19  Honor your father and mother.[A]  And, you shall love your neighbor as yourself.[B]"  20  The young man said to him, "All these things I have observed from my youth.  What do I still lack?"  21  Vayomer Yeshua to him, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure ba-shamayim; and come, follow me."  22  But when the young man heard the saying, he went away sad, for he was one who had great possessions.

19:23 Vayomer Yeshua to his talmidim, "Amen.  I say to you, a rich man will enter el-Malkhut ha-shamayim with difficulty.  24  Again I tell you, it is easier for a gamal to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter el-Malkhut ha-Elohim."  25  When ha-talmidim heard it, they were exceedingly astonished, saying, "Who then can be saved [Grk sozo]?"  26  Yeshua looked at them vayomer, "Mi-b'nei adam this is impossible, but with Elohim all things are possible."  27  Then Kefa answered, "Hinneh, we have left everything and followed you.  What then will we have?"  28  Vayomer Yeshua to them, "Amen.  I tell you, that you who have followed me, in the regeneration when Bar Enash will sit on the throne of his kavod, you also will sit on twelve kisot, judging the twelve tribes of Yisra'el.  29  Everyone who has left batim o achim o achayot o av o em o ishshah o banim o sadot for my name's sake, will receive one hundred times as much, and will inherit chayyei `olam.  30  But many will be last who are first; and first who are last.

20:1 "Ki Malkhut ha-Shamayim is l'ish ba`al bayit who went out early ba-boker to hire laborers for his kerem.  2 When he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his kerem.  3 He went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace.  4 Vayomer to them, 'You also go into ha-kerem, and whatever is right I will give you.'  So they went their way.  5 Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did likewise.  6 About the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing idle.  He said to them, 'Why do you stand here all day idle?'  7 "They said to him, 'Because no one has hired us.'  "Vayomer to them, 'You also go into ha-kerem, and you will receive whatever is right.'  8 Evening had come, vayomer adon ha-kerem to his steward, 'Call the laborers and pay them their hire, beginning min ha-acharonim `ad ha-rishonim.'  9 "When those who were hired at about the eleventh hour came, they each received a denarius.  10 When ha-rishonim came, they supposed that they would receive more; and they likewise each received a denarius.  11 When they received it, they murmured against ba`al ha-bayit,  12 saying, 'These last have spent one hour, and you have made them equal to us, who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat!'  13 "But he answered one of them, 'Friend, I am doing you no wrong.  Didn't you agree with me for a denarius?  14 Take that which is yours, and go your way.  It is my desire to give to this last just as much as to you.  15 Isn't it lawful for me to do what I want to with what I own?  Or do you have an `ayin ha-ra,20-15 because tov ani?'  16 So ha-acharonim will be rishonim, and ha-rishonim will be acharonim.  [For many are called, but few are chosen.20-16]"

20:17 As Yeshua was going up to Yerushalayim, he took the twelve talmidim aside, vayomer to them ba-derekh,  18 "Hinneh, we are going up to Yerushalayim u'Var Enash, will be delivered l'Roshei ha-Kohanim v'Sofrim, and they will condemn him la-mut,  19 and will hand him over to ha-goyim to mock, to scourge, and to hang on the stake; u'va-yom ha-shlishi he will be raised up."

20:20 Then came to him em b'nei Zavdai `im baneiha, kneeling and asking a certain thing of him.  21 Vayomer to her, "What do you want?"  Vatomer to him, "Command that these, my two banim, may sit, one on your right hand, and one on your left hand, in your malkhut."  22 But Yeshua answered Vayomer, "You don't know what you ask.  Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink, and be immersed with the immersion that I am immersed with?"  They said to him, "We are able."  23 Vayomer to them, "You will indeed drink my cup, [and be immersed with the immersion that I am immersed with,20-23] but to sit on my right hand, and on my left hand, is not mine to give; but it is for whom it has been prepared by Avi shebashamayim."  24 When the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation concerning the two brothers.  25 But Yeshua called them to himself, vayomer, "You know that sarei ha-goyim lord it over them, and their g'dolim exercise authority over them.  26 It shall not be so among you, but whoever desires to become gadol among you shall be your shammash.  27 Whoever desires l'rosh among you shall be your `eved,  28 even as Bar Enash came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a kofer for many."

20:29 And going out mi-Y'richo, a hamon rav followed him.  30 V'hinneh, two blind men sitting by the road, when they heard that Yeshua was passing by, cried out, "Have mercy on us, Adon, ben David!"  31 But ha-hamon rebuked them, telling them that they should be quiet, but they cried out even more, "Have mercy on us, Adon, ben David!"  32 Yeshua stood still, and called them, and asked, "What do you want me to do for you?"  33 They told him, "Adon, that our eyes may be opened."  34 Yeshua, being moved with compassion, touched their eyes; and immediately their eyes received their sight, and they followed him.

21:1 When they drew near to Yerushalayim, and came to Beit-Pagei, el-Har ha-Zetim, then Yeshua sent sh'nayim min-talmidim,  2 va'yomer to them, "Go into the village that is opposite you, and immediately you will find an aton tied, and an `ayir with her.  Untie them, and bring them to me.  3 If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, 'Ha-Adon needs them,' and immediately he will send them."  4 All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through ha-Navi, lemor,  5 "Tell Bat Tziyon, Hinneh, your melekh comes to you, humble, and riding `al-chamor v`al-`ayir ben atonot."[A] [See Gordon, pg. 44, footnote 53 re. chamor/aton]  6 Ha-talmidim went, and did just as Yeshua commanded them,  7 and brought ha-aton v'et-ha-`ayir, and laid their clothes on them; and he sat on them.  8 Most of ha-hamon spread their clothes `al-ha-derekh.  Others cut branches from `etzim and spread them `al-ha-derekh.  9 V'ha-hamonim who went before him, and who followed, cried, "Hoshi`ah na!"[B] l'ven David.21-9  "Barukh ha-ba b'Shem YHWH!  Hoshi`a-na!" (they cried to the one) "ba'm'romim!"  10 When he had come into Yerushalayim, kol ha`ir was stirred, saying, "Mi zeh?"  11 V'ha-hamonim said, "Zeh hu ha-Navi, Yeshua mi-Natzeret ba-Galil."

