CHAPTER 18 18:1Ha-kohanim ha-Leviyyim - all the tribe of Levi - shall have no portion nor inheritance im-Yisra'el. Ishsheh YHWH they shall eat, and his portion.
2
They shall have no inheritance among their brothers. YHWH is their inheritance, as he has spoken to them.
3
This shall be mishpat ha-kohanim me-et ha-am, from those who offer a zevach, whether it be ox or sheep, that they shall give la-kohen: the shoulder, the two cheeks, and the inner parts.
4Reshit of your grain, of your tirosh, and of your oil, and the first of the fleece of your sheep you shall give him.
5 For YHWH Eloheikha has chosen him out of all your tribes to stand to minister b'shem YHWH, hu u'vanav, kol ha-yamim.
18:6V'khi yavo ha-L'vi me-achad of your gates mi-kol-Yisra'el where he lives, and comes with all the desire of his nefesh el-ha-maqom which YHWH shall choose,
7
then he shall minister b'shem YHWH Elohav, as all his brothers ha-L'viyyim do, who stand there lif'nei YHWH.
8
They shall have like portions to eat, in addition to that which comes from the sale of his family possessions.
18:9Ki attah ba el-ha-aretz asher YHWH Eloheikha gives you, you shall not learn to imitate the abominations of ha-goyim ha-hem.
10
There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass ba-esh, one who uses divination, one who tells fortunes, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer,
11
or a charmer, or someone who consults with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
12
For whoever does these things is an abomination to YHWH. Because of these abominations, YHWH Eloheikhem drives them out from before you.
13
You shall be blameless with YHWH Eloheikhem.
14
For these nations that you shall dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery and to diviners; but as for you, YHWH Eloheikhem has not allowed you so to do.
18:15YHWH Eloheikhem will raise up to you a prophet from among you, of your brothers, like me. You shall listen to him.
16
This is according to all that you desired of YHWH Eloheikhem b'Chorev b'yom ha-qahal, lemor, "Let me not hear again qol YHWH Elohai, and ha-esh ha-g'dolah do not let me see any more, that I not die."
17Vayomer YHWH to me, "They have well said that which they have spoken.
18
I will raise them up a navi from among their brothers, like you. I will put my d'varim into his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I shall command him.
19V'hayah, that whoever will not listen to my d'varim which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.
20
But ha-navi who speaks a davar presumptuously in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks b'shem elohim acherim, ha-navi ha-hu shall die."
21
You may say in your heart, "How shall we know ha-davar which YHWH has not spoken?"
22
When a navi speaks in the name of YHWH, if the thing doesn't follow, nor happen, that is the thing which YHWH has not spoken. Ha-navi has spoken it presumptuously. You shall not be afraid of him.

CHAPTER 19 1
When YHWH Eloheikha cuts off ha-goyim whose land YHWH Eloheikha gives you, and you succeed them and dwell in their cities and in their batim,
2
you shall set apart three cities for yourselves in the middle of your eretz, which YHWH Eloheikha gives you to possess.
3
You shall prepare ha-derekh, and divide the borders of your eretz which YHWH Eloheikha causes you to inherit into three parts, that every man slayer may flee there.
19:4
This is the case of the man slayer who shall flee there and live: Whoever kills his neighbor unintentionally, and didn't hate him in time past -
5
as when a man goes into the forest with his neighbor to chop wood and his hand swings the ax to cut down ha-etz, and the head slips from the handle and hits his neighbor so that he dies - he shall flee to one of these cities and live.
6
Otherwise, the avenger of blood might pursue the man slayer while hot anger is in his heart and overtake him, because ha-derekh is long, and strike him mortally, even though he was not worthy of death, because he didn't hate him in time past.
7
Therefore I command you to set apart three cities for yourselves.
8
If YHWH Eloheikha enlarges your border, as he has sworn la-avoteikha, and gives you kol ha-aretz which he promised to give la-avoteikha;
9
and if you keep kol-ha-mitzvah hazot to do it, which I command you today, to love YHWH Eloheikha, and to walk in his ways kol-ha-yamim, then you shall add three cities more for yourselves, in addition to these three.
10
This is so that innocent blood will not be shed in the middle of your eretz which YHWH Eloheikha gives you for an inheritance, leaving blood guilt on you.
19:11
But if any man hates his neighbor, lies in wait for him, rises up against him, strikes him mortally so that he dies, and he flees into one of these cities;
12
then z'qenim of his city shall send and bring him there, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.
13
Your eye shall not pity him, but you shall purge the innocent blood from Yisra'el that it may go well with you.
19:14
You shall not remove your neighbor's landmark, which they of old time have set, in your inheritance which you shall inherit, ba-aretz which YHWH Eloheikha gives you to possess.
19:15Ed echad shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any chet that he sins. Al-pi sh'nei edim, o al-pi sh'loshah edim, shall a matter be established.
16
If an ed chamas rises up against any man to testify against him of wrongdoing,
17
then sh'nei ha-anashim, between whom the controversy is, shall stand lif'nei YHWH, lif'nei ha-kohanim v'ha-shoftim who shall be ba-yamim ha-hem;
18v'ha-shoftim shall make diligent inquisition; v'hinneh, if ha-ed is a false witness, and has testified falsely against his brother,
19
then you shall do to him as he had thought to do to his brother. So you shall remove the evil from among you.
20
Those who remain shall hear, and fear, and will never again commit any such evil among you.
21
Your eyes shall not pity: life for life, `ayin b`ayin, tooth for tooth, yad b'yad, foot for foot.

CHAPTER 20 20:1
When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses, chariots, and a people more numerous than you, you shall not be afraid of them; for YHWH Eloheikha is with you, who brought you up me-eretz Mitzrayim.
2
It shall be, when you draw near to the battle, that ha-kohen shall approach and speak el-ha-`am,
3
and shall tell them, "Sh'ma, Yisra'el, you draw near today to battle against your enemies. Don't let your heart faint! Don't be afraid, nor tremble, neither be scared of them;
4
for YHWH Eloheikhem is he who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you."
5
The officers shall speak to the people, saying, "What man is there who has built a bayit chadash, and has not dedicated it? Let him go and return to his bayit, lest he die in the battle, v'ish acher dedicate it.
6
What man is there who has planted a kerem, and has not used its fruit? Let him go and return to his bayit, lest he die in the battle, and ish acher use its fruit.
7
What man is there who has betrothed an ishshah, and has not taken her? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and ish acher take her."
8
The officers shall speak further el-ha-`am, and they shall say, "What man is there who is fearful and faint-hearted? Let him go and return to his bayit, lest his brother's heart melt as his heart."
9
It shall be, when the officers have finished speaking el-ha-`am, that they shall appoint captains of armies b'rosh ha-`am.
20:10 When you draw near to a city to fight against it, then proclaim shalom to it.
11
It shall be, if it gives you answer of shalom and opens to you, then it shall be that kol ha-`am who are found therein shall become forced laborers to you, and shall serve you.
12
If it will make no shalom with you, but will make war against you, then you shall besiege it.
13
When YHWH Eloheikha delivers it into your hand, you shall strike every male of it with the edge of the sword;
14
but ha-nashim, the little ones, v'ha-b'hemah, and all that is ba-ir, even all its plunder, you shall take for plunder for yourself. You may use the plunder of your enemies, which YHWH Eloheikha has given you.
15
Thus you shall do to all the cities which are very far off from you, which are not of the cities of ha-goyim ha-eleh.
16
But of the cities of ha-amim ha-eleh asher YHWH Eloheikha gives you for an inheritance, you shall save alive nothing that breathes;
17
but you shall utterly destroy them: ha-Chitti, ha-Emori, ha-K'na`ani, ha-P'rizzi, ha-Chivvi, v'ha-Y'vusi, as YHWH Eloheikha has commanded you;
18
that they not teach you to follow all their abominations, which they have done for their elohim; so would you sin against YHWH Eloheikhem.
20:19
When you shall besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, you shall not destroy its trees by wielding an ax against them; for you may eat of them. You shall not cut them down, ki adam etz ha-sadeh, that it should be besieged by you?
20
Only the trees that you know are not trees for food, you shall destroy and cut them down. You shall build bulwarks against ha-ir that makes war with you, until it falls.

