CHAPTER 1

1:1 A revelation of d'var YHWH el-Israel b'yad Malakhi.

1:2 "I have loved you" says YHWH.  Yet you say, "How have you loved us?"  "Wasn't Esav the brother of Ya'akov?" says YHWH, "Yet I loved Ya'acov;  3 but Esav I hated, and made his mountains a desolation, and gave his heritage to the jackals of midbar."  4 Whereas Edom says, "We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places;" YHWH Ts'va'ot says, "They shall build, but I will throw down; and men will call them 'The Wicked Land,' even the people against whom YHWH shows wrath ad-olam."  5 Your eyes will see, and you will say, "YHWH is great—even beyond the border of Yisrael!"

1:6 "A son honors his father, and an eved his adon.  Im-av ani, then where is my kavod?  V'im adonim ani, where is the respect due me? says YHWH Ts'va'ot to you, ha-kohanim, who despise my name.  You say, 'How have we despised your name?'  7 You offer polluted lechem on my mizbeach.  You say, 'How have we polluted you?'  In that you say, 'shulchan YHWH is contemptible.'  8 When you offer the blind for sacrifice, isn't that evil?  And when you offer the lame and sick, isn't that evil?  Present it now to your governor!  Will he be pleased with you?  Or will he accept your person?" says YHWH Ts'va'ot.  9 "Now, please entreat the favor of El, that he may be gracious to us.  With this, will he accept any of you?" says YHWH Ts'va'ot.  10 "Oh that there were one among you who would shut the doors, that you might not kindle fire on my mizbeach in vain!  I have no pleasure in you," says YHWH Ts'va'ot, "neither will I accept a minchah at your hand.  11 For from the rising of shemesh even to its going down, my name is great ba-goyim, u'va-kol maqom incense will be offered to my name, u'minchah t'horah: for my name is great ba-goyim," says YHWH Ts'va'ot.  12 "But you profane it, in that you say, 'Shulchan YHWH is polluted, and its fruit, even its food, is contemptible.'  13 You say also, 'Behold, what a weariness it is!' and you have sniffed at it", says YHWH Ts'va'ot; "and you have brought that which was taken by violence, the lame, and the sick; thus you bring ha-minchah.  Should I accept this at your hand?" says YHWH.  14 "But the deceiver is cursed, who has in his flock a male, and vows, and sacrifices l'Adonai a defective thing; ki Melekh gadol ani," says YHWH Ts'va'ot, "and my name is awesome ba-goyim."

PEREQ ‏ב‎
CHAPTER 2

2:1 "Now, you kohanim, ha-mitzvah hazot is for you.  2 If you will not listen, and if you will not take it to heart, to give kavod to my name," says YHWH Ts'va'ot, "then I will send the curse on you, and I will curse your blessings.  Indeed, I have cursed them already, because you do not take it to heart.  3 Behold, I will rebuke your zera, and will spread dung on your faces, even the dung of your chagim; and you will be taken away with it.  4 You will know that I have sent ha-mitzvah hazot to you, that my b'rit may be et-Levi," says YHWH Ts'va'ot.  5 "My b'rit was with him, ha-chayyim v'shalom; and I gave them to him that he might be reverent toward me; and he was reverent toward me, and stood in awe of my name.  6 Torat emet was in his mouth, and unrighteousness was not found in his lips.  He walked with me b'shalom and uprightness, and turned many away from iniquity.  7 For the lips of the kohen should keep knowledge, and Torah they should seek at his mouth; ki malakh YHWH Ts'va'ot hu.  8 But you have turned away min-ha-derekh.  You have caused many to stumble ba-Torah.  You have corrupted b'rit ha-Levi," says YHWH Ts'va'ot.  9 "Therefore I have also made you contemptible and wicked l'khol ha-am, according to the way you have not kept my ways, but have had respect for persons ba-Torah.

2:10 Don't we all have av echad?  Has not El echad created us?  Why do we deal treacherously every ish against his brother, profaning b'rit avoteinu?  11 Y'hudah has dealt treacherously, and an abomination is committed b'Yisrael u'v'Y'rushalaim; ki Y'hudah has profaned kodesh YHWH which he loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign el.  12 YHWH will cut off, to the man who does this, him who wakes and him who answers, me-ohalei Ya'akov, and him who offers a minchah l'YHWH Ts'va'ot.