21:12 Yeshua entered el-Mikdash ha-Elohim and drove out all of those who sold and bought ba-Mikdash, and overthrew the money-changers' tables and the seats of those who sold ha-yonim.  13 He said to them, "It is written, 'My bayit will be called a beit t'fillah,'[C] but you have made it a den of robbers!"[D]

21:14 The blind and the lame came to him ba-Mikdash, and he healed them.  15 But when ha-Kohanim ha-G'dolim v'ha-Sofrim saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children who were crying in the temple and saying, "Hoshia`na!" l'Ven David, they were moved with indignation,  16 and said to him, "Do you hear what these are saying?"  Vayomer Yeshua to them, "Ken.  Did you never read, 'Out of the mouth of babes[E] and nursing babies you have perfected praise'21-16?"  17 He left them, and went forth out of ha`ir el-Beit-Anyah, and lodged there.

21:18 Returning early in the morning to the city, he was hungry.  19 Seeing a fig tree by ha-derekh, he came to it and found nothing on it but leaves.  Vayomer to it, "May there be no fruit on you `ad`olam!"  Immediately the fig tree withered away.  20 When ha-talmidim saw it, they marveled, saying, "How did the fig tree immediately wither away?"  21 Yeshua answered vayomer to them, "Amein.  I tell you, if you have faith and don't doubt, you will not only do what is done to the fig tree, but even if you will tell ha-har hazeh, 'Be taken up and cast into ha-yam,' it will be done.  22 All things, whatever you will ask in prayer, believing, you will receive."

21:23 When he had come el-ha-Mikdash, ha-Kohanim ha-G'dolim v'ziknei ha`am came to him as he was teaching, vayomru, "By what authority do you do these things?  Who gave you this authority?"  24 Yeshua answered vayomer to them, "I also will ask you one question which, if you tell me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things.  25 The immersion of Yochanan, where was it from?  Min-ha-shamayim o mi-b'nei adam?"  They reasoned with themselves, saying, "If we will say, 'Min-ha-shamayim,' he will ask us, 'Why then did you not believe him?'  26 But if we will say, 'Mi-b'nei adam,' we fear ha-hamon, for all hold Yochanan l'navi."  27 They answered Yeshua, and said, "We don't know."  Vayomer to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

21:28 But what do you think?  A man had two banim, and he came el-ha-rishon vayomer, 'B'ni, go work today in my kerem.'  29 He answered vayomer, 'I will not,' but afterward he repented himself, and went.  30 He came el-ha-sheni and said likewise.  He answered, 'Ani (go), adoni,' but he didn't go.  31 Which of the two did the will of ha-av?"  They said to him, "Ha-rishon."  Vayomer Yeshua to them, "Amein.  I tell you that the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering el-Malkhut ha-Elohim before you.  32 For Yochanan came to you ba-derekh tz'dakah, and you didn't believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him.  When you saw it, you didn't even repent afterward, that you might believe him.

21:33 "Hear mashal acher.  There was an ish ba`al bayit hayah who planted a kerem, set a hedge about it, dug a winepress in it, built a migdal, leased it out to farmers, and went into another country.  34 When the season for the fruit drew near, he sent his `avadim to the farmers, to receive his fruit.  35 The farmers took his `avadim, beat one, killed another, and stoned another.  36 Again, he sent other `avadim more than the first: and they did to them in like manner.  37 But afterward he sent to them b'no, saying, 'They will respect my son.'  38 But the farmers, when they saw ha-ben, said among themselves, 'This is the heir.  Come, let's kill him, and seize his inheritance.'  39 So they took him, and threw him out of the kerem, and killed him.  40 So when ba`al ha-karem comes, what will he do to those farmers?"  41 They told him, "He will utterly destroy those wicked men, and will lease out ha-kerem to other farmers, who will give him the fruit in its season."

21:42 Vayomer Yeshua to them, "Did you never read ba-K'tuvim, 'An even which the builders rejected, the same was made l'rosh pinnah.  This was from YHWH.  It is marvelous in our eyes?'[F].  43 "Because of this I tell you, Malkut ha-Shamayim will be taken away from you, and will be given to a goy bringing forth its fruits.  44 He falling `al-ha-even ha-hi will be broken to pieces, but on whomever it will fall, it will scatter him as dust."

21:45 When ha-Kohanim ha-G'dolim v'ha-P'rushim heard his moshalim, they perceived that he spoke about them.  46 When they sought to lay hold on him, they feared ha-hamonim, because they took him for a navi.

22:1 Yeshua answered and spoke again bi'm'shalim to them, saying,  2 "Malkhut ha-Shamayim is like a certain melekh who made a marriage feast for b'no,  3 and sent forth his `avadim to call those who were invited to the marriage feast, but they would not come.  4 Again he sent forth `avadim acherim, lemor, 'Tell those who are invited, "Hinneh, I have made ready my dinner.  My oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready.  Come to the marriage feast!"'  5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his merchandise,  6 and the rest grabbed his `avadim and treated them shamefully and killed them.  7 But ha-melekh was angry, and he sent his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.  8 "Then he said to his `avadim, 'The wedding is ready, but those who were invited weren't worthy.  9 Therefore, go to the intersections of the highways, and as many as you may find, invite to the marriage feast.'  10 `Avadim ha-hem went out into the highways, and gathered together as many as they found, both bad and good.  The wedding was filled with guests.

22:11 But when ha-melekh came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who didn't have on wedding clothing,  12 vayomer to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here not having wedding clothing?'  He was speechless.  13 Vayomer ha-melekh to ha-shammashim, 'Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and throw him into the outer darkness; there is where the weeping and grinding of teeth will be.'  14 For many are called, but few chosen."

22:15 Then ha-P'rushim went and took counsel how they might entrap him in his talk.  16 They sent talmidim to him, along with ha-Hordosiyyim, saying, "Moreh, we know ki ish emet attah, and teach derekh Elohim b'emet, no matter who you teach, for you aren't partial to anyone.  17 Tell us therefore, what do you think?  Is it lawful to pay taxes to Kaisar or not?"  18 But Yeshua perceived their wickedness, vayomer, "Why do you test me, `alamim?  19 Show me the tax money."  They brought to him a denarius.  20 He asked them, "Whose is this image and inscription?"  21 They said to him, "Kaisar's."  Then he said to them, "Give therefore to Kaisar the things that are Kaisar's, and to God the things that are God's."  22 When they heard it, they marveled, and left him, and went away.

