CHAPTER 1

1:1 In the eighth month, bi-sh'nat sh'tayim l'Daryavesh, hayah d'var-YHWH, el-Z'charyah ben Berekhyah, ben-`Iddo, ha-navi, lemor,  2 "YHWH was very displeased with avoteikhem.  3 Therefore tell them: Ko amar YHWH Ts'va'ot: 'Return to me,' n'um YHWH Ts'va'ot, 'and I will return to you,' amar YHWH Ts'va'ot.  4 Don't you be ka-avoteikhem, to whom the former n'vi'im proclaimed, saying: Ko amar YHWH Ts'va'ot, 'Return now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings;' but they didn't hear, nor listen to me, n'um YHWH.  5 Avoteikhem, where are they?  V'ha-n'vi'im, do they live l'olam?  6 But my d'varim and my chukkim, which I commanded my avadim ha-n'vi'im, didn't they overtake avoteikhem?  "Then they repented vayomru, 'Just as YHWH Ts'va'ot determined to do to us, according to our ways, and according to our practices, so he has dealt with us.' "

1:7 On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, hu chodesh Sh'vat, bi-sh'nat sh'tayim Daryavesh, hayah d'var YHWH el-Z'charyah ben-Berekhyahu, ben-`Iddo, ha-navi, lemor,  8 "I had a vision in ha-lailah, v'hinneh, a man riding on a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in a ravine; and behind him there were red, brown, and white horses.  9 Then I asked, 'Ma-eleh, Adoni?'"  Vayomer ha-mal'akh to me, "I will show you what these are."  10 The man who stood among the myrtle trees answered, "eleh asher shalach YHWH to go back and forth ba-aretz."  11 They reported to mal'akh YHWH who stood among the myrtle trees, and said, "We have walked back and forth ba-aretz, v'hinneh, khol-ha-aretz is at rest."  12 Then mal'akh YHWH replied, "YHWH Ts'va'ot, how long will you not have mercy on Y'rushala'im and on the cities of Y'hudah, against which you have had indignation these seventy years?"  13 YHWH answered ha-mal'akh who talked with me with kind and comforting d'varim.  14 So ha-mal'akh talked with me vayomer to me, "Proclaim, saying, 'Ko amar YHWH Ts'va'ot: "I am jealous for Y'rushalaim u'l'Tziyyon with a great jealousy.  15 I am very angry `al-ha-goyim that are at ease; for I was but a little displeased, but they added to the calamity."  16 Therefore koh amar YHWH: "I have returned l'Y'rushalaim with mercy.  My house shall be built in it," n'um YHWH Ts'va'ot, "and a line shall be stretched out over Jerusalem."'  17 "Proclaim further, saying, 'koh amar YHWH Ts'va'ot: "My cities will again overflow with prosperity, and YHWH will again comfort Tziyyon, and will again choose Y'rushalaim." ' "

1:18(2:1 in Jewish Bible) I lifted up my eyes, and saw, v'hinneh, four horns.  19(2:2) I asked ha-mal'akh who talked with me, "Mah-eleh?"  Vayomer to me, "These are the horns which have scattered Y'hudah, et-Yisra'el v'Y'rushalaim."  20(2:3) YHWH showed me four craftsmen.  21(2:4) Then I asked, "What are these coming to do?"  Vayomer, "These are the horns which scattered Y'hudah, so that no man lifted up his head; but these have come to terrify them, to cast down the horns of ha-goyim, which lifted up their horn el-eretz Y'hudah to scatter it."

CHAPTER 2

2:1(5) I lifted up my eyes, and saw, v'hinneh, ish, and in his hand a measuring line.  2(6) Then I asked, "Where are you going?"  Vayomer to me, "To measure Y'rushalaim, to see what is its width and what is its length."  3(7) V'hinneh, ha-mal'akh who talked with me went out, u'mal'akh acher went out to meet him,  4(8) Vayomer to him, "Run, speak to this young man, saying, 'Y'rushalaim will be inhabited without walls, because of the multitude of adam u'v'hemah in it.  5(9) 'And I will be' n'um YHWH, 'to her a wall of fire around it, and I will be kavod in the middle of her.'