2:13 This again you do: you cover YHWH's altar with tears, with weeping, and with sighing, because he doesn't regard ha-minchah any more, neither receives it with good will at your hand.  14 Yet you say, 'Why?'  Because YHWH has been witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have dealt treacherously, though she is your companion, and the ishshah of your b'rit.  15 Did he not make you one, although he had the residue of ha-Ruach?  Why one?  He sought zera Elohim.  Therefore take heed to your ruach, and let no one deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.  16 One who hates and divorces", says YHWH, Elohei Yisrael, "covers his garment with chamas!" says YHWH Ts'va'ot.  "Therefore pay attention to your ruach, that you don't deal treacherously.

2:17 You have wearied YHWH with your d'varim.  Yet you say, 'How have we wearied him?'  In that you say, 'Everyone who does evil is good in the sight of YHWH, and he delights in them;' or 'Where is Elohei ha-mishpat?'

CHAPTER 3

3:1 "Hinneh, I send malakhi, and he will prepare derekh before me; and ha-Adon, whom you seek, will suddenly come to his hekhal; u'mal'akh ha-b'rit, whom you desire, hinneh, he comes!" says YHWH Ts'va'ot.  2 "But who can endure the day of his coming?  And who will stand when he appears?

For he is like a refiner's fire, and like launderers' soap; 3 and he will sit as a refiner and purifier of kesef, and he will purify b'nei Levi, and refine them ka-zahav v'kha-kasef; and to YHWH they shall offer minchah bi'tz'dakah.  4 Then minchat Y'hudah v'Y'rushalaim will be pleasant to YHWH, ki-y'mei olam, and as in ancient shanim.

3:5 I will come near to you l'mishpat; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against the perjurers, and against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and who deprive the foreigner of justice, and don’t fear me," says YHWH Ts'va'ot.

3:6 "Ki ani, YHWH, do not change; therefore you, b'nei Ya'acov, are not consumed.  7 L'mi'y'mei avoteikhem you have turned away from my chukkim, and have not kept them.  Return to me, and I will return to you," says YHWH Ts'va'ot.  "But you say, 'How shall we return?'  8 Will adam rob Elohim?  Yet you rob me!  But you say, 'How have we robbed you?'  In tithes v'ha-t'rumah.  9 You are cursed with the curse; for you rob me, even this whole goy.  10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and test me now in this," says YHWH Ts'va'ot, "if I will not open you the windows of ha-shamayim, and pour you out a blessing, that there will not be room enough for.  11 I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy p'ri ha-adamah; neither shall ha-gefen ba-sadeh cast its fruit before its time," says YHWH Ts'va'ot.  12 "Kol goyim shall call you blessed, for you will be a delightful eretz," says YHWH Ts'va'ot.

3:13 "Your d'varim have been stout against me," says YHWH.  "Yet you say, 'What have we spoken against you?'  14 You have said, 'It is vain to serve Elohim;' and 'What profit is it that we have followed his instructions, and that we have walked mournfully mi-p'nei YHWH Ts'va'ot?  15 Now we call the proud happy; yes, those who work wickedness are built up; yes, they tempt Elohim, and escape.'

3:16 Then those who feared YHWH spoke one with another; and YHWH listened, and heard, and a sefer of memory was written before him, for those who feared YHWH, and who honored his name.  17 They shall be mine," says YHWH Ts'va'ot, "my own possession in the day that I make, and I will spare them, as a man spares his own son who serves him.  18 Then you shall return and discern bein tzaddik and the wicked, between him who serves Elohim and him who doesn’t serve him.

CHAPTER 4

(Chapter 3, verses 19-24 in the Jewish Bible)
4:1 "Ki hinneh, ha-yom ba; it burns as a furnace; and all the proud, and all who work wickedness, will be stubble; and ha-yom ha-ba will burn them up," says YHWH Ts'va'ot, "that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.  2 But to you who fear my name shall shemesh tz'dakah arise with healing in its kanfot.  You will go out, and leap like calves of the stall.  3 You shall tread down the wicked; for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I make," says YHWH Ts'va'ot.

4:4 "Remember Torat Mosheh avdi, which I commanded to him b'Chorev al-kol-Yisrael, chukkim u'mishpatim.

4:5 Hinneh, I will send you Eliyah ha-navi lifnei bo yom YHWH, ha-gadol v'ha-nora.  6 He will turn lev avot al-banim v'lev banim al-avotam, lest I come and strike ha-aretz with a curse."