22:23 Ba-yom ha-hu Tzaddukim (those who say that ein t'chiyat ha-metim) came to him.  They asked him,  24 saying, "Moreh, Mosheh said, 'If a man dies, having no banim, his brother shall marry his ishshah, and raise up zera for his brother.'[♦]25 Now there were with us shiv`ah achim.  Ha-rishon having married and his life having ended, and having no zera left his ishshah l'achiv.  26 In like manner gam ha-sheni, and the third, ad ha-sh'vi'i.  27 V'acharei all of them, ha-ishshah died.  28 In t'chiyat ha-metim therefore, whose ishshah will she be of ha-shiv`ah?  For they all had her."

22:29 But Yeshua answered vayomer to them, "You are mistaken, not knowing ha-K'tuvim, nor the power of Elohim.  30 For in t'chiyat ha-metim they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like malakhei Elohim ba-Shamayim.  31 But concerning t'chiyat ha-metim, haven't you read that which was spoken to you by Elohim, saying,  32 'Anokhi Elohei Avraham velohei Yitzchak velohei Ya`akov?'[B]Elohim is not Elohei ha-metim ki im-Elohei ha-chayyim."  33 And having heard it, ha-hamonim were astonished at his torah.

22:34 But ha-P'rushim, when they heard that he had put ha-Tzaddukim to silence, gathered themselves together.  35 One of them, a ba`al ha-Torah, asked him a question, testing him.  36 "Moreh, which is mitzvah g'dolah ba-Torah?"  37 Vayomer Yeshua to him, "'Ahavta et YHWH Eloheikha b'khol l'vavkha u'v'khol nafsh'kha and all your mind.'[C]38 Zot hi ha-mitzvah ha-g'dolah v'ha-rishonah.  39 And ha-sheni is like to it, 'Ahavta l're`akha kamokha.'[D]40 On these two mitzvot hang kol ha-Torah v'ha-N'vi'im."

22:41 Now while ha-P'rushim were gathered together, Yeshua asked them a question,  42 saying, "What do you think of ha-Mashiach?  Ben mi hu?"  They said to him, "Of David."  43 Vayomer to them, "How then does David ba-ruach call him Adon, saying,  44 'YHWH said to Adoni, Sit on my right hand, until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet'?[E]45 "If then David calls him Adon, how is he beno?"  46 No one was able to answer him a word, neither dared any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.

23:1 Then Yeshua spoke to ha-hamon and to his talmidim,  2 saying, "Ha-Sofrim v'ha-P'rushim have seated themselves on kisse Mosheh.  3 All things therefore whatever they23-3 tell you to observe, observe and do, but don't do their ma`asim; for they say, and don't do.  4 For they bind heavy burdens that are grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not lift a finger to help them,  5 But all their works they do to be seen by anashim.  They make their tefillin broad and enlarge the tzitziyot of their garments,  6 and love the chief place at feasts, the chief seats in ha-q'hillot,23-67 the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called 'Rabbi, Rabbi' by anashim.  8 But don't you be called 'Rabbi,' for one is your leader, ha-Mashiach, and all of you are achim.  9 Call no man ba-aretz your av, ki echad hu Avikhem asher ba-Shamayim.  10 Neither be called teachers, for one is your teacher, ha-Mashiach.  11 But he who is ha-gadol among you will be your shammash.  12 Whoever will exalt himself will be humbled, and whoever will humble himself will be exalted.

23:13 "Oy to you, ha-Sofrim v'ha-P'rushim, `alamim!  For you devour widows' houses, and as a pretense you make long prayers.  Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.  14 "But oy to you, ha-Sofrim v'ha-P'rushim, `alamim!  Because you shut up Malkhut ha-Shamayim against b'nei adam; for you don't enter in yourselves, neither do you allow those who are entering in to enter.  15 Oy to you, ha-Sofrim v'ha-P'rushim, `alamim!  For you travel around ba-yam and dry land to make one convert; and when he becomes (one), you make him twice as much of a ben Gei-Hinnom as yourselves.

23:16 "Oy to you, you blind guides, who say, 'Whoever swears by ha-Mishkan, it is nothing; but whoever swears by zahav ha-Mishkan, he is a debtor.'  17 Fools and blind!  Ki ma-hu ha-gadol, ha-zahav o ha-Mishkan that sanctifies ha-zahav?  18 'Whoever will swear by ha-mizbeach, it is nothing; but whoever will swear ba-qorban that is on it, he is a debtor.'  19 You blind fools!  Ki mah-hu ha-gadol, ha-qorban o ha-mizbeach that sanctifies ha-qorban?  20 He therefore who swears ba-mizbeach swears by it and by everything on it.  21 He who swears ba-heikhal swears by it and by him who is living in it.  22 He who swears ba-shamayim swears b'khisse Elohim and by him who sits on it.

23:23 "Oy to you, ha-Sofrim v'ha-P'rushim, `alamim!  For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of ha-Torah: ha-mishpat v'et-ha-chesed v'et-ha-emunah.  But you ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.  24 You blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a gamal!

23:25 "Oy to you, ha-Sofrim v'ha-P'rushim, alamim!  For you clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and unrighteousness.  26 You blind Parush, first clean the inside of the cup and of the platter, that the outside of it may become clean also.

23:27 "Oy to you, ha-Sofrim v'ha-P'rushim, alamim!  For you are like whitened tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.  28 Even so you also outwardly appear k'tzaddikim el-b'nei adam, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

23:29 "Oy to you, Sofrim v'ha-P'rushim, alamim!  For you build the tombs of ha-n'vi'im, and decorate the tombs of the righteous,  30 and say, 'If we had been bi'y'mei avoteinu, we wouldn't have been partakers with them in the dam ha-n'vi'im.'  31 Therefore you testify to yourselves ki-banim attem of those who killed ha-n'vi'im.  32 Fill up, then, the measure of avoteikhem.  33 N'choshim attem, you offspring of vipers, how will you escape mi-din Gei-Hinnom?  34 Therefore, hinneh, I send to you n'vi'im v'chakhamim v'sofrim, .  Some of them will you kill and execute; and some of them will you scourge in your q'hillot, and persecute ma`ir la`ir;  35 that on you may come all the righteous blood shed ba-aretz mi-dam Hevel ha-tzaddik `ad-dam Z'kharyah ben-Berekhyah, whom you killed ben ha-heikhal v'la-mizbeach.  36 Amein, I tell you all these things will come `al-ha-dor hazeh.