2:6(10) 'Hoi!  Hoi!  Flee me-eretz tsafon,' n'um YHWH; 'for I have spread you abroad as the four ruchot ha-shamayim,' n'um YHWH.  7(11) 'Come, Tziyyon!  Escape, you who dwell with bat-Bavel.'  8(12) Ki kho amar YHWH Ts'va'ot: 'For kavod he has sent me el-ha-goyim which plundered you; for he who touches you touches the apple of his eye.  9(13) Ki hinneh, I will shake my hand over them, and they will be a plunder to those who served them; and you will know that YHWH Ts'va'ot has sent me.  10(14) Sing and rejoice, bat-Tziyyon; ki hinneh, I come, and I will dwell within you,' n'um YHWH.  11(15) Goyim rabbim shall join themselves el-YHWH ba-yom ha-hu, and shall be to me a people; and I will dwell among you, and you shall know that YHWH Ts'va'ot has sent me to you.  12(16) YHWH will inherit Y'hudah as his portion `al-adamat ha-kodesh, and will again choose Y'rushalaim.

13(17) Be silent, kol basar, mi'p'nei YHWH; for he has roused himself from his holy habitation!"

CHAPTER 3

3:1 He showed me Y'hoshu`a ha-Kohen ha-Gadol standing lif'nei mal'akh YHWHv' v'ha-satan, standing at his right hand to be his satan [adversary].  2 Vayomer YHWH el-ha-satan, "YHWH rebuke you, ha-satan! YHWH who has chosen Y'rushala'im rebuke you!  Isn't this a brand plucked out of the fire?"  3 V'Y'hoshu`a was clothed with filthy garments, and was standing lif'nei ha-mal'akh.  4 He answered vayomer to those who stood before him, lemor, "Take the filthy garments off him."  Vayomer to him, "Hinneh, I have caused your iniquity to pass from you, and I will clothe you with rich clothing."  5 I said, "Let them set a clean turban on his head."  So they set a clean turban on his head, and clothed him; u'mal'akh YHWH was standing by.

3:6 Mal'akh YHWH warned Y'hoshu`a, lemor,  7 "Koh-amar YHWH Ts'va'ot: 'If you will walk in my ways, and if you will follow my instructions, then you also shall judge my bayit, and shall also keep my courts, and I will give you a place of access among these who stand by.  8 Hear now, Y'hoshu`a ha-Kohen ha-Gadol, you and your fellows who sit before you; for they are anshei (who are a) mofet: ki-hinneh, I will bring out my eved, Tzemach.  9 Ki hinneh, ha-even, that I have set lif'nei Y'hoshu`a; `al-even achat are seven eyes: hinneh, I will engrave its engraving,' n'um YHWH Ts'va'ot, 'and I will remove the iniquity of ha-aretz ha-hi b'yom echad.  10 Ba-yom ha-hu,' n'um YHWH Ts'va'ot, 'you will invite every man his neighbor under the gefen and under the fig tree.' "

CHAPTER 4

4:1 Ha-mal'akh who talked with me came again, and wakened me, as a man who is wakened out of his sleep.  2 Vayomer to me, "What do you see?"  I said, "I have seen, v'hinneh, m'norat all of zahav, with its bowl on the top of it, and its shiv`ah nerot on it; there are seven pipes to each of ha-nerot, which are on the top of it;  3 and two zetim by it, one on the right side of the bowl, and the other on the left side of it."  4 I answered and spoke el-ha-mal'akh who talked with me, lemor, "Ma-eleh, adoni?"  5 Then ha-mal'akh who talked with me answered vayomer to me, "Don't you know what these are?"  I said, "Lo, adoni."  6 Then he answered vayomer to me, lemor, "Zeh d'var YHWH el-Z'rubbavel, lemor, 'Not by might, nor by power, but by my Ruach,' amar YHWH Ts'va'ot.  7 Mi attah, har-ha-gadol lif'nei Z'rubbavel?  You shall become a plain; and he will bring out ha-even ha-roshah with shouts of 'Grace, grace, to it!' "  8 Va'y'hi d'var YHWH (came) to me, lemor,  9 "Y'dei Z'rubbavel have laid the foundation of ha-bayit hazeh.  His hands shall also finish it; and you will know that YHWH Ts'va'ot has sent me to you.  10 Indeed, who despises the day of small things?  For these seven shall rejoice, and shall see the plumb line b'yad Z'rubbavel.