CHAPTER 21 21:1
If someone is found slain ba-adamah which YHWH Eloheikha gives you to possess, lying ba-sadeh, and it isn't known who has struck him,
2
then your z'qenim and your shoftim shall come out, and they shall measure to the cities which are around him who is slain.
3
It shall be that the ziqnei ha-ir which is nearest to the slain man shall take a heifer of the herd, which hasn't been worked with and which has not drawn in the yoke.
4Ziqnei ha-ir shall bring the heifer down to a valley with running water, which is neither plowed nor sown, and shall break the heifer's neck there ba-nachal.
5Ha-kohanim b'nei Levi shall come near, for YHWH Eloheikha has chosen them to minister to him, and to bless b'shem YHWH; and according to their word shall every controversy and every assault be decided.
6V'khol ziqnei ha-ir ha-hi which is nearest to the slain man shall wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken ba-nachal.
7
They shall answer and say, "Our hands have not shed ha-dam hazeh, neither have our eyes seen it.
8
Forgive your people Yisra'el, whom you have redeemed, YHWH, and don't allow innocent blood among your people Yisra'el." Ha-dam shall be forgiven them.
9
So you shall put away the innocent blood from among you, when you shall do that which is right in the eyes of YHWH.
(49) PARASHAT KI-TETZEI
When you go out
21:10 - 25:19
21:10
When you go out to battle against your enemies, and YHWH Eloheikha delivers them into your hands and you carry them away captive,
11
and see among the captives a beautiful woman, and you are attracted to her, and desire to take her l'ishshah,
12
then you shall bring her home to your bayit. She shall shave her head and trim her nails.
13
She shall take off the clothing of her captivity, and shall remain in your bayit, and bewail her father and her mother a full month. After that you shall go in to her and be her ba`al, and she shall be to you l'ishshah.
14
It shall be, if you have no delight in her, then you shall let her go where she desires; but you shall not sell her at all ba-kesef. You shall not deal with her as a slave, because you have humbled her.
21:15
If a man has sh'tei nashim, the one beloved and the other hated,[♦] and they have borne him banim, both the beloved and the hated, and if the firstborn son is hers who was hated,
16
then it shall be, in the day that he causes his banim to inherit that which he has, that he may not give the son of the beloved the rights of the firstborn before the son of the hated, who is the firstborn;
17
but he shall acknowledge the firstborn, the son of the hated, by giving him a double portion of all that he has; for he is the beginning of his strength. The right of the firstborn is his.
21:18
If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not hearken b'qol aviv u'v'qol imo, and though they chasten him, will not listen to them,
19
then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the z'qenim of his city and to the gate of his place.
20
They shall tell the z'qenim of his city, "This our son is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey our voice. He is a glutton and a drunkard."
21
All the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones. So you shall remove the evil from among you. V'kol Yisra'el shall hear, and fear.
21:22
If a man has committed a sin worthy of death, and he is put to death, and you hang him al-etz,
23
his body shall not remain all night al-ha-etz, but you shall surely bury him ha-yom ha-hu; for he who is hanged is accursed of Elohim. Don't defile your adamah which YHWH Eloheikha gives you for an inheritance.

CHAPTER 22 22:1
You shall not see your brother's ox or his sheep go astray and hide yourself from them. You shall surely bring them again to your brother.
2
If your brother isn't near to you, or if you don't know him, then you shall bring it home to your bayit, and it shall be with you until your brother comes looking for it, and you shall restore it to him.
3
So you shall do with his chamor. So you shall do with his garment. So you shall do with every lost thing of your brother's, which he has lost and you have found. You may not hide yourself.
4
You shall not see your brother's chamor or his ox fallen down by the way, and hide yourself from them. You shall surely help him to lift them up again.
22:5
An ishshah shall not wear the clothing of a man, neither shall a man put on the clothing of an ishshah; for whoever does these things is an abomination to YHWH Eloheikha.
22:6
If you come across a bird's nest ba-derekh b'khol etz o al-ha-aretz, with young ones or eggs, and the hen sitting on the young, or on the eggs, you shall not take the hen with the young.
7
You shall surely let the hen go, but the young you may take for yourself, that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days.
22:8
When you build a bayit chadash, then you shall make a railing around your roof, so that you don't bring blood on your bayit if anyone falls from there.
22:9
You shall not sow your kerem with two kinds of zera, lest all the fruit be defiled, the seed which you have sown, and the increase of ha-kerem.
10
You shall not plow with an ox and a chamor together.
11
You shall not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together.
22:12
You shall make yourselves fringes on the four corners of your cloak with which you cover yourself.
22:13
If any ish takes an ishshah, and goes in to her, hates her,
14
accuses her of shameful things, gives her a shem ra, and says, "I took ha-ishshah hazot, and when I came near to her, I didn't find in her the tokens of virginity;"[♦]15
then the young lady's father and mother shall take and bring the tokens of the young lady's virginity el-ziqnei ha-ir in the gate.
16
The young lady's father shall tell ha-z'qenim, "I gave my daughter la-ish hazeh l'ishshah, and he hates her.
17
Behold, he has accused her of shameful things, saying, 'I didn't find in your daughter the tokens of virginity;' and yet these are the tokens of my daughter's virginity." They shall spread the cloth before the elders of the city.
18Ziqnei ha-ir ha-hi shall take ha-ish and chastise him.
19
They shall fine him one hundred (shekels of) kesef, and give them to the father of the young lady, because he has given a bad name to a virgin of Yisra'el. She shall be his ishshah. He may not put her away kol yamim.
20
But if this thing is true, that the tokens of virginity were not found in the young lady,
21
then they shall bring out the young lady el-petach aviha, and the anshei ha-irah shall stone her to death with stones, because she has done folly b'Yisra'el, to play the prostitute in beit aviha. So you shall remove the evil from among you.
22:22
If a man is found lying with a woman married to a husband, then they shall both die, the man who lay im-ha-ishshah v'ha-ishshah. So you shall remove ha-ra mi-Yisra'el.
22:23
If there is a young lady who is a virgin betrothed to a husband, and a man finds her in the city, and lies with her,
24
then you shall bring them both out to the gate of that city, and you shall stone them to death with stones; the lady, because she didn't cry, being in the city; and the man, because he has humbled his neighbor's wife. So you shall remove the evil from among you.
22:25
But if the man finds the lady who is betrothed ba-sadeh, and the man forces her and lies with her, then only the man who lay with her shall die;
26
but to the lady you shall do nothing. There is in the lady no sin worthy of death; for as when a man rises against his neighbor and kills him, even so is this matter;
27
for he found her ba-sadeh, the betrothed lady cried, and there was no one to save her.
28
If a man finds a lady who is a virgin, who is not betrothed, grabs her and lies with her, and they are found,
29
then the man who lay with her shall give to the lady's father fifty (shekels of) kesef. She shall be his wife, because he has humbled her. He may not put her away all his days.
22:30 (23:1 in Heb. Bible)
A man shall not take his father's wife, and shall not uncover his father's skirt.