23:37 "Y'rushalayim, Y'rushalayim, who kills ha-n'vi'im, and stones those who are sent to her!  How often would I have gathered your banim together, even as a hen gathers her chickens under her kanfot, and you would not!  38 Hinneh, your bayit is left to you desolate,  39 For I tell you, you will not see me from now on, until you say, 'Barukh ha-ba b'shem YHWH.'"[A]

24:1 Yeshua went out min-ha-mikdash, and was going on his way.  His talmidim came to him to show him the buildings of ha-mikdash.  2 But he answered them, "Don't you see all of these things?  Amein. I tell you, there will not be left here even `al-ven, that will not be thrown down."

24:3 As he sat `al-Har ha-Zetim, ha-talmidim came to him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things be?  What is the sign of your coming, and of qetz ha`olam?"  4 Yeshua answered vayomer to them, "Be careful that no one leads you astray.  5 For many will come in my name, saying, 'Ani hu24-5 ha-mashiach,' and will lead many astray.  6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars.  See that you aren't troubled, for all this must happen, but the end is not yet.  7 For goy `al-goy shall arise, u'mamlakhah `al-mamlakhah; and there will be famines, plagues, and earthquakes in various places.  8 But all these things are the beginning of birth pains.

24:9 Then they will deliver you up to oppression, and will kill you.  You will be hated by kol-ha-goyim for my name's sake.  10 Then many will stumble, and will deliver up one another, and will hate one another.  11 Many false n'vi'im will arise, and will lead many astray.  12 Because iniquity will be multiplied, the love of many will grow cold.  13 But he who endures `ad-`et qetz, the same will be saved [Grk sozo].  14 B'sorat ha-Malkhut hazot will be preached l`edut l'khol ha-goyim, v'achar yavo ha-qetz.

24:15 When, therefore, you see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of through Daniyyel ha-navi, standing b'maqom kadosh ha-kodesh (let the reader understand),  16 then let those who are in Y'hudah flee el-ha-harim.  17 Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take out things that are in his house.  18 Let him who is ba-sadeh not return back to take his cloak.  19 V'oy to those who are with child and to nursing mothers24-19 ba-yamim ha-hem!  20 Pray that your flight will not be in the winter, v'lo ba-Shabbat,  21 for then will be great oppression, such as has not been mereshit ha`olam until now, no, nor ever will be.  22 Unless ha-yamim hahem had been shortened, no flesh would have been saved [Grk sozo]. But for the elect's sake, ha-yamim hahem will be shortened.  23 "Then if any man tells you, 'Hinneh, here is ha-Mashiach,' or, 'There,' don't believe it.  24 For there will arise false mashichim, and false n'vi'im, and they will show otot u'moftim g'dolot, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.  25 "Hinneh, I have told you beforehand.  26 If therefore they tell you, 'Hinneh, he is ba-midbar!' don't go out; 'Hinneh, he is in the inner chambers,' don't believe it.  27 Ki kha-barak comes forth from the east, and is seen even to the west, so will be the coming of Bar Enash.24-2728 For wherever the carcass is, there will the vultures be gathered together.

24:29 But immediately after the oppression of those days, ha-shemesh will be darkened, the moon will not give her light, ha-kokhavim will fall min-ha-shamayim>, and the powers of ha-shamayim> will be shaken;  30 and then ot Bar Enash will appear ba-shamayim>. Then all the tribes of ha-aretz will mourn, and they will see Bar Enash coming on the clouds of ha-shamayim> with power and kavod rav.  31 He will send forth his malakhim b'qol shofar gadol,[A] and they will gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of ha-shamayim to the other.

24:32 "Now from the fig tree learn her mashal.  When its branch has now become tender, and puts forth its leaves, you know that the summer is near.  33 Even so you also, when you see kol eleh, know that it is near, even at ha-petach.  34 Amein.  I tell you, ha-dor hazeh will not pass away, until all these things are accomplished.  35 Ha-shamayim v'ha-aretz will pass away, but my d'varim will not pass away.

24:36 But no one knows of that day and hour, not even malakhei ha-shamayim, but Avi only.  37 "As the days of Noach, so will be the coming of Bar Enash.  38 For as in those days which were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, `ad-ha-yom that Noach entered el-ha-tevah,  39 and they didn't know until the flood came, and took them all away, so will be the coming of Bar Enash.  40 Then two will be ba-sadeh: one will be taken and one will be left;  41 two (women) grinding at the mill, one will be taken and one will be left.  42 Watch therefore, for you don't know in what hour Adoneikhem comes.  43 But know this, that if ba`al ha-bayit had known in what watch the thief was coming, he would have watched, and would not have allowed his bayit house to be broken into.  44 Therefore also be ready, for in an hour that you don't expect, Bar Enash will come.

24:45 "Mi hu then is the `eved ha-ne'eman and wise, whom his adon has set over his bayit, to give them their food in due season?  46 Blessed is that `eved whom his adon will find doing so when he comes.  47 Amein.  I tell you that he will set him over all that he has.  48 V'im ha-`eved ha-ra should say in his heart, 'Adoni is delaying his coming,'  49 and began to beat his fellow `avidim, and eat and drink with the drunken,  50 adonei ha`eved ha-hu will come in a day when he doesn't expect it, and in an hour when he doesn't know it,  51 and will cut him in pieces, and appoint his portion with the hypocrites; there is where the weeping and grinding of teeth will be.

25:1 "Then malkhut ha-shamayim will be like ten virgins, who took their nerot, and went out to meet the bridegroom.  2 Five of them were foolish, and five were chakhamot.  3 Those who were foolish, when they took their nerot, took no shemen with them,  4 but ha-chakhamot took shemen in their vessels with their nerot.  5 Now while the bridegroom delayed, they all slumbered and slept.  6 But at midnight there was a cry, 'Hinneh!  The bridegroom is coming!  Come out to meet him!'  7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their nerot.  8 The foolish said to ha-chakhamot, 'Give us some of your shemen, for our nerot are going out.'  9 But ha-chakhamot answered, saying, 'What if there will not be enough for us and you?  You go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.'  10 While they went away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and ha-dalet was shut.  11 Afterward the other virgins also came, saying, 'Adoneinu, adoneinu, open to us.'  12 But he answered, 'Amein.  I tell you, I don't know you.'  13 Watch therefore, for you don't know the day nor the hour [in which the Son of Man is coming25-13].