These seven are the eyes of YHWH, which run back and forth b'khol ha-aretz."  4:11 Then I asked him, "What are these two zetim ha-eleh on the right side of ha-m'norah and on the left side of it?"  12 I asked him the second time, "What are these two zetim which are beside the two spouts of zahav, that pour the oil of zahav out of themselves?"  13 Vayomer to me lemor, "Don't you know what these are?"  I said, "Lo, adoni."  14 Vayomer, "These are the two anointed ones who stand `al-Adon kol ha-aretz."

CHAPTER 5

5:1 Then again I lifted up my eyes, and saw, v'hinneh, a flying m'gillah.  2 Vayomer to me, "What do you see?"  I answered, "I see a flying m'gillah; its length is twenty cubits, and its width ten cubits."  3 Vayomer to me, "This is the curse that goes out al p'nei khol ha-aretz; for everyone who steals shall be cut off according to it on the one side; and everyone who swears falsely shall be cut off according to it on the other side.  4 I will cause it to go out," n'um YHWH Ts'va'ot, "and it will enter into the house of the thief, and into ha-bayit of him who swears falsely by my name; and it will remain in the middle of his bayit, and will destroy it with its timber and its stones."

5:5 Then ha-mal'akh who talked with me came forward, vayomer to me, "Lift up now your eyes, and see what this is that is appearing."  6 I said, "Mah hi?"  Vayomer, "Zot ha-efah that is appearing."  Vayomer, "This is their appearance b'khol ha-aretz -  7 v'hinneh, kikkar of lead was lifted up); v'zot ishshah echat sitting in the middle of ha-efah (basket)."  8 Vayomer, "This is Wickedness;" and he threw her down into the middle of ha-efah (basket); and he threw the weight of lead on its mouth.  9 Then I lifted up my eyes and saw, v'hinneh, sh'tayim nashim came forth, v'ruach (was in their) kanfot.  Now they had k'nafayim k'kanfei a stork, and they lifted up ha-efah (basket) bein ha-aretz u'vein ha-shamayim.  10 Then I said to ha-mal'akh who talked with me, "Where are these carrying ha-efah (basket)?"  11 Vayomer to me, "To build her a bayit b'eretz Shin`ar.  When it is prepared, she will be set there in her own place."

PEREQ ‏ו‎
CHAPTER 6

6:1 Again I lifted up my eyes, and saw, v'hinneh, four chariots came out mi'bein sh'nei he-harim; v'he-harim harei n'choshet.  2 In the first chariot were red horses; in the second chariot black horses;  3 in the third chariot white horses; and in the fourth chariot dappled horses, all of them powerful.  4 Then I asked ha-mal'akh who talked with me, "Mah-eleh, adoni?"  5 Ha-mal'akh answered me vayomer, "These are the four ruchot ha-shamayim, which go out from standing `al-Adon kol-ha-aretz.  6 The one with the black horses goes out el-eretz tsafon; and the white went out after them; and the dappled went out el-eretz ha-teman."  7 The strong went out, and sought to go that they might walk back and forth ba-aretz: Vayomer, "Go around and ba-aretz!"  So they walked back and forth ba-aretz.  8 Then he called to me, and spoke to me, saying, "Behold, those who go el-eretz tsafon have quieted my ruach b'eretz tsafon."

6:9 Va'y'hi d'var YHWH came to me, lemor,  10 "Take of them of the captivity, me-Cheldai u'me-et Toviyah u'me-et Y'dayah; and come ha-yom ha-hi, and go into beit Yoshi'yah ven Tz'fanyah, where they have come mi-Bavel.  11 Yes, take kesef v'zahav, and make crowns, and set them b'rosh Y'hoshu`a ben-Y'hotzadaq, ha-kohen ha-gadol; 12 and speak to him, lemor, 'Ko amar YHWH Ts'va'ot, "Hinneh, ish Tzemach sh'mo: and he shall grow up out of his place; and he shall build heikhal YHWH;  13 even he shall build heikhal YHWH; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule on his kisseh; v'hayah kohen on his kisseh; and the counsel of shalom shall be between them both.  14 The crowns shall be to Chelem u'l'Toviyah u'l'Y'dayah u'l'Chen ben Tz'fanyah , for a memorial b'heikhal YHWH.  15 Those who are far off shall come and build b'heikhel YHWH; and you shall know that YHWH Ts'va'ot has sent me to you.  This will happen, if you will diligently hearken b'qol YHWH Eloheikhem." ' "