CHAPTER 23 23:1 (2)
He who is emasculated by crushing or cutting shall not enter bi-q'hal YHWH.
23:2 (3)
A person born of a forbidden union shall not enter bi-q'hal YHWH; even to the tenth generation shall no one of his enter bi-q'hal YHWH.
23:3 (4)`Ammoni u'Mo'avi shall not enter bi-q'hal YHWH; even to the tenth generation shall no one belonging to them enter bi-q'hal YHWH `ad-olam,
4 (5)
because they didn't meet you ba-lechem u'va-mayim ba-derekh when you came mi-Mitzrayim, and because they hired against you Bil`am ben-B`or mi-P'tor Aram Naharayim, to curse you.
5 (6)
Nevertheless YHWH Eloheikha wouldn't listen to Bil`am, but YHWH Eloheikha turned the curse into a blessing to you, because YHWH Eloheikha loved you.
6 (7)
You shall not seek their shalom nor their prosperity all your days l'olam.
23:7(8)
You shall not abhor an Adomi, for he is your brother. You shall not abhor a Mitzri, because you lived as a foreigner in his eretz.
8 (9)Banim of the third generation who are born to them may enter bi-q'hal YHWH.
23:9 (10)
When you go out and camp against your enemies, then you shall keep yourselves mi-kol d'var ra.
23:10 (11)
If there is among you any man who is not tahor by reason of that which happens to him by lailah, then shall he go outside of the camp. He shall not come within the camp;
11 (12)
but it shall be, when erev comes, he shall bathe himself ba-mayim. When ha-shemesh is down, he shall come within the camp.
23:12 (13) You shall have a place also outside of the camp where you go out to it (to relieve yourself).
23:13 (14)
You shall have a stake among your weapons. It shall be, when you sit down [relieve yourself], you shall dig with it, and shall turn back and cover your excrement;
14 (15)
for YHWH Eloheikha walks in the middle of your camp, to deliver you, and to give up your enemies before you. Therefore your camp shall be kadosh, that he may not see an unclean thing in you, and turn away from you.
15 (16)
You shall not deliver an eved to his adon who has escaped from his adon to you.
16 (17)
He shall dwell with you, among you, in the place which he shall choose within one of your gates, where it pleases him best. You shall not oppress him.
23:17 (18)
There shall be no k'deshah [cult prostitute] mi-b'not Yisra'el, neither shall there be a kadesh mi-b'nei Yisra'el.
18 (19)
You shall not bring the hire of a prostitute, or the wages of a dog,[♦] into the house of YHWH Eloheikha l'khol neder; for both of these are an abomination to YHWH Eloheikha.
23:19 (20)
You shall not lend on interest to your brother: interest of kesef, interest of food, interest of anything that is lent on interest.
20 (21)
You may charge a foreigner interest; but you shall not charge your brother interest, that YHWH Eloheikha may bless you in all that you put your hand to, al-ha-aretz where you go in to possess it.
23:21 (22)
When you vow a neder la-YHWH Eloheikha, you shall not be slack to pay it, for YHWH Eloheikha will surely require it of you; and it would be chet in you.
22 (23)
But if you refrain from making a neder, it shall be no chet in you.
23 (24)
You shall observe and do that which has gone out of your lips. Whatever you have vowed to YHWH Eloheikham as a free will offering, which you have promised with your mouth, you must do.
23:24 (25)
When you come into the kerem of your neighbor, then you may eat your fill of grapes at your own pleasure; but you shall not put any in your container.
25 (26)
When you come into your neighbor's standing grain, then you may pluck the ears with your hand; but you shall not use a sickle on your neighbor's standing grain.

CHAPTER 24 24:1
When an ish takes an ishshah and marries her, then it shall be, if she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some unseemly thing in her, that he shall write her a certificate of divorce, put it in her hand, and send her out of his bayit.
2
When she has departed out of his bayit, she may go and be (wife) to ish acher.
3
If the latter husband is hateful to her, and writes her a certificate of divorce, puts it in her hand, and sends her out of his house; or if the latter husband dies, who took her to be his wife;
4
her former husband, who sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife after she is defiled; for that would be an abomination to YHWH. You shall not cause ha-aretz to sin, which YHWH Eloheikha gives you for an inheritance.
24:5
When an ish takes an ishshah chadashah, he shall not go out in the army, neither shall he be assigned any business. He shall be free at home shanah echat, and shall cheer his ishshah whom he has taken.
24:6
No man shall take the mill or the upper millstone as a pledge, for he takes a nefesh in pledge.
24:7
If a man is found stealing a nefesh of his brothers of b'nei Yisra'el, and he deals with him as a slave, or sells him, then that thief shall die. So you shall remove the evil from among you.
24:8
Be careful in the plague of ha-tsara`at, that you observe diligently and do according to all that ha-kohanim ha-L'viyyim teach you. As I commanded them, so you shall observe to do.
9
Remember what YHWH Eloheikha did l'Miryam ba-derekh, as you came mi-Mitzrayim.
24:10
When you lend your neighbor any kind of loan, you shall not go into his bayit to get his pledge.
11
You shall stand outside, and ha-ish to whom you lend shall bring the pledge outside to you.
12
If he is a poor man, you shall not sleep with his pledge.
13
You shall surely restore to him the pledge when ha-shemesh goes down, that he may sleep in his garment and bless you. It shall be tz'dakah to you before YHWH Eloheikha.
24:14
You shall not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your brothers or one of the foreigners who are in your eretz within your gates.
15
In his day you shall give him his wages, neither shall ha-shemesh go down on it; for he is poor and sets his heart on it; lest he cry against you to YHWH, and it be chet to you.
24:16Ha-avot shall not be put to death al-banim, u'vanim shall not be put to death al-avot. Every man shall be put to death for his own chet. 24:17
You shall not pervert mishpat due to the foreigner or the fatherless, nor take a widow's clothing in pledge;
18
but you shall remember that you were an eved b'Mitzrayim, and YHWH Eloheikha redeemed you there. Therefore I command you to do this thing.
24:19
When you reap your harvest in your sadeh, and have forgotten a sheaf ba-sadeh, you shall not go again to get it. It shall be for the foreigner, for the fatherless, and for the widow, that YHWH Eloheikha may bless you in all the work of your hands.
20
When you beat your zayit, you shall not go over the boughs again. It shall be for the foreigner, for the fatherless, and la-almanah.
24:21
When you harvest your vineyard, you shall not glean it after yourselves. It shall be for the foreigner, for the fatherless, and la-almanah.