25:14 "For it is like a man, going into another country, who called his own `avadim, and delivered his goods to them.  15 To one he gave five kikkarim,25-15 to another two, to another one; to each according to his own ability, and he went on his journey.  16 Immediately he who received the five kikkarim went and traded with them, and made another five kikkarim.  17 In like manner he also who got the two gained another two.  18 But he who received the one went away and dug in the eretz, and hid the kesef of his adon.  19 "Now after a long time ha-adon of those `avadim came and reconciled accounts with them.  20 He who received the five kikkarim came and brought another five kikkarim, saying, 'Adoni, you delivered to me five kikkarim.  Behold, I have gained another five kikkarim besides them.'  21 "Vayomer his adon to him, 'Well done, ha-`eved ha-tov v'ha-ne'eman.  You have been faithful over a few things, I will set you over many things.  Enter el-simchat adoneikha.'  22 "He also who got the two kikkarim came vayomer, 'Adoni, you delivered to me two kikkarim.  Hinneh, I have gained another two kikkarim besides them.'  23 "Vayomer his adon to him, 'Well done, ha-`eved ha-tov v'ha-ne'eman.  You have been faithful over a few things, I will set you over many things.  Enter el-simchat adoneikha.'  24 "He also who had received the one kikkar came vayomer, 'Adoni, I knew you that you are a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you did not scatter.  25 I was afraid, and went away and hid your kikkar ba-aretz.  Hinneh, you have your own.'  26 "But his adon answered him vayomer, 'Ha`eved ha-ra and slothful.  You knew that I reap where I didn't sow, and gather where I didn't scatter.  27 You ought therefore to have deposited my kesef with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received back my own with interest.  28 Take away therefore the kikkar from him, and give it to him who has the ten kikkarim.  29 For to everyone who has will be given, and he will have abundance, but from him who has not, even that which he has will be taken away.  30 Throw out the unprofitable `eved into the outer darkness, where there will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.'

25:31 "Va'hayah yavo Bar Enash bi-kavodo v'khol ha-malakhim ha-k'doshim with him, then he will sit `al-kisse kh'vodo.  32 Before him kol-ha-goyim will be gathered, and he will separate them one from another, as a ro`eh separates the sheep from the goats.  33 He will set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.  34 Then ha-Melekh will tell those on his right hand, 'Come, blessed of my Father, inherit ha-malkhut prepared for you from the foundation of ha-`olam;  35 for I was hungry, and you gave me food to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me drink; I was a stranger, and you took me in;  36 naked, and you clothed me; I was sick, and you visited me; I was in prison, and you came to me.'  37 "Then ha-tzaddikim will answer him, saying, 'Adoneinu, when did we see you hungry, and feed you; or thirsty, and give you a drink?  38 When did we see you as a stranger, and take you in; or naked, and clothe you?  39 When did we see you sick, or in prison, and come to you?'  40 "Ha-Melekh will answer them, 'Amein.  I tell you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.'  41 Then will he say also to those on the left hand, 'Depart from me, you cursed, el-esh `olam which is prepared for ha-malshin and his mal'akhim;  42 for I was hungry, and you didn't give me food to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me no drink;  43 I was a stranger, and you didn't take me in; naked, and you didn't clothe me; sick, and in prison, and you didn't visit me.'  44 "Then they will also answer, saying, 'Adoneinu, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not help you?'  45 "Then will he answer them, saying, 'Amein.  I tell you, inasmuch as you didn't do it to one of these least, you didn't do it to me.'  46 These will go away into eternal punishment, but ha-tzaddikim l'chayyei `olam."

CHAPTER 26

26:1 Va'y'hi, when Yeshua had finished kol-ha-d'varim ha-eleh, that he said to his talmidim,  2 "You know that acharei yomim ha-Pesach is coming, and Bar Enash will be delivered up to be executed."

26:3 Then ha-Kohanim ha-g'dolim v'ha-Sofrim v'Ziqnei ha`am were gathered together in the court of ha-Kohen ha-Gadol, who was called Kayafa.  4 They took counsel together that they might take Yeshua by deceit, and kill him.  5 But they said, "Not during the feast, lest a riot occur among ha`am."

26:6 Now when Yeshua was in Beit-Anyah b'veit Shim`on ha-m'tzora,  7 an ishshah came to him having an alabaster jar of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on his head as he sat `al-ha-shulchan.  8 But when his talmidim saw it, they were indignant, saying, "Why this waste?  9 For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor."  10 But Yeshua, knowing this, said to them, "Why do you trouble ha-ishshah?  For she has done a ma`aseh tov for me.  11 For you always have the poor with you; but you don't always have me.  12 For in that she poured this ointment on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial.  13 Amein.  I tell you, wherever ha-b'sorah hazot will be preached b'khol-ha`olam, what this woman has done will also be spoken of for a memorial of her."

26:14 Then one of the twelve, who was called Y'hudah Ish-Kriyot,26-14 went el-roshei ha-Kohanim,  15 and said, "What are you willing to give me, and I will deliver him to you?"  They weighed out for him thirty (pieces of) kesef.  16 From that time he sought opportunity to betray him.

26:17 Va'y'hi va-rishon l'chag ha-Matzot, the talmidim came to Yeshua, saying to him, "Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat Pesach?"  18 Vayomer, "Go into ha`ir to a certain person, and tell him, 'Ha-Moreh says, "My time is at hand.  I will keep ha-Pesach at your bayit with my talmidim."'"  19 Ha-talmidim did as Yeshua commanded them, and they prepared pesach.26-19

26:20 Now when ha-erev had come, he was reclining at ha-shulchan with the twelve talmidim.  21 As they were eating, he said, "Amein.  I tell you that one of you will betray me."  22 They were exceedingly sorrowful, and each began to ask him, "It isn't me,26-22 is it, Adoni?"  23 He answered, "He who dipped his hand with me in the dish, the same will betray me.  24 Bar Enash goes, even as it is written of him, but oy to that man through whom Bar Enash is betrayed!  It would be better for ha-ish ha-hu if he had not been born."  25 Y'hudah, who betrayed him, answered, "It isn't me, is it, Rabbi?"  Vayomer to him, "You have said it."