PEREQ ‏ז‎
CHAPTER 7

7:1 In the fourth year of Daryavesh ha-melekh, d'var YHWH came to Z'kharyah in the fourth day of the ninth month, b'Khislev.  2 (The people of) Beit-El sent Saretzer v'Regem Melech and his anashim to entreat the favor of YHWH,  3 and to speak to ha-kohanim asher b'veit YHWH Ts'va'ot v'el-ha-n'vi'im, lemor, "Should I weep ba-chodesh ha-chamishi, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?"  4 Va'y'hi d'var YHWH Ts'va'ot to me, lemor,  5 "Speak el-kol-`am ha-aretz, v'el-ha-kohanim, lemor, 'When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and in the seventh month, v'zeh shiv`im shanah, did you at all fast to me, me?  6 When you eat, and when you drink, don't you eat for yourselves, and drink for yourselves?  7 Aren't these ha-d'varim which YHWH proclaimed b'yad ha-n'vi'im ha-rishonim, when Y'rushalaim was inhabited and in prosperity, and its cities around her, v'ha-negev v'ha-sh'felah were inhabited?'"

7:8 Va'y'hi d'var YHWH el-Z'charyah, lemor,  9 "Ko amar YHWH Ts'va'ot, lemor, 'Execute mishpat emet, v'chesed and compassion ish et-achiv.  10 Don't oppress ha-almanah, nor the fatherless, the foreigner, nor the poor; and let none of you devise evil against his brother in your heart.'  11 But they refused to listen, and turned their backs, and stopped their ears, that they might not hear.  12 Yes, they made their hearts as hard as flint, lest they might hear ha-Torah, and ha-d'varim which YHWH Ts'va'ot had sent by his Ruach b'yad ha-n'vi'im ha-rishonim.  Therefore great wrath came from YHWH Ts'va'ot.  13 Va'y'hi that, as he called, and they refused to listen, so they will call, and I will not listen," amar YHWH Ts'va'ot;  14 "but I will scatter them with a whirlwind `al-kol ha-goyim which they have not known.  Thus ha-aretz was desolate after them, so that no man passed through nor returned: for they made the pleasant eretz desolate."

PEREQ ‏ח‎
CHAPTER 8

8:1 Va'y'hi d'var YHWH Ts'va'ot, lemor.  2 Koh amar YHWH Ts'va'ot: "I am jealous l'Tziyyon with great jealousy, and I am jealous for her with great wrath."  3 Koh amar YHWH: "I have returned l'Tziyyon, and will dwell in the middle of Y'rushalaim.  Y'rushalaim shall be called '`Ir ha-Emet;' v'har YHWH Ts'va'ot, har ha-Kodesh.' "  4 Koh amar YHWH Ts'va'ot: "Z'kenim u'z'kenot will again dwell in the streets of Y'rushalaim, every man with his staff in his hand for very (great) age.  5 The streets of ha-ir will be full of y'ladim v'y'ladot playing in its streets."  6 Koh amar YHWH Ts'va'ot: "If it is marvelous in the eyes of the remnant of ha-`am hazeh, should it also be marvelous in my eyes?" n'um YHWH Ts'va'ot.  7 Koh amar YHWH Ts'va'ot: "Hinneh, I will save my people me-eretz mizrach, u'me-eretz (of the setting of) ha-shemesh [i.e., the west];  8 and I will bring them, and they will dwell within Y'rushalaim; and they will be my people, and I will be their Elohim be'emet u'vi'tz'dakah."  9 Koh amar YHWH Ts'va'ot: "Let your hands be strong, you who hear ba-yamim ha-eleh et ha-d'varim ha-eleh mi-pi ha-n'vi'im asher b'yom that the foundation of beit YHWH Ts'va'ot was laid, ha-hekhal, that it might be built.  10 Ki lif'nei ha-yamim ha-hem there were no wages for ha-adam, nor any wages for b'hemah; neither was there any shalom to him who went out or came in, because of the enemy.  For I set kol ha-adam every one against his neighbor.  11 But now I will not be to the remnant of ha-`am hazeh ka-yamim ha-rishonah," n'um YHWH Ts'va'ot.  12 "Ki zera ha-shalom, ha-gefen will yield its fruit, and ha-aretz will give its increase, v'ha-shamayim will give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of ha-`am hazeh to inherit kol eleh.  13 V'hayah that, as you were a curse ba-goyim, beit Y'hudah u'veit Yisra'el, so I will save you, and you shall be a blessing.  Don't be afraid. Let your hands be chazak."