CHAPTER 25 25:1
If there is a controversy bein anashim, and they come el-ha-mishpat and the judges judge them, then they shall justify ha-tzaddik and condemn the wicked.
2
It shall be, if the wicked man is worthy to be beaten, that ha-shofet shall cause him to lie down and to be beaten before his face, according to his wickedness, by number.
3
He may sentence him to no more than forty stripes. He shall not give more, lest if he should give more and beat him more than that many stripes, then your brother will be degraded in your sight.
25:4
You shall not muzzle the ox when he treads out the grain.
25:5
If brothers dwell together, and one of them dies and has no son, the ishshah of the dead shall not be married outside to a stranger. Her husband's brother shall go in to her, and take her as his ishshah, and perform the duty of a husband's brother to her.
6
It shall be that the firstborn whom she bears shall succeed in the name of his brother who is dead, that his name not be blotted out of Yisra'el.
7
If the man doesn't want to take his brother's ishshah, then his brother's ishshah shall go up to the gate to the elders, and say, "My husband's brother refuses to raise up to his brother a name b'Yisra'el. He will not perform the duty of a husband's brother to me."
8
Then the z'qenim of his city shall call him, and speak to him. If he stands and says, "I don't want to take her,"
9
then his brother's ishshah shall come to him in the presence of ha-z'qenim, and loose his sandal from off his foot, and spit in his face. She shall answer and say, "So shall it be done la-ish who does not build up his brother's house."
10
His name shall be called b'Yisra'el, "The house of him who had his sandal removed" [Beit chalutz ha-na`al].
25:11
When anashim strive against each other, and eshet ha-echad draws near to deliver ishah out of the hand of him who strikes him, and puts out her hand, and grabs him by that which excites shame [the male genitals],
12
then you shall cut off her hand. Your eye shall have no pity.
25:13
You shall not have in your bag diverse weights, one heavy and one light.
14
You shall not have in your house diverse measures, one large and one small.
15
You shall have a perfect and just weight. You shall have a perfect and just measure, that your days may be long in the land which YHWH Eloheikha gives you.
16
For all who do such things, all who do unrighteously, are an abomination to YHWH Eloheikha.
25:17
Remember what `Amalek did to you ba-derekh as you came mi-Mitzrayim;
18
how he met you ba-derekh, and struck the rearmost of you, all who were feeble behind you, when you were faint and weary; and he didn't fear Elohim.
19
Therefore it shall be, when YHWH Eloheikha has given you rest from all your enemies all around, ba-aretz which YHWH Eloheikha gives you for an inheritance to possess it, that you shall blot out the memory of `Amalek from under ha-shamayim. You shall not forget.

CHAPTER 26 26:1
It shall be, when you have come el-ha-aretz asher YHWH Elohekha gives you for an inheritance, possess it, and dwell in it,

that you shall take me-reshit kol-p'ri ha-adamah, which you shall bring in from your eretz that YHWH Eloheikha gives you. You shall put it in a basket, and shall go el-ha-maqom which YHWH Eloheikha shall choose to cause his name to dwell there.
3
You shall come el-ha-kohen who shall be ba-yamim ha-hem, and tell him, "I profess ha-yom la-YHWH Eloheikha, that I have come el-ha-aretz which YHWH swore la-avoteinu to give us."
4Ha-kohen shall take the basket out of your hand, and set it down before the altar of YHWH Eloheikha.
26:5
You shall answer and say lif'nei YHWH Eloheikha, "My father was an Arami ready to perish. He went down into Mitzrayim, and lived there, few in number. There he became a goy gadol, mighty, and populous.
6Ha-Mitzrim mistreated us, afflicted us, and imposed hard labor on us.
7
Then we cried el-YHWH Elohei avoteinu. YHWH heard our voice, and saw our affliction, our toil, and our oppression.
8YHWH brought us mi-Mitzrayim b'yad chazakah, with an outstretched arm, with great terror, u'v'otot u'v'moftim;

and he has brought us el-ha-maqom hazeh, and has given us ha-aretz hazot, eretz flowing with milk and honey.
10
Now, hinneh, I have brought reshit p'ri ha-adamah, which you, YHWH, have given me." You shall set it down lif'nei YHWH Eloheikha, and worship lif'nei YHWH Eloheikha.
11
You shall rejoice b'khol ha-tov which YHWH Eloheikha has given to you, and to your bayit: attah, v'ha-L'vi, v'ha-ger who is among you.
26:12
When you have finished tithing kol ha-ma`aser of your increase ba-shanah ha-sh'lishit, sh'nat ha-ma`aser, then you shall give it la-Levi, la-ger, to the fatherless, v'la-almanah, that they may eat within your gates and be filled.

You shall say lif'nei YHWH Eloheikha, "I have put away ha-kodesh min-ha-Bayit, and also have given them la-Levi, v'la-ger, to the fatherless, v'la-almanah, according to all your mitzvah which you have commanded me. I have not transgressed any of your mitzvot, neither have I forgotten them.
14
I have not eaten of it in my mourning, neither have I removed any of it while I was tameh, nor given of it la-met. I have listened b'qol YHWH Elohai. I have done according to all that you have commanded me.
15
Look down from your holy habitation, min-ha-shamayim, and bless your people Yisra'el, and ha-adamah which you have given us, as you swore to avoteinu, eretz flowing with milk and honey."
26:16Ya-yom hazeh, YHWH Eloheikha commands you to do ha-chukkim ha-eleh v'et ha-mishpatim. You shall therefore keep and do them with all your heart and with all your nefesh.
17
You have declared today that YHWH is your Elohm, and that you would walk in his derekh, keep his chukkim, his mitzvot, and his mishpatim, and listen to his voice.
18YHWH has declared today that you are a people for his own possession, as he has promised you, and that you should keep all his mitzvot.