26:26 As they were eating, Yeshua took a loaf, gave thanks for it,26-26 and broke it.  He gave to ha-talmidim, vayomer, "Take, eat; zeh hu gufi."  27 He took ha-kos, gave thanks, and gave to them, lemor, "(All of you) drink from it,  28 for this is my dam (of the) B'rit Chadashah, which is poured out for many for the remission of chata'im.  29 But I tell you that I will not drink of ha-gefen hazot `ad ha-yom ha-hu when I drink it chadashah b'malkhut Avi."

26:30 When they had sung a hymn, they went out el-har ha-Zetim.  31 Then Yeshua said to them, "All of you will be offended by me ba-lailah hazeh, ki katuv, 'I will strike ha-ro`eh, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered abroad.'[A]32 But after I am raised up, I will go before you into ha-Galil."  33 But Kefa answered him, "Even if all will be offended by you, I will never be offended."  34 Yeshua said to him, "Amein.  I tell you, that tonight, before the cock crows, you will deny me three times."  35 Vayomer Kefa to him, "Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you."  All of ha-talmidim also said likewise.

26:36 Then Yeshua came with them to a place called Gat-Shemanim vayomer, to his talmidim, "Sit here, while I go there and pray."  37 He took with him Kefa and the sh'nei b'nei Zavdai, and began to be sorrowful and severely troubled.  38 Vayomer to them, "My nefesh is exceedingly sorrowful, even `ad mavet.  Stay here, and watch with me."  39 He went forward a little, fell on his face, and prayed, saying, "Avi, if it is possible, let ha-kos hazot pass away from me; nevertheless, not what I desire, but what you desire."  40 He came to ha-talmidim, and found them sleeping, vayomer el Kefa, "What, couldn't you watch with me for one hour?  41 Watch and pray, that you don't enter into temptation.  Ha-ruach indeed is willing, but ha-basar is weak."  42 Again, a second time he went away, and prayed, saying, "Avi, if ha-kos hazot can't pass away from me unless I drink it, your desire be done."  43 He came again and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.  44 He left them again, went away, and prayed a third time, saying the same words.  45 Then he came to his talmidim vayomer to them, "Sleep on now, and take your rest.  Behold, the hour is at hand, and Bar Enash is betrayed into the hands of chatta'im.  46 Arise, let us be going.  Hinneh, he who betrays me is at hand."

26:47 While he was still speaking, hinneh, Y'hudah, one of the twelve, came, and with him a hamon rav with swords and clubs, from roshei ha-kohanim v'ziqnei ha`am.  48 Now he who betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, "Whoever I will kiss, that is he.  Take him."  49 Immediately he came to Yeshua, and said, "Shalom,26-49 Rabbi!"  and kissed him.  50 Vayomer Yeshua to him, "Friend, why are you here?"  Then they came and laid hands on Yeshua, and took him.  51 V'hinneh, one of those who were with Yeshua stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck `eved ha-Kohen ha-Gadol, and struck off his ear.  52 Vayomer Yeshua to him, "Put your sword back into its place, for all those who take the sword will die by the sword.  53 Or do you think that I can't ask Avi, and he would even now send me more than twelve legions of malakhim?  54 How then would ha-K'tuvim be fulfilled that it must be so?"  55 In that hour Yeshua said el-ha-hamonim, "Have you come out as against a robber with swords and clubs to seize me?  I sat daily ba-mikdash teaching, and you didn't arrest me.  56 But all this has happened, that ha-K'tuvim of ha-n'vi'im might be fulfilled."  Then all ha-talmidim left him, and fled.

26:57 Those who had taken Yeshua led him away el-Kayafa, ha-Kohen ha-Gadol, where ha-Sofrim v'ha-Z'qenim were gathered together.  58 But Kefa followed him from a distance, to the court of ha-Kohen ha-Gadol, and entered in and sat with the officers, to see the end.  59 V'ha-Kohanim ha-G'dolim v'ha-Z'qenim v'khol-ha-sod26-59 sought false `edut against Yeshua, that they might put him to death;  60 and they found none.  Even though false `edim rabbim came forward, they found none.  But at last two false `edim came forward,  61 vayomru, "This (one) said, 'I am able to destroy the hekhal ha-Elohim and to build it bi-sh'loshet yamim.'"  62 Ha-Kohen ha-Gadol stood up, and answered him, "Have you no answer?  What is this that these testify against you?"  63 But Yeshua kept silent.  Ha-Kohen ha-Gadol answered vayomer to him, "I adjure you be-Elohim chayyim, that you tell us im-attah hu ha-Mashiach, ben-ha-Elohim."  64 Vayomer Yeshua to him, "You have said it.  Nevertheless, I tell you, henceforth you will see Bar Enash sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of ha-shamayim."  65 Then ha-Kohen ha-Gadol tore his clothing,26-65 saying, "He has spoken gidduf!  Why do we need any more `edim?  Hinneh, now you have heard his gidduf.  66 What do you think?"  They answered, "He is worthy of death!"  67 Then they spit in his face and beat him with their fists, and some slapped him,  68 vayomru, "Prophesy to us, ha-Mashiach!  Who hit you?"

26:69 Now Kefa was sitting outside in the court, and a maid came to him, saying, "You were also with Yeshua ha-Galili!"  70 But he denied before them all, saying, "I don't know what you are talking about."  71 When he had gone out onto the porch, someone else saw him, and said to those who were there, "Gam zeh hayah (this one) who was with Yeshua mi-Natzeret."  72 Again he denied with an oath, "I don't know ha-ish."  73 After a little while those who stood by came vayomru el-Kefa, "Surely you are also one of them, for your speech makes you known."  74 Then he began to curse and to swear, "I don't know ha-ish!"  Immediately the cock crowed.  75 Kefa remembered ha-davar which Yeshua had said to him, "Before the cock crows, you will deny me three times."  He went out and wept bitterly.