8:14 Ki khoh amar YHWH Ts'va'ot: "As I thought to do evil to you, when avoteikhem provoked me to wrath," amar YHWH Ts'va'ot, "and I was not sorry;  15 so again I have thought ba-yamim ha-eleh to do good to Y'rushalaim v'et beit Y'hudah.  Don't be afraid.  16 These are the things that you shall do: speak every man emet with his neighbor.  Execute emet u'mishpat shalom in your gates,  17 and let none of you devise evil in your hearts against his neighbor, and love no false oath: ki kol-eleh are things that I hate," n'um YHWH.

8:18 Va'y'hi d'var YHWH Ts'va'ot came to me, lemor,  19 Koh amar YHWH Ts'va'ot: "The fasts of the fourth, fifth, seventh, and tenth months shall be l'veit Y'hudah l'sason u'l'simchah, u'l'mo`adim tovim.  Therefore love ha-emet v'ha-shalom."

8:20 Koh amar YHWH Ts'va'ot: "Many peoples, and the inhabitants of `irim rabbot will yet come;  21 and the inhabitants of one shall go to another, saying, 'Let's go speedily to entreat the favor of YHWH, and to seek YHWH Ts'va'ot.  I will go also.'  22 Yes, `amim rabbim and strong goyim will come to seek YHWH Ts'va'ot b'Y'rushalaim, and to entreat the favor of YHWH."  23 Koh amar YHWH Ts'va'ot: "Ba-yamim ha-hemah, ten anashim will take hold, mi-kol l'shonot ha-goyim, they will take hold of the kanaf (of an) ish Y'hudi, lemor, 'We will go with you, for we have heard that Elohim is with you.' "

CHAPTER 9

9:1 Massa[♦] d'var YHWH,
b'eretz Chadrach, v'Dammeseq
will be its resting place;
ki la-YHWH is the eye of adam
and of all the tribes of Yisra'el;
2 v'gam Chamat, which borders on it;
Tzor v'Tzidon, for she has chokhmah me'od.
3 Tzor built herself a stronghold,
and heaped up kesef like the dust,
and fine gold like the mire of the streets.
4 Hinneh, Adonai will dispossess her,
and he will strike her power ba-yam;
and she will be devoured ba-esh.

9:5 Ashqelon will see it, and fear;
`Aza also, and will writhe in agony;
v`Eqron, for her expectation will be disappointed;
and melekh `Aza will perish,
v'Ashqelon will not be inhabited.
6 A bastard will dwell b'Ashdod,
and I will cut off the pride of P'lishtim.
7 I will take away his blood out of his mouth,
and his abominations from between his teeth;
and he also will be a remnant for our Elohim;
and he will be as a chieftain b'Y'hudah,
v`Ekron k'Y'vusi
.
8 I will encamp around my bayit against the army,
that no one pass through or return;
and no oppressor will pass through them any more:
for now I have seen with my eyes.

9 Gili me'od, bat Tziyyon!
Shout, bat Y'rushalaim!
Hinneh, your Melekh comes to you!
He is tzaddik, and having salvation;
lowly, and riding `al-chamor,
v`al ayir, ben-atonot.
10 I will cut off the chariot me-Efrayim,
and the horse m'Y'rushalaim;
and the battle bow will be cut off;
and he will speak shalom la-goyim:
and his dominion will be mi-yam ad-yam,
u'mi-nahar to the ends of the eretz.

11 As for you also,
because of the blood of your b'rit,
I have set free your prisoners from the pit in which is ein mayim.
12 Return to the stronghold, you prisoners of ha-tikvah!
Gam ha-yom I declare that I will restore double to you.
13 For indeed I bend Y'hudah as a bow for me.
I have filled the bow with Efrayim;
and I will stir up your banim, Tziyyon,
against your banim, Yavan,
and will make you like the sword of a mighty man.

14 V'YHWH will be seen over them;
and his arrow will go forth ka-barak;
v'Adonai YHWH will blow ha-shofar,
and will go with whirlwinds (of the) teiman.
15 YHWH Ts'va'ot will defend them;
and they will destroy and overcome with sling stones;
and they will drink, and roar as through yayin;
and they will be filled like bowls,
like the corners of the mizbeach.