CHAPTER 28 28:1
It shall happen, if you shall listen diligently to the voice of YHWH Eloheikha, to observe to do all his mitzvot which I command you today, that YHWH Eloheikhem will set you high above kol-goyei ha-aretz.
2
All these blessings will come upon you, and overtake you, if you listen b'qol YHWH Eloheikha.
3Baruch attah ba-ir, u'varuch attah ba-sadeh.
4
You shall be blessed in the fruit of your body, the fruit of your adamah, the fruit of your b'hemot, the increase of your livestock, and the young of your flock.
5
Your basket and your kneading trough shall be blessed.
6
You shall be blessed when you come in, and you shall be blessed when you go out.
28:7YHWH will cause your enemies who rise up against you to be struck before you. Ba-derekh echad they will come out against you, u'v'shev`a d'rakhim they will flee before you.
8YHWH will command the blessing on you in your barns, and in all that you put your hand to. He will bless you ba-aretz which YHWH Eloheikha gives you.
9YHWH will establish you l`am kadosh to himself, as he has sworn to you, if you shall keep mitzvot YHWH Eloheikha, and walk in his d'rakhim.
10Kol -`amei ha-aretz shall see that you are called by the name of YHWH, and they will fear you.
11YHWH will grant you abundant prosperity in the fruit of your body, in the fruit of your b'hemot, and in the fruit of your adamah, al-ha-adamah which YHWH swore la-avoteikha to give you.
12YHWH will open to you his good treasure in ha-shamayim, to give the rain of your eretz in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You will lend to goyim rabbim, and you will not borrow.
13YHWH will make you the head, and not the tail. You will be above only, and you will not be beneath, if you listen el-mitzvot YHWH Eloheikha which I command you today, to observe and to do,
14
and shall not turn away mi-kol ha-d'varim which I command you today, to the right hand or to the left, to go after elohim acherim to serve them.
28:15
But it shall come to pass, if you will not listen b'qol YHWH Eloheikha, to observe to do all his mitzvot and his chukkim which I command you ha-yom, that all these curses will come on you and overtake you.
16
You will be cursed ba-ir, and you will be cursed ba-sadeh.
17
Your basket and your kneading trough will be cursed.
18
The fruit of your body, the fruit of your adamah, the increase of your livestock, and the young of your flock will be cursed.
19
You will be cursed when you come in, and you will be cursed when you go out.
28:20YHWH will send on you cursing, confusion, and rebuke in all that you put your hand to do, until you are destroyed and until you perish quickly, because of the evil of your doings, by which you have forsaken me.
21YHWH will make the pestilence cling to you, until he has consumed you me-al ha-adamah where you go in to possess it.
22YHWH will strike you with consumption, with fever, with inflammation, with fiery heat, with the sword, with blight, and with mildew. They will pursue you until you perish.
23
Your sky that is over your head will be n'choshet, v'ha-aretz that is under you will be iron.
24YHWH will make the rain of your land powder and dust. It will come down on you min-ha-shamayim, until you are destroyed.
28:25YHWH will cause you to be struck before your enemies. B'derekh echad you will go out against them, u'v'shiv`ah d'rakhim you will flee before them. You will be tossed back and forth l'khol mam'l'chot ha-aretz.
26
Your dead bodies will be food to all birds of ha-shamayim, u'l'vehemot ha-aretz ; and there will be no one to frighten them away.
27YHWH will strike you with the boils of Mitzrayim, with the tumors, with the scurvy, and with the itch, of which you can not be healed.
28YHWH will strike you with madness, with blindness, and with astonishment of heart.
29
You will grope at noonday, as the blind gropes in darkness, and you shall not prosper in your ways. You will only be oppressed and robbed always, v'ein moshi`a.
30
You will betroth an ishshah, and ish acher shall lie with her. You will build a bayit, and you won't dwell in it. You will plant a kerem, and not use its fruit.
31
Your ox will be slain before your eyes, and you will not eat any of it. Your chamor will be violently taken away from before your face, and will not be restored to you. Your sheep will be given to your enemies, and there will be to you ein moshi`a.
32
Your banim and your banot will be given l`am acher. Your eyes will look, and fail with longing for them kol-ha-yom. There will be no power in your hand.
33
The fruit of your adamah and all of your work a goy which you don't know shall eat. You will only be oppressed and crushed always,
34
so that the sights that you see with your eyes will drive you m'shuggah.
35YHWH will strike you in the knees and in the legs with a sore boil, of which you cannot be healed, from the sole of your foot to the crown of your head.
28:36YHWH will bring you, and your melekh whom you will set over yourselves, to a goy that you have not known, you nor your avot. There you will serve elohim acherim of wood and stone.
37
You will become an astonishment, a mashal, and a byword b'khol ha`amim where YHWH will lead you away.
38Zera rav you will carry out into ha-sadeh, and will gather little in, for the locust will consume it.
39
You will plant vineyards and dress them, but you will neither drink of ha-yayin, nor harvest, because worms will eat them.
40Zetim you will have throughout all your borders, but you won't anoint yourself with ha-shemen, for your zetim will drop off.
41Banim u'vanot you shall beget, but they will not be yours, for they will go into captivity.
42Kol etzim and the fruit of your adamah shall the locust possess.
43Ha-ger who is among you will mount up above you higher and higher, and you will come down lower and lower.
44
He will lend to you, and you won't lend to him. He will be the head, and you will be the tail.
45
All these curses will come on you, and will pursue you and overtake you, until you are destroyed, because you didn't listen to qol YHWH Eloheikha, to keep his mitzvot and his chukkim which he commanded you.
46
They will be l'ot u'l'mofet to you and to your zera ad-olam.
28:47
Because you didn't serve YHWH Eloheikha with joyfulness and with gladness of heart, by reason of the abundance of all things;
48
therefore you will serve your enemies whom YHWH sends against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in lack of all things. He will put an iron yoke on your neck until he has destroyed you.
49YHWH will bring a goy against you from far, from the end of ha-aretz, as the eagle flies: a goy whose language you will not understand,
50
a goy of fierce facial expressions, that doesn't respect the zaqen, nor show favor to the young.
51
They will eat the fruit of your b'hemot and the fruit of your adamah, until you are destroyed. They also won't leave you grain, tirosh, oil, the increase of your livestock, or the young of your flock, until they have caused you to perish.
52
They will besiege you in all your gates until your high and fortified walls in which you trusted come down throughout all your eretz. They will besiege you in all your gates throughout all your eretz which YHWH Eloheikha has given you.
53
You will eat the fruit of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters, whom YHWH Eloheikha has given you, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemies will distress you.
54
The man who is tender among you, and very delicate, his eye will be evil toward his brother, toward the wife whom he loves, and toward the remnant of his children whom he has remaining,
55
so that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his children whom he will eat, because he has nothing left to him, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy will distress you in all your gates.
56
The tender and delicate woman among you, who would not venture to set the sole of her foot al-ha-aretz for delicateness and tenderness, her eye will be evil toward the husband that she loves, toward her son, toward her daughter,
57
toward her young one who comes out from between her feet, and toward her children whom she bears; for she will eat them secretly for lack of all things in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy will distress you in your gates.
28:58
If you will not observe to do kol divrei ha-Torah hazot ha-k'tuvim ba-sefer hazot, that you may fear this glorious and fearful name, YHWH Eloheikha,
59
then YHWH will make your plagues and the plagues of your zera fearful, even great plagues, and of long duration, and severe sicknesses, and of long duration.
60
He will bring on you again all the diseases of Mitzrayim, which you were afraid of; and they will cling to you.
61
Also every sickness and every plague asher lo katuv b'sefer ha-Torah hazot, YHWH will bring them on you until you are destroyed.
62
You will be left few in number, even though you were as kokh'vei ha-shamayim for multitude, because you didn't listen b'qol YHWH Eloheikha.
63
It will happen that as YHWH rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you, so YHWH will rejoice over you to cause you to perish and to destroy you. You will be plucked me-al ha-adamah that you are going in to possess.
64YHWH will scatter you b'khol ha-amim, from the end of ha-aretz to the end of ha-aretz. There you will serve elohim acherim which you have not known, attah v'avoteikha, even wood and stone.
65
Among ha-goyim ha-hem you will find no ease, and there will be no rest for the sole of your foot; but YHWH will give you there a trembling heart, failing of eyes, and pining of nefesh.
66
Your life will hang in doubt before you. You will be afraid lailah v'yomam, and will have no assurance of your life.
67Ba-boqer you will say, "I wish it were erev!" u'va-erev you will say, "I wish it were boqer!" for the fear of your heart which you will fear, and for the sights which your eyes will see.
68YHWH will bring you into Mitzrayim again with ships, ba-derekh of which I told to you that you would never see it again. There you will offer yourselves to your enemies for male and female slaves, and nobody will buy you.