27:1 Now when ha-boker had come, kol ha-Kohanim ha-G'dolim v'Z'knei ha-am took counsel against Yeshua to put him to death:  2 and they bound him, and led him away, and delivered him up to Pontiyos Pilatos, the governor.

27:3 Then Y'hudah, who betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, felt remorse, and brought back the thirty (pieces of) kesef el-ha-Kohanim ha-G'dolim v'Z'qenim,  4 lemor, "I have sinned in that I betrayed innocent blood."  But they said, "What is that to us?  You see to it."  5 He threw down ha-kesef el-ha-Mishkan and departed.  He went away and hanged himself.  6 Ha-Kohanim ha-G'dolim took the kesef and said, "It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, since it is the price of blood."  7 They took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in.  8 Therefore sadeh ha-hu was called "Sadeh ha-dam" ad ha-yom hazeh.  9 Then that which was spoken through Yirm'yahu ha-Navi27-9 was fulfilled, saying, "They took the thirty kesef, The price on him upon whom a price had been set, whom some of b'nei Yisra'el priced,  10 And they gave them for the potter's field, as YHWH commanded me."

27:11 Now Yeshua stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, "Ha-attah hu melekh ha-Y'hudim?"  Vayomer Yeshua to him, "(So) you say."  12 When he was accused by ha-Kohanim ha-G'dolim v'ha-Z'qenim, he answered nothing.  13 Vayomer Pilatos to him, "Don't you hear how many things they testify against you?"  14 He gave him no answer, not even davar echad so that the governor marveled greatly.

27:15 Now at the feast the governor used to release to ha-hamon one prisoner, whom they wanted.  16 They had then a notable prisoner, called Bar-Abba.  17 So when they were gathered together, Pilatos said to them, "Whom do you want me to release to you?  Bar-Abba o Yeshua, called Mashiach?"  18 For he knew that because of envy they had delivered him up.  19 While he was sitting `al-kisse ha-din, his wife sent to him, saying, "Have nothing to do ba-tzaddik hazeh, for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him."  20 Now ha-Kohanim ha-G'dolim v'ha-Z'qenim persuaded ha-hamonim that they should ask for Bar-Abba, and destroy Yeshua.  21 But the governor answered them, "Which of the two do you want me to release to you?"  Vayomru, "Bar-Abba!"  22 Vayomer Pilatos to them, "What then will I do to Yeshua, who is called Mashiach?"  They all said to him, "Let him be hung on the stake!"  23 But the governor said, "Why?  What evil has he done?"  But they cried out exceedingly, saying, "Let him be hung on the stake!"

27:24 So when Pilatos saw that nothing was gained, but rather that a disturbance was starting, he took mayim, and washed his hands before ha-hamon, saying, "I am innocent of the blood of ha-tzaddik hazeh.  You see to it."  25 All the people answered, "May his blood be on us, and on our children!"  26 26 Then he released to them Bar-Abba, but Yeshua he flogged and delivered to be executed.

27:27 Then the governor's soldiers took Yeshua into the Praetorion, and gathered to him the whole cohort.  28 They stripped him, and put a scarlet robe on him.  29 They braided a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they kneeled down before him, and mocked him, saying, "Hail,27-29 Melekh ha-Y'hudim!"  30 They spat on him, and took the reed and struck him on the head.  31 When they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his clothes on him, and led him away to execute him.

27:32 As they came out, they found a man of Kurini, Shim`on by name, and they compelled him to go with them, that he might carry his stake.  33 They came to a place called "Golgolta,"27-33 that is to say, "M'qom Gulgolet."  34 They gave him sour wine to drink mixed with gall.  When he had tasted it, he would not drink.[A]
35 When they had executed him, they divided his clothing among them, casting lots,[B]36 and they sat and watched him there.  37 They set up over his head his accusation written, "ZEH HU YESHUA, MELEKH HA-Y'HUDIM."  38 Then there were two robbers executed with him,[C] one on his right hand and one on the left.  39 Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads,  40 and saying, "You who destroy ha-Mishkan and build it in three days, save yourself!  Im Ben ha-Elohim attah, come down from the stake!"  41 Likewise ha-Kohanim ha-G'dolim also mocking, im ha-Sofrim v'ha-Z'kenim, said,  42 "He saved [Grk sozo] others, but he can't save himself.  Im melekh Yisra'el hu, let him come down from the cross now, and we will believe in him.  43 He trusts in Elohim.  Let him deliver him now,[D] if he wants him; for he said, 'Ben ha-Elohim ani.'"  44 The robbers also who were executed with him cast on him the same reproach.

27:45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over kol ha-aretz until the ninth hour.  46 About the ninth hour, Yeshua cried b'qol gadol, lemor, "`Eli, `Eli, lama sh'vaktani?"  That is, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"[E]47 Some of them who stood there, when they heard it, said, "This (one) calls Eliyahu."  48 Immediately one of them ran, and took a sponge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him a drink.[F] 49 The rest said, "Let him be.  Let's see whether Eliyahu comes to save him."27-4950 Yeshua cried again with a qol gadol, and yielded (his) ruach.

27:51 V'hinneh, parokhet ha-Mishkan was torn in two from the top to the bottom.  V'ha-aretz quaked and the rocks were split.  52 The tombs were opened, and many bodies of ha-k'doshim who had fallen asleep were raised;  53 and coming forth out of the tombs after his resurrection, they entered el-ha-ir ha-k'doshah and appeared to many.  54 Now the centurion, and those who were with him watching Yeshua, when they saw the earthquake, and the things that were done, feared exceedingly, saying, "Certainly zeh hayah ben-Elohim."

27:55 Nashim rabbim were there watching from afar, who had followed Yeshua min-ha-Galil, serving him,  56 among whom was Miryam ha-Magdalit,27-56 u'Miryam em-Ya`akov v'Yosef v'em b'nei Zavdai.

27:57 Va'y'hi va-erev, a rich man came min-Ramatayim ush'mo Yosef, who also himself was a talmid of Yeshua.  58 This (man) went to Pilatos and asked for the body of Yeshua.  Then Pilatos commanded the body to be given up.  59 Yosef took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,  60 and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock, and he rolled an even g'dolah al-petach of the tomb and departed.  61 And there Miryam ha-Magdalit u'Miryam ha-acheret were sitting opposite the tomb.