16 YHWH Eloheihem will save them ba-yom ha-hu as the flock of his people;
for they are like the jewels of a crown,
lifted on high over his adamah.
17 For how great is his goodness,
and how great is his beauty!
Grain will make the young men flourish,
v'tirosh the virgins.

PEREQ ‏י‎
CHAPTER 10

10:1 Ask me-YHWH rain in the spring time,
YHWH who makes storm clouds,
and he gives rain showers to everyone for the plants ba-sadeh.
2 For ha-t'rafim have spoken vanity,
and the diviners have seen a lie;
and they have told false dreams.
They comfort in vain.
Therefore they go their way like sheep.
They are oppressed, ki-ein ro'eh.

10:3 My anger is kindled `al-ha-ro'im,
and I will punish the male goats;
For YHWH Ts'va'ot has visited his flock, beit Y'hudah,
and will make them as his majestic horse in the battle.
4 From him will come the pinnah,
from him the nail,
from him the battle bow,
from him every ruler together.
5 They shall be as gibborim,
treading down muddy streets in the battle;
and they shall fight, because YHWH is with them;
and the riders on horses will be confounded.

10:6 "I will strengthen beit Y'hudah,
and I will save Yosef,
and I will bring them back;
for I have mercy on them;
and they will be as though I had not cast them off:
ki ani YHWH Eloheihem, and I will hear them.
7 Efrayim will be like a gibbor,
and their heart will rejoice as through yayin;
yes, their banim will see it, and rejoice.
Their heart will be glad ba-YHWH.

10:8 I will signal for them, and gather them;
for I have redeemed them;
and they will increase as they have increased.
9 I will sow them ba`amim;
and they will remember me in far countries;
and they will live with their banim, and will return.
10 I will bring them again me-eretz Mitzrayim,
u'me-Ashshur
;
v'el eretz Gil`ad u'L'vanon;
and there won't be room enough for them.
11 He will pass through ha-yam of affliction,
and will strike the waves ba-yam,
and all the depths of y'or [the Nile] will dry up;
and the pride of Ashshur will be brought down,
and the scepter of Mitzrayim will depart.
12 I will strengthen them ba-YHWH;
and they will walk up and down in his name," n'um YHWH.

CHAPTER 11

11:1 Open your doors, L'vanon,
that esh may devour your cedars.
2 Wail, cypress tree, for the cedar has fallen,
because the stately ones are destroyed.
Wail, you oaks of Bashan,
for the strong forest has come down.
3 A voice of the wailing of ha-ro'im!
For their glory is destroyed: a voice of the roaring of young lions!
For the pride of ha-Yarden is ruined.
11:4 Koh amar YHWH Elohai: "Feed the flock of slaughter.  5 Their buyers slaughter them, and go unpunished.  Those who sell them say, 'Barukh YHWH, for I am rich;' and their own ro'im don't pity them.  6 For I will no more pity the inhabitants of ha-aretz," n'um YHWH; "v'hinneh, I will deliver ha-adam, (every) ish into his neighbor's hand, and into the hand of his melekh.  They will strike ha-aretz, and out of their hand I will not deliver them."

11:7 So I fed the flock of slaughter, especially the oppressed of the flock.  I took for myself two staffs.  The one I called "No`am" [Favor], and the other I called "Chovlim" [Binders; Pledges], and I fed the flock.  8 I cut off shloshet ro`im in one month; for my nefesh was weary of them, and their nefesh also loathed me.  9 Then I said, "I will not feed you.  That which dies, let it die; and that which is to be cut off, let it be cut off; and let those who are left eat each other's basar."  10 I took my staff Favor, and cut it apart, that I might break my b'rit that I had made et-kol-ha-`amim.  11 It was broken ba-yom ha-hu; and thus the poor of the flock that listened to me knew ki d'var YHWH hu.  12 I said to them, "If you think it best, give me my sekher; and if not, keep them."  So they weighed for my sekher thirty (pieces of) kesef.[A]13 Vayomer YHWH to me, "Throw it to the potter, the handsome price that I was valued at by them!"  I took the thirty (pieces of) kesef, and threw them to the potter, in beit YHWH.  14 Then I cut apart my other staff, even Pledges, that I might break the brotherhood bein Y'hudah u'vein Yisra'el.