CHAPTER 29 29:1 (28:69 in Heb.)Eleh divrei ha-b'rit which YHWH commanded Mosheh to make with b'nei Yisra'el b'eretz Mo'av, in addition to ha-b'rit asher karat with them b'Chorev.
29:2 (29:1 in Heb.)Mosheh called el-kol-Yisra'el vayomer, to them: Your eyes have seen all that YHWH did b'eretz Mitzrayim l'Paroh, and to all his avadim, and to all his eretz;
3 (2)
the great trials which your eyes saw, ha-otot v'ha-moftim ha-g'dolim.
4 (3)
But YHWH has not given you a heart to know, eyes to see, and ears to hear, ad ha-yom hazeh.
5 (4)
I have led you forty years ba-midbar. Your clothes have not grown old on you, and your sandals have not grown old on your feet.
6 (5)
You have not eaten lechem, neither have you drunk yayin or strong drink, that you may know that I am YHWH Eloheikhem.
7 (6)
When you came el-ha-maqom hazeh, Sichon melekh Cheshbon v'Og melekh Bashan came out against us to battle, and we struck them.
8 (7)
We took their eretz, and gave it for an inheritance la-R'uveni v'la-Gadi and to the half-tribe of ha-M'nasshi.
9 (8)
Therefore keep div'rei ha-b'rit hazot and do them, that you may prosper in all that you do.
(51) PARASHAT NITZAVIM
You are standing
29:10 - 30:20
29:10 (9)
All of you stand today lif'nei YHWH Eloheikhem: your heads, your tribes, your z'qenim, and your officers, kol ish Yisra'el,
11 (10)
your little ones, your wives, and the foreigners who are in the middle of your camps, from the one who cuts your wood to the one who draws your water,
12 (11)
that you may enter into b'rit YHWH Eloheikha, and into his oath, which YHWH Eloheikha cuts with you ha-yom,
13 (12)
that he may establish you today as his people, and that he may be l'Elohim, as he spoke to you and as he swore to your fathers, l'Avraham u'l'Yitzkhak u'l'Ya`akov.
14 (13)
Neither do I make ha-b'rit hazot and this oath with you only,
15 (14)
but with those who stand here with us today lif'nei YHWH Eloheinu, and also with those who are not here with us today,
29:16 (15)
(for you know how we lived b'eretz Mitzrayim, and how we came through the middle of ha-goyim through which you passed;
17 (16)
and you have seen their abominations and their idols of etz va'even, kesef v'zahav, which were among them);
18 (17)
lest there should be among you ish o-ishshah o mishpachah, or tribe whose heart turns away ha-yom me-im YHWH Eloheinu, to go to serve elohei ha-goyim ha-hem; lest there should be among you a root that produces bitter poison;
19 (18)
and it happen, when he hears ha-divrei of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, "I shall have shalom, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart," to destroy the moist with the dry.
20 (19)YHWH will not pardon him, but then the anger of YHWH and his jealousy will smoke against that man, and all the curse k'tuvah ba-sefer hazeh will fall on him, and YHWH will blot out his name mi-tachat ha-shamayim.
21 (20)YHWH will set him apart for evil out of all the tribes of Yisra'el, according to all the curses of ha-b'rit ha-k'tuvah b'sefer ha-Torah hazeh.
22 (21)Ha-dor ha-acharon - your banim who will rise up after you, and the foreigner who will come from a far eretz - will say, when they see the plagues of ha-aretz ha-hu, and the sicknesses with which YHWH has made it sick,
23 (22)
that all of its eretz is sulfur, melakh, and burning, that it is not sown, doesn't produce, nor does any grass grow in it, like the overthrow of S'dom v'`Amorah, Admah u'Tz'voyim asher YHWH overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath.
24 (23)Kol ha-goyim will say, "Why has YHWH done this la-aretz hazot? What does the heat of this great anger mean?"
25 (24)
Then men will say, "Because they abandoned b'rit YHWH Elohei avotam, which he cut with them when he brought them me-eretz Mitzrayim,
26 (25)
and went and served elohm acherim and worshiped them, elohim that they didn't know and that he had not given to them.
27 (26)
Therefore the anger of YHWH burned ba-aretz ha-hi, to bring on it all the curses ha-k'tuvah ba-sefer hazeh.
28 (27)YHWH rooted them out of their adamah in anger, in wrath, and in great indignation, and thrust them el-eretz acheret ka-yom hazeh."
29:29 (28)
The secret things belong to YHWH Eloheinu; but the things that are revealed belong to us u'l'vaneinu ad-olam, that we may do kol divrei ha-Torah hazot.

3
that then YHWH Eloheikha will release you from captivity, have compassion on you, and will return and gather you mi-kol ha`amim where YHWH Eloheikha has scattered you.
4
If your outcasts are in the uttermost parts of ha-shamayim, from there YHWH Eloheikha will gather you, and from there he will bring you back.
5YHWH Eloheikha will bring you el-ha-aretz which avoteikha possessed, and you will possess it. He will do you good, and increase your numbers more than avoteikha.
6YHWH Eloheikha will circumcise your heart, and the heart of your zera, to love YHWH Eloheikha with all your heart and with all your nefesh, that you may live.
7YHWH Eloheikha will put all these curses on your enemies and on those who hate you, who persecuted you.
8
You shall return and hearken b'qol YHWH, and do all his mitzvot which I command you today.
9YHWH Eloheikha will make you prosperous b'khol ma`asei of your hand, in the fruit of your body, in the fruit of your b'hemot, and in the fruit of your adamah, l'tovah; for YHWH will again rejoice over you l'tovah as he rejoiced al-avoteikha,

30:11Ki ha-mitzvah hazot which I command you ha-yom is not too hard for you or too distant.
12Lo va-shamayim hi, that you should say, "Who will go up for us to ha-shamayim, bring it to us, and proclaim it to us, that we may do it?"
13
Neither is it beyond ha-yam, that you should say, "Who will go ever ha-yam for us, bring it to us, and proclaim it to us, that we may do it?"
14
But ha-davar is very near to you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it.
30:15Hinneh, I have set before you ha-yom ha-chayyim v'et ha-tovah v'et ha-mavet v'ha-ra.
16
For I command you ha-yom to love YHWH Eloheikha, to walk in his d'rakhim and to keep his mitzvot, his chukkim, and his mishpatim, that you may live and multiply, and that YHWH Eloheikha may bless you ba-aretz where you go in to possess it.
17
But if your heart turns away, and you will not hear, but are drawn away and worship elohim acherim, and serve them,
18
I declare to you today that you will surely perish. You will not prolong your days al-ha-adamah where you pass over ha-Yarden to go in to possess it.
19
I call ha-shamayim v'et-ha-aretz to witness against you today that I have set before you ha-chayyim v'ha-mavet, the blessing and the curse. Therefore choose ha-chayyim, that you may live, you and your z'ra`im,
20
to love YHWH Eloheikha, to obey his voice, and to cling to him; for he is your life, and the length of your days, that you may dwell al-ha-adamah which YHWH swore la-avoteikha, la-Avraham, l'Yitzchak, u'l'Ya`akov, to give them.