27:62 Now on the next day, which is the day after the Preparation,27-62 ha-Kohanim ha-G'dolim v'ha-P'rushim were gathered together to Pilatos;  63 saying, "Adoneinu, we remember what that deceiver said while he was still alive: 'After shloshet yamim I will rise again.'  64 Command, therefore that the tomb be made secure `ad ha-yom ha-shlishi, lest perhaps his talmidim come ba-lailah and steal him away, and say el-ha`am, 'He is risen min-ha-metim;' and the last deception will be worse than the first."  65 Vayomer Pilatos to them, "You have a guard.  Go, make it as secure as you can."  66 So they went, and made the tomb secure, sealing ha-even, the guard being with them.

28:1 Acharei ha-Shabbat, as it began to dawn l'echad ba-shabbat,28-1 Miryam ha-Magdalit u'Miryam ha-acheret came to see the tomb.  2 V'hinneh, there was a great earthquake, for malakh Adonai descended min-ha-shamayim and came and rolled away ha-even min-ha-petach and sat on it.  3 His appearance was like barak, and his clothing white as snow.  4 For fear of him, the guards shook and became as metim.  5 Ha-malakh answered ha-anashim, "Don't be afraid, for I know that you seek Yeshua, who has been killed on the stake.  6 He is not here, for he has risen, just like he said.  Come, see ha-makom where ha-Adon was lying.  7 Go quickly and tell his talmidim, 'He has risen min-ha-metim, v'hinneh, he goes before you into ha-Galil; there you will see him.'  Hinneh, I have told you."  8 They departed quickly from the tomb with fear and simcha g'dolah, and ran to bring his talmidim word.  9 As they went to tell his talmidim, hinneh, Yeshua met them, saying, "Rejoice!"28-9  They came and took hold of his feet, and bowed down to him.  10 Vayomer Yeshua to them, "Don't be afraid.  Go tell my brothers that they may go into ha-Galil, and there they will see me."

28:11 Now while they were going, hinneh, some of the guards came into the city, and told ha-Kohanim ha-G'dolim all the things that had happened.  12 When they were assembled with ha-Z'qenim, and had taken counsel, they gave kesef rav to the soldiers,  13 saying, "Say that his talmidim came by night, and stole him away while we slept.  14 If this comes to the governor's ears, we will persuade him and make you free of worry."  15 So they took ha-kesef and did as they were told.  This saying was spread abroad among ha-Y'hudim, and continues `ad ha-yom hazeh.

28:16 But the eleven talmidim went into ha-Galil, el-ha-har where Yeshua had sent them.  17 When they saw him, they bowed down to him, but some doubted.  18 Yeshua came to them and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to me ba-shamayim u'va'aretz.  19 Go, and make talmidim l'kol goyim, immersing them l'shem28-19 ha-Av v'ha-ben v'Ruach ha-Kodesh,  20 teaching them to observe all things which I commanded you.  V'hinneh, I am with you kol ha-yamim `ad-ketz ha`olam." Dr. Blizzard has also opined concerning the "wise men" that, because of them, Yeshua should not be considered to have been a poor man.  When a foreign dignitary came to visit a king, he came with significant gifts in hand, not a few trinkets as is usually pictured with the "three" wise men.  They were coming to pay homage to a new king at his birth, and their gifts would have permitted the family to travel to Egypt for the necessary time, then return to Nazareth where they would have lived comfortably, with Yosef's work as a carpenter as added income.
Expanding on this, we may expect that, through frugality and conservation, Yeshua could have financed his travels around Judea and the Galilee, as well as having purchased a house in K'far Nachum (Capernaum), "his own city" (Matt. 9:1). RETURN
2:2a:  I interject this phrase to clarify the situation because, when I was young, I alway wondered why, when they "saw his star in the east", did they travel west to find him?
2:2b:  The idea of "worship" is to "bow": Greek - (G4352) proskuneō (προσκυνέō). To do reverence to (bow down, prostrate, worship).  Hebrew: from the root (H7812) shachah (‏שָׁחָה‎).  To bow down (pay homage, prostrate, worship).  Related Hebrew thought is to bless, kneel (H1288) barakh (‏בָּרַךְ‎); from which comes "knee" (H1290) berekh.

R. ix. 9)."
      BDB: chamad - "in bad sense of inordinate, ungoverned, selfish desire, ... take pleasure in, of idolatrous tendency."
Beautiful things are to be desired.  The sin of lust is when that "ungoverned, selfish desire" is acted on and becomes an obsession and driving force. RETURN
5:29-30:  These two verses are Hyperbole.  Yeshua could be describing a sin in a person's life that should be removed so that he might be saved.RETURN
5:32:  This was regarding the terms of a legal contract.  If the bridegroom discovered, after the wedding, that his bride did not fulfill the term of the contract, he could put her away.  The term was that she was to be a virgin. RETURN
5:34:  "falsely" - the sages had determined that it was allowable to swear falsely by things other than Yahweh's name.  (Shebuoth VI).  The word "falsely" is missing from most mss, but is present in the Hebrew Matthew of Baal Shem Tov. (Nehemia Gordon: The Hebrew Yeshua vs the Greek Jesus, pg. 65).  Without the word in the verse, Yeshua would be changing Torah.  Yahweh commanded in Lev. 19:12: "And ye shall not swear by my name falsely,…"  In Deut. 6:13 and 10:20, there are commands to "swear by his name."  Further, Heb. 6:13 "For when God made a promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself," (Gen. 22:16). 26:19:  "Pesach" is not a "day".  It is the sacrifice itself made just prior to the evening which begins Chag ha-Matzot.
It was not to remain until the morning, but was to be burnt with fire (Ex. 12:10).  It can't last seven (or eight) days.
A sacrifice can be:
"killed" (2 Chron. 30:15),
"made ready" (Mark 14:16),
"sacrificed" (Deut. 16:2),
"roasted" (2 Chron. 35:13),
"eaten" (Mark 14:14).
A "day" cannot.

26:26:  Many translations say he blessed the bread or "[it]".  The bread is not "blessed."  The prayer (blessing) said at the breaking of the bread is, "Blessed are you, Yahweh our Elohim, king of the universe, who brings forth bread from the earth."  The creation does not receive the blessing; the Creator does.