11:15 Vayomer YHWH to me, "Take for yourself yet again the equipment of a foolish ro'eh.  16 Ki hinneh, I will raise up a ro'eh ba-aretz, who will not visit those who are cut off, neither will seek those who are scattered, nor heal that which is broken, nor feed that which is sound; but he will eat the meat of the fat sheep, and will tear their hoofs in pieces.
17 Hoy to the worthless ro`i who leaves the flock!
The sword will be on his arm, and on his right eye.
His arm will be completely withered, and his right eye will be totally blinded!"

12:1 A burden.[♦]D'var YHWH `al-Yisra'el.  YHWH, who stretches out shamayim, and lays the foundation of aretz, and forms ruach-adam within him says:  2 "Hinneh, I will make Y'rushalaim a cup of reeling to kol ha-`amim around, and it will also be on Y'hudah in the siege `al-Y'rushalaim.  3 V'hayah v'yom ha-hu, that I will make Y'rushalaim a burdensome stone l'khol ha-`amim.  All who burden themselves with it will be severely wounded, and kol goyei ha-aretz will be gathered together against it.  4 Ba-yom ha-hu," n'um YHWH, "I will strike every horse with terror, and his rider with madness; and I will open my eyes `al-beit Y'hudah, and will strike every horse of the peoples with blindness.  5 Allufei Y'hudah will say in their heart, 'The inhabitants of Y'rushalaim are my strength ba-YHWH Ts'va'ot Eloheihem.'

12:6 Ba-yom ha-hu I will make allufei Y'hudah like a pan of fire among wood, and like a flaming torch among sheaves; and they will devour kol ha-`amim around, on the right hand and on the left; and Y'rushalaim will yet again dwell in their own place, b'Y'rushalaim.

12:7 YHWH also will save ohalei Y'hudah ba-rishonah, that the glory of beit David and the glory of the inhabitants of Y'rushalaim not be magnified above Y'hudah.  8 Ba-yom ha-hu, YHWH will defend the inhabitants of Y'rushalaim.  He who is feeble among them ba-yom ha-hu will be like David, u'veit David will be like elohim, like mal'akh YHWH before them.  9 V'hayah b'yom ha-hu, that I will seek to destroy kol ha-goyim that come against Y'rushalaim.  10 I will pour `al-beit David, and on the inhabitants of Y'rushalaim, the ruach of grace and of supplication; and they will look to me whom they have pierced;[A] and they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for his only son, and will grieve bitterly for him, as one grieves for his only (son).  11 Ba-yom ha-hu there will be a great mourning b'Y'rushalaim, like the mourning of Hadadrimmon [prob. a heathen god] in the valley of M'giddon.  12 Ha-aretz will mourn, mishpachot mishpachot apart; mishpachat beit David apart, and their nashim apart; mishpachat beit Natan apart, and their nashim apart;  13 mishpachat beit Levi apart, and nashim apart; mishpachat ha-Shim`i apart, and their nashim apart;  14 kol ha-mishpachot who remain, mishpachot mishpachot apart, and their nashim apart.

CHAPTER 13

13:1 "Ba-yom ha-hu there will be a spring opened l'veit David and to the inhabitants of Y'rushalaim, l'chattat u'l'niddah.

13:2 V'hayah va-yom ha-hu, n'um YHWH Ts'va'ot, that I will cut off the names of the idols min-ha-aretz, and they will be remembered no more.  I will also cause ha-n'vi'im v'et ruach ha-tum'ah of impurity to pass out min-ha-aretz.  3 V'hayah that, when anyone still prophesies, then his father and his mother who bore him will tell him, 'You must die, because you speak lies b'shem YHWH;' and his father and his mother who bore him will stab him when he prophesies.  4 V'hayah ba-yom ha-hu, that ha-n'vi'im will each be ashamed of his vision, when he prophesies; neither will they wear a hairy mantle to deceive:  5 but he will say, 'Lo navi anokhi, a tiller of adamah anokhi; for I have been made a bondservant from my youth.'  6 One will say to him, 'What are these wounds between your hands?'  Then he will answer, 'Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.'