3YHWH Eloheikha himself will go over before you. He will destroy ha-goyim ha-eleh from before you, and you shall dispossess them. Y'hoshu`a will go over before you, ka-asher diber YHWH.
4YHWH will do to them as he did to Sichon u'l`Og, malkhei ha-Emori, and to their eretz, when he destroyed them.
5YHWH will deliver them up before you, and you shall do to them k'khol ha-mitzvah which I have commanded you.
6
Be strong and courageous. Don't be afraid or scared of them; ki YHWH Eloheikha himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you."
31:7Vayikra Mosheh li'Y'hoshu`a vayomer, to him in the sight of kol-Yisra'el, "Be strong and courageous, for you shall go with ha-am hazeh el-ha-aretz which YHWH has sworn to their avot to give them; and you shall cause them to inherit it.
8YHWH himself is who goes before you. He will be with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you. Don't be afraid. Don't be discouraged."
31:9Mosheh wrote ha-Torah hazot and delivered it to ha-kohanim b'nei Levi, who bore aron b'rit YHWH, v'el-kol ziqnei Yisra'el.
10Mosheh commanded them, lemor, "At the end of (every) sheva shanim b'mo`ed, of the year of ha-sh'mittah b'chag ha-sukkot,
11
when kol Yisra'el has come to appear before YHWH Eloheikha ba-maqom which he will choose, you shall read ha-Torah hazot before kol-Yisra'el in their hearing.
12
Assemble ha-am, ha-anashim v'ha-nashim and the little ones, and the foreigners who are within your gates, that they may hear, learn, fear YHWH Eloheikha, and observe to do kol divrei ha-Torah hazot,
13
and that their banim, who have not known, may hear and learn to fear YHWH Eloheikhem kol-ha-yamim, as long as you live al-ha-adamah where you go over ha-Yarden to possess it."
31:14Vayomer YHWH el-Mosheh, "Behold, your days approach that you must die. Call Y'hoshu`a, and present yourselves b'Ohel Mo`ed, that I may commission him." Mosheh vi'Y'hoshu`a went, and presented themselves b'Ohel Mo`ed.
15YHWH appeared ba-Ohel in a pillar of cloud, and the pillar of cloud stood al-petach ha-Ohel.
31:16Vayomer YHWH el-Mosheh, "Hinneh, you shall sleep with your avot. Ha-am hazeh will rise up and play the prostitute after the strange elohim of ha-aretz where they go to be among them, and will forsake me and break my b'rit which I have cut with them.
17
Then my anger shall be kindled against them ba-yom ha-hu, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall come on them; so that they will say in that day, 'Haven't these evils come on us because our Elohim is not among us?'
18
I will surely hide my face ba-yom ha-hu al kol-ha-ra`ah which they have done, in that they have turned el-elohim acherim.
19
"Now therefore write ha-shirah hazot for yourselves, and teach it to b'nei Yisra'el. Put it in their mouths, that shirah hazot may be a witness for me against b'nei Yisra'el.
20
For when I have brought them el-ha-adamah which I swore to their avot, flowing with milk and honey, and they have eaten and filled themselves, and grown fat, then they will turn el-elohim acherim, and serve them, and despise me, and break my b'rit.
21
It will happen, when many evils and troubles have come on them, that ha-shirah hazot will testify before them as a witness; for it will not be forgotten out of the mouths of their zera; for I know their ways and what they are doing today, before I have brought them el-ha-aretz which I promised them."
22
So Mosheh wrote ha-shirah hazot ba-yom ha-hu, and taught it to b'nei Yisra'el.
31:23
He commissioned Y'hoshua ben-Nun, vayomer, "Chazak and courageous; for you shall bring b'nei Yisra'el el-ha-aretz which I swore to them. I will be with you."
31:24
When Mosheh had finished writing divrei ha-Torah hazot al-sefer, until they were finished,
25Mosheh commanded ha-L'viyyim, who bore aron b'rit YHWH, lemor,
26
"Take sefer ha-Torah hazeh, and put it by the side of aron b'rit-YHWH Eloheikhem, that it may be there for a witness against you.
27
For I know your rebellion and your stiff neck. Behold, while I am yet alive with you ha-yom, you have been rebellious against YHWH. How much more after my death?
28
Assemble to me kol ha-ziqnei of your tribes and your officers, that I may speak in their ears ha-d'varim ha-eleh, and call ha-shamayim v'et-ha-aretz to witness against them.
29
For I know that after my death you will utterly corrupt yourselves, and turn away min-ha-derekh which I have commanded you; and evil will happen to you b'acharim ha-yamim, because you will do that which is evil in the sight of YHWH, to provoke him to anger through the work of your hands."
31:30Vaidaber Mosheh in the ears of kol-q'hal Yisra'el et-divrei ha-shirah hazot, until they were finished.
(53) PARASHAT HA-AZINU
Give ear
32
PEREQ לב
CHAPTER 32 32:1
Give ear, ha-shamayim, and I will speak.
Let ha-aretz hear the words of my mouth.
2
My doctrine will drop as the rain.
My speech will condense as the dew,
as the misty rain on the tender grass,
as the showers on the herb. 3
For I will proclaim shem YHWH.
Ascribe greatness l'Eloheinu! 4Ha-Tzur: his work is perfect,
for all his d'rakhim (are) mishpat. El emunah who does no wrong, tzaddik and right is he. 5
They have dealt corruptly with him.
They are not his banim, because of their defect.
They are a perverse and crooked generation. 6
Is this the way you repay YHWH, am naval v'lo chakham?
Isn't he Avikha who has bought you?
He has made you and established you. 7
Remember y'mot olam.
Consider the years dor-va-dor.
Ask avikha, and he will show you;
your z'qenim, and they will tell you. 8
When Elyon gave to goyim their inheritance,
when he separated b'nei adam,
he set the bounds of amim
according to the number of b'nei Yisra'el. 9
For the portion of YHWH is his people. Ya`akov is the lot of his inheritance.
10
He found him b'eretz midbar,
and in the waste, a howling wilderness.
He surrounded him.
He cared for him.
He kept him as the apple of his eye.
11
As an eagle that stirs up her nest,
that flutters over her young,
he spread abroad his kanfot,
he took them,
he bore them on his feathers. 12YHWH alone led him.
There was no foreign el with him. 13
He made him ride on the high places of aretz.
He ate the increase of ha-sadeh.
He caused him to suck honey mi-sela, shemen out of the flinty tzur; 14
butter from the herd, and milk from the flock,
with fat of lambs,
rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats,
with the finest of the wheat.
From the blood of the grape, you drank wine.
15
But Y'shurun[♦] grew fat, and kicked.
You have grown fat.
You have grown thick.
You have become sleek.
Then he abandoned Eloha who made him,
and rejected the Tzur y'shuato. 16
They moved him to jealousy with strange (gods).
They provoked him to anger with abominations. 17
They sacrificed l'shedim, lo eloha, elohim that they didn't know, chadashim (gods) that came up recently,
which avoteikhem didn't dread. 18
Of the Tzur who begot you, you are unmindful,
and have forgotten El who gave you birth.
19YHWH saw and abhorred,
because of the provocation of his banim and his banot. 20
He said, "I will hide my face from them.
I will see what their end will be;
for they are a very perverse generation, banim in whom is no faithfulness. 21
They have moved me to jealousy with a lo-el.
They have provoked me to anger with their vanities.
I will move them to jealousy with a lo-am. B'goy naval I will provoke them to anger. 22
For a fire is kindled in my nostril,
that burns ad-She'ol below,
devours eretz with its increase,
and sets the foundations of the mountains on fire.
23
"I will heap evils on them.
I will spend my arrows on them. 24
They shall be wasted with hunger,
and devoured with burning heat
and bitter destruction.
I will send the teeth of b'hemot on them,
with the venom of things that crawl in the dust. 25
Outside the sword will bereave,
and in the rooms,
terror on both young man and virgin,
the nursing infant with the gray-haired man. 26
I said that I would scatter them afar.
I would make their memory to cease from among anashim; 27
were it not that I feared the provocation of the enemy,
lest their adversaries should judge wrongly,
lest they should say, 'Our hand is exalted, YHWH has not done all this.' "
28
For they are a goy void of counsel.
There is no understanding in them. 29
Oh that they were chakhamim, that they understood this,
that they would consider their latter end! 30
How could one chase a thousand,
and two put ten thousand to flight,
unless their Tzur had sold them,
and YHWH had delivered them up? 31
For their tzur is not as our Tzur,
even our enemies themselves concede. 32
For their gefen is gefen S'dom,
