PEREQ א
CHAPTER 1 1:1Shim'on Kefa, `eved v'shaliach (of) Yeshua ha-Mashiach, to those who have obtained a like precious emunah with us in tzidkat Eloheinu u'Moshienu Yeshua ha-Mashiach:
1:2Chesed to you and shalom be multiplied in the knowledge of Elohim and of Yeshua Adoneinu.
1:3
Seeing that power of Elohim has granted to us all (things) that pertain to chayyim and chasidut, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own kavod and virtue;
4
whereby he has granted to us his precious and exceedingly great promises; that through these you may become partakers of the nature of Elohim, having escaped from the corruption that is ba`olam by lust.
5
Yes, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your emunah supply moral excellence; and in moral excellence, knowledge;
6
and in knowledge, self-control; and in self-control, patience; and in patience, chasidut;
7
and in chasidut, love [phileo(1-7)] of ha-achim; and in love of ha-achim, ahavah.
8
For if these (things) are yours and abound, they make you to be not idle nor unfruitful to the knowledge of Adoneinu Yeshua ha-Mashiach.
9
For he who lacks these (things) is blind, seeing only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old chatta'im.
10
Therefore, achim, be more diligent to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these (things), you will never stumble.
11
For thus will be richly supplied to you the entrance into ha-malkhut `olam (of) Adoneinu u'Moshienu, Yeshua ha-Mashiach.
1:12
Therefore, I will not be negligent to remind you of these, though you know them, and are established in the present emet.
13
I think it right, as long as I am in this mishkan, to stir you up by reminding you;
14
knowing that the putting off of my mishkan comes swiftly, even as Adoneinu Yeshua ha-Mashiach made clear to me.
15
Yes, I will make every effort that you may always be able to remember these even after my departure.
1:16
For we did not follow cunningly devised haggadot, when we made known to you the power and coming of Adoneinu Yeshua ha-Mashiach, but we were eyewitnesses of his g'dullah.
17
For he received from Elohim ha-Av honor and kavod, when ha-qol came to him from ha-Kavod G'dullah, "This is my beloved Ben, in whom I am well pleased."
18Ha-qol hazeh we heard come out of ha-shamayim, when we were with him b'har ha-kodesh.
19
We have the more sure d'var ha-n'vuah; whereunto you do well that you take heed, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns, and the day star1-19 arises in your l'vavot:
20
knowing this first, that no n'vuat ha-K'tuvim is of private interpretation.
21
For no n'vuah ever came by the will of b'nei adam: but anshei Elohim ha-k'doshim spoke, being moved by Ruach ha-Kodesh.
PEREQ ב
CHAPTER 2 2:1
But there also arose false nevi'im among ha`am, as among you also there will be false morim, who will secretly bring in destructive choices, denying even ha-Adon who bought them, bringing on themselves swift avaddon.
2
Many will follow their destructive ways, and as a result, the way of ha-emet will be maligned.
3
In greed will they exploit you with deceptive d'varim: whose sentence now from of old doesn't linger, and their avaddon will not slumber.
2:4
For if Elohim didn't spare malakhim when they sinned, but cast them down to Tartaros
[ταρταρόω2-4], and committed them to pits of darkness, to be reserved to mishpat;
5
and didn't spare the ancient world, but preserved Noach with seven others, a preacher of tz'dakah, when he brought a flood on ha`olam of the ungodly;
6
and turning the cities of S'dom v'`Amorah into ashes, condemned them to overthrow, having made them an example to those who would live ungodly;
7
and delivered Lot ha-tzaddik, very distressed by the lustful life of the wicked
8
(for ha-tzaddik hazeh dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, tormented his righteous nefesh yom yom with lawless deeds):
9Adonai knows how to deliver ha-chasidim out of temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment to yom ha-mishpat;
10
but chiefly those who walk after ha-basar in the lust of defilement, and despise authority.
Daring, self-willed, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries;
11
whereas malakhim, though greater in might and power, don't bring a railing mishpat against them before Adonai.