7 "Awake, sword, against my ro`eh,
and against the man who is close to me," n'um YHWH Ts'va'ot.
"Strike ha-ro`eh, and the sheep will be scattered;
and I will turn my hand against the little ones.
8 V'hayah v'khol ha-aretz," n'um YHWH,
"two parts in it will be cut off and die;
but the third will be left in it.
9 I will bring the third part ba-esh,
and will refine them as kesef is refined,
and will test them like ha-zahav is tested.
They will call on my name, and I will hear them.
I will say, '`Ami hu;'
and they will say, 'YHWH Elohai.' "

CHAPTER 14

14:1 Hinneh, yom ba la-YHWH, when your plunder will be divided within you.  2 For I will gather kol ha-goyim el-Y'rushalaim to battle; and ha-`ir will be taken, ha-batim rifled, v'ha-nashim ravished.  Half of ha-`ir will go out into captivity, and the rest of ha-`am will not be cut off min-ha-`ir.  3 Then YHWH will go out and fight ba-goyim ha-hem, as when he fought in the day of battle.  4 His feet will stand ba-yom ha-hu `al-Har ha-Zetim asher `al-p'nei Y'rushalaim on the east; and Har ha-Zetim will be split in two, from east to west, making a gei g'dolah me'od.  Half of ha-har will move tsafon, and half of it negev.  5 You shall flee by gei ha-har; ki gei-harim shall reach el-Atzal; yes, you shall flee, just like you fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziyah, melekh Y'hudah.  YHWH Elohai will come, kol-k'doshim with you.

14:6 V'hayah ba-yom ha-hu, that there will not be light, cold, or frost.  7 V'hayah yom echad which is known la-YHWH; lo-yom v'lo-lailah; v'hayah, that at erev there will be or.

14:8 V'hayah ba-yom ha-hu, that mayim chayyim (will go out) mi'Y'rushalaim: half toward ha-yam ha-kadmoni, and half el-ha-yam ha-acharon.  In summer and in winter shall it be.

14:9 V'hayah YHWH l'Melekh `al-kol-ha-aretz.  Ba-yom ha-hu, YHWH will be echad u'sh'mo echad.

14:10 Kol ha-aretz will be made like ha-`Aravah, mi-Geva l'Rimmon, negev Y'rushalaim; and she will be lifted up, and will dwell in her place, from the gate of Binyamin to the place of the first gate, to the corner gate, u'migdal Chanan'el to the wine presses of ha-melekh.  11 Men will dwell therein, and there will be no more curse; but Y'rushalaim will dwell safely.

14:12 This will be the plague with which YHWH will strike et-kol-ha-`amim who have fought against Y'rushalaim: their basar will consume away while they stand on their feet, and their eyes will consume away in their sockets, and their tongue will consume away in their mouth.  13 V'hayah ba-yom ha-hu, that a great panic from YHWH will be among them; and they will each hold onto the hand of his neighbor, and his hand will rise up against the hand of his neighbor.  14 Y'hudah also will fight at Y'rushalaim; and the wealth of kol-ha-goyim around will be gathered together: zahav va-khesef and clothing in great abundance.  15 And so shall be the plague of the horse, the mule, ha-gamal v'ha-chamor, v'khol-ha-b'hemah that will be in those camps, as this plague.

14:16 V'hayah that everyone remaining mi-kol-ha-goyim that came `al-Y'rushalaim will go up shanah v'shanah to worship ha-Melekh, YHWH Ts'va'ot, and to keep Chag ha-Sukkot.  17 V'hayah, that whoever of mishpachot ha-aretz doesn't go el-Y'rushalaim to worship ha-Melekh, YHWH Ts'va'ot, on them there will be no rain.  18 V'im mishpachat Mitzrayim doesn't go up, and doesn't come, neither will it rain on them.  This will be the plague with which YHWH will strike ha-goyim that don't go up to keep Chag ha-Sukkot.  19 This will be the punishment of Mitzrayim, and the punishment of kol-ha-goyim that don't go up to keep Chag ha-Sukkot.

14:20 Ba-yom ha-hu there will be on the bells of the horses, "KODESH LA-YHWH"; and the pots b'veit YHWH will be like the bowls lif'nei ha-mizbeach.  21 Yes, every pot in Y'rushalaim u'v'Y'hudah, (will be) kodesh la-YHWH Ts'va'ot; and all those who sacrifice will come and take of them, and cook in them.  There will no longer be a K'na`ani [or trader] b'veit YHWH Ts'va'ot ba-yom ha-hu.