u'mi-sadot `Amorah.
Their grapes are poison grapes.
Their clusters are bitter. 33
Their yayin is the poison of tanninim,
the cruel venom of asps.
34
"Isn't this laid up in store with me,
sealed up among my treasures? 35
Vengeance is mine, and recompense,
at the time when their foot slides;
for the day of their calamity is at hand.
Their doom rushes at them." 36Ki-yadin YHWH amo,
and have compassion on his `avadim,
when he sees that their power is gone;
that there is no one remaining, shut up or left at large. 37
He will say, "Where are their elohim,
the tzur in which they took refuge; 38
which ate the fat of their sacrifices,
and drank the yayin of their n'sakhim?
Let them rise up and help you!
Let them be your protection.
39
"See now that ani, ani hu.
(There is) ein elohim with me.
I kill and I make alive.
I wound and I heal.
There is no one who can deliver out of my hand. 40
For I lift up my hand el-ha-shamayim and declare, chai anokhi l'olam, 41
when I whet barak of my sword,
my hand grasps it in mishpat;
I will take vengeance on my adversaries,
and will repay those who hate me. 42
I will make my arrows drunk with blood.
My sword shall devour basar with the blood of the slain and the captives,
from the head of the leaders of the enemy."
43
Rejoice, goyim amo,
for he will avenge the blood of his `avadim.
He will take vengeance on his adversaries,
and will make atonement for his adamah and for his people.[♦]
32:44Va-yavo Mosheh, vaidaber et-kol-divrei ha-shirah hazot in the ears of the people, hu, v'Y'hoshu`a ben-Nun.
45Mosheh finished l'daber et-kol-ha-d'varim ha-eleh el-kol-Yisra'el,
46vayomer to them, "Set your heart l'khol ha-d'varim which I testify to you ha-yom, which you shall command your banm to observe to do, kol-divrei ha-Torah hazot.
47
For it is no vain thing for you, because it is your life, u'va-davar hazeh you shall prolong your days al-ha-adamah, where you go over ha-Yarden to possess it."
32:48Vaidaber YHWH el-Mosheh that same day, lemor,
49
"Go up el-har ha-Avarim hazeh, har-N'vo, asher b'eretz Mo'av, al-p'nei Y'recho; and see eretz K'na`an, asher anokhi noten li'v'nei Yisra'el for a possession.
50u'mut ba-har where you go up, and be gathered to your people, ka-asher met Aharon your brother b'har ha-Hor, and was gathered to his people;
51
because you trespassed against me among b'nei Yisra'el at the waters of M'rivat Kadesh, midbar Tzin; because you didn't uphold my holiness among b'nei Yisra'el.
52
For you shall see ha-aretz from a distance; but you shall not go el-ha-aretz, asher-ani noten li'v'nei Yisra'el."
(54) PARASHAT V'ZOT HA-B'RACHAH
And this is the blessing
33
PEREQ לג
CHAPTER 33 33:1
This is the blessing with which Mosheh ish ha-Elohim blessed b'nei Yisra'el before his death.
2Vayomar,
"YHWH mi-Sinai came,
and rose mi-Se`ir to them.
He shone me-Har Pa'ran.
He came from the ten thousands of holy ones.
At his right hand was an esh dat for them.[♦] 3
Yes, he loves the people.
All his k'doshim are in your hand.
They sat down at your feet.
Each receives your d'varim. 4Mosheh commanded us a Torah,
an inheritance for q'hillat Ya`akov. 5Va-y'hi vi-Shurun melekh,
when roshei `am were gathered,
all the tribes of Yisra'el together.
6
"Let R'uven live, and not die;
Nor let his men be few." 7V'zot l'Y'hudah. Vayomar,
"Sh'ma, YHWH, qol Y'hudah.
Bring him in to his people.
With his hands he contended for himself.
You shall be a help against his adversaries."
8U'l'Levi amar,
"Your Tummim and your Urim are with your chasid,
whom you proved b'Massah,
with whom you contended at the waters of M'rivah. 9
He said of aviv, and of his mother, 'I have not seen him.'
He didn't acknowledge his brothers,
nor did he know his own banim;
for they have observed your word,
and keep your b'rit. 10
They shall teach Ya`akov your mishpatim,
and Yisra'el your Torah.
They shall put incense before you,
and whole burnt offering on your mizbeach. 11Barukh, YHWH, his skills.
Accept the work of his hands.
Strike through the hips of those who rise up against him,
of those who hate him, that they not rise again."
12L'Vinyamin amar,
"Y'did (of) YHWH will dwell in safety by him.
He covers him kol ha-yom.
He dwells between his shoulders."
13U'l'Yosef amar,
"His eretz is blessed by YHWH,
for the precious things of shamayim, for the dew,
for the deep that couches beneath, 14
for the precious things of the fruits of shemesh,
for the precious things that the moon can yield, 15
for the best things of the ancient mountains,
for the precious things of the everlasting hills, 16
for the precious things of eretz and its fullness,
the good will of him who lived in the bush.[♦]
Let this come l'rosh Yosef,
on the crown of the head of him who was separated from his brothers. 17
Majesty belongs to the firstborn of his herd.
His horns are the horns of the wild ox.
With them he will push all the peoples to the ends of eretz.
They are the ten thousands of Efrayim.
They are the thousands of M'nassheh."
18U'li'Z'vulun amar,
"Rejoice, Z'vulun, in your going out;
and Y'saskhar, in your ohelim. 19
They will call the peoples to the mountain.
There they will offer sacrifices of tzeddek,
for they will draw out the abundance of yamim,
the hidden treasures of the sand." 20U'l'Gad amar,
"Barukh is he who enlarges Gad.
He dwells as a lioness,
and tears the arm and the crown of the head. 21
He provided the first part for himself,
for the lawgiver's portion reserved was reserved for him.
He came with the heads of the people.
He executed tzidkat YHWH,
His mishpatim with Yisra'el."
22U'l'Dan amar,
"Dan is a lion's cub
that leaps min-Bashan." 23U'l'Naftali amar,
"Naftali, satisfied with favor,
full of the blessing of YHWH,
Possess the west and the south."
24U'l'Asher amar,
"Barukh mi-banim Asher.[♦]
Let him be acceptable to his brothers.
Let him dip his foot ba-shemen. 25
Your bars will be iron u'n'choshet.
As your days, so your strength will be.
26
"There is no one like El, Y'shurun,
who rides on shamayim for your help,
in his excellency on the skies. 27Elohei of ancient times is your dwelling place.
Underneath are the everlasting arms.
He thrust out the enemy from before you,
and said, 'Destroy!' 28Yisra'el dwells in safety, `ein Ya`akov alone, el-eretz of grain and tirosh.
Yes, his shamayim drop down dew. 29
You are happy, Yisra'el!
Who is like you, a people saved by YHWH, magen of your help,
the sword of your excellency?
Your enemies will submit themselves to you.
You will tread on their high places."
PEREQ לד
CHAPTER 34 34:1Mosheh went up from the plains of Mo'av el-har N'vo (to) rosh ha-Pisgah asher al-p'nei Y'recho. And YHWH showed him kol-ha-aretz et-ha-Gil`ad `ad-Dan,
2
and kol-Naftali v'et-eretz Efrayim u'M'nassheh, v'et kol-eretz Y'hudah ad ha-yam acharon,
3v'et-ha-negev v'et-ha-kikkar of the valley of Y'recho the city of palm trees, `ad-Tzo`ar.
4Vayomer YHWH to him, "Zot ha-aretz which I swore l'Avraham, l'Yitzchak, u'l'Ya`akov, lemor, 'I will give it to your zera.' I have caused you to see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over there."
5
So Mosheh, eved YHWH died there b'eretz Mo'av, al-pi YHWH.
6
He buried him b'gai b'eretz Mo'av opposite Beit P`or, but no man knows where his tomb is `ad ha-yom hazeh.
7Mosheh was one hundred twenty years old when he died. His eye was not dim, nor his strength gone.
8B'nei Yisra'el wept for Mosheh in the plains of Mo'av thirty days, until the days of weeping in the mourning for Mosheh were ended.
9Y'hoshu`a ben-Nun was full of ruach chokhmah, for Mosheh had laid his hands on him. B'nei Yisra'el listened to him, and did as YHWH commanded Mosheh.
10
There has not arisen a navi od b'Yisra'el k'Mosheh, whom YHWH knew panim el-panim,
11l'khol-ha-otot v'moftim which YHWH sent him to do b'eretz Mitzrayim l'Far`oh, and to all his avadim, and to all his eretz,
12u'l'khol ha-yad ha-chazakah, and in all the awesome deeds, which Mosheh did in the sight of kol Yisra'el.

19:4: "Hate" is not quite as strong a term as we may consider it today. "The [Hebrew] term 'sane'... expresses an emotional attitude toward persons and things which are opposed, detested, despised and with which one wishes to have no contact or relationship. It is therefore the opposite of love. Whereas love draws and unites, hate separates and keeps distant. The hated and hating persons are considered foes or enemies and are considered odious, utterly unappealing. ... In (21:15) Moses used this adjective to state plainly that an aversion to a wife is no good reason to disinherit her son as the firstborn, even though he may personally prefer sons by a second wife."