12
But these, as creatures without reason, born mere b'hemot to be taken and destroyed, speaking evil in matters about which they are ignorant, will in their destroying surely be destroyed,
13
receiving the wages of unrighteousness; people who count it pleasure to revel in the daytime, spots and blemishes, reveling in their deceit while they feast with you;
14
having eyes full of adultery, and who can't cease from chet; enticing unsettled nafshot; having a heart trained in greed; cursed y'ladim;
15
forsaking the right derekh, they went astray, having followed b'derekh Bil`am ben Be`or, who loved the wages of wrong-doing;
16
but he was rebuked for his own disobedience. A mute aton spoke with qol adam and stopped the madness of ha-navi.
2:17
These are wells without mayim, clouds driven by a storm; for whom the blackness of darkness has been reserved l`olam.
18
For, uttering great swelling words of emptiness, they entice in the lusts of ha-basar, by licentiousness, those who are indeed escaping from those who live in error;
19
promising them liberty, while they themselves are `avadim of corruption; for by whom a man is overcome, by the same is he also brought into bondage.
20
For if, after they have escaped the defilement of ha`olam through the knowledge of ha-Adon u'Moshia, Yeshua ha-Mashiach, they are again entangled therein and overcome, the last state has become worse with them than ha-rishon.
21
For it would be better for them not to have known derekh tz'dakah, than, after knowing it, to turn back from ha-mitzvah ha-k'doshah delivered to them.
22
But it has happened to them according to the true mashal, "The dog turns to his own vomit again,"[♦] and "the sow that had washed to wallowing in the mire."
A (22) Prov. 26:11.
PEREQ ג
CHAPTER 3 3:1Zot hi ha-iggeret ha-shenit, beloved, that I have written to you; and in both of them I stir up your sincere mind by reminding you
2
that you should remember ha-d'varim which were spoken before by ha-nevi'im ha-k'doshim, v'ha-mitzvot of us, ha-shlichim ha-Adon u'Moshia:
3
knowing this first, that in acharit ha-yamim, mockers will come, walking after their own lusts,
4
and saying, "Where is the promise of his coming?" For from the day that ha-avot fell asleep, all things continue as they were me-reshit ha-b'riah.
5
For this they willfully forget, that there were shamayim from of old, and eretz formed out of mayim and amid mayim, by d'var Elohim;
6
by which means ha`olam that then was, being overflowed with mayim, perished.
7
But ha-shamayim that now are, and ha-aretz, by the same davar have been stored up for fire, being reserved against yom ha-mishpat and destruction of ungodly b'nei adam.
3:8
But don't forget this one thing, beloved, that yom echad is with Adonai as a thousand years,[A] and a thousand years as yom echad.
9Adonai is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is longsuffering toward us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to t'shuvah.
10
But Yom Adonai will come as a thief ba-lailah; in which ha-shamayim will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will be broken up with fervent heat, and ha-aretz v'ha-ma`asim that are in it will be burned down.
3:11
Therefore since all these things are thus to be broken up, what manner (of persons) ought you to be in holy conduct and chasidut,
12
looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of Yom Elohim,3-12 by reason of
which ha-shamayim being on fire will be broken up, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?
13
But, according to his promise, we look for shamayim chadashim v'eretz chadashah,[B]. in which dwells tzedek.
3:14
Therefore, beloved, seeing that you look for these things, be diligent to be found in shalom, without blemish and blameless in his sight.
15
Regard the patience of Adoneinu as yeshu`ah; even as our beloved ach Sha'ul also, according to ha-chokhmah given to him, wrote to you;
16
as also in all of his iggrot, speaking in them of these things. In those are some things hard to be understood, which the ignorant and unsettled twist, as they do also to the other K'tuvim, to their own destruction.
17
You, therefore, beloved, knowing these things beforehand, watch lest, being carried away with the error of the wicked, you fall from your own steadfastness.
18
But grow in chesed and knowledge of Adoneinu u'Moshienu Yeshua ha-Mashiach. To him be ha-kavod gam ha-yom v'gam l'yom ha`olam. Amein.
