CHAPTER 1

1:1 Elohim, having in the past spoken el-ha-avot through ha-N'vi'im at many times and in various ways,  2 has b'acharit ha-yamim ha-eleh spoken to us by b'no, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made ha`olamim.  3 B'no is the radiance of his kavod, the very image1-3 of his substance, and upholding all things by ha-davar of his power, when he had by himself made purification for our chata'im, sat down on the right hand of ha-G'dullah ba-marom;  4 having become so much better than ha-malakhim, as he has inherited a more excellent name than they have.

1:5 For to which of ha-malakhim did he say at any time, "You are B'ni; Today have I become Avikha?"[A] and again, "I will be to him Av, and he will be to me Ben?"[B]6 When he again brings the firstborn into the world he says, "Let kol malakhei Elohim worship him."[C]7 Of ha-malakhim he says, "Who makes his malakhim ruchot, and his ministers a flame of fire."[D] 8 but of ha-Ben, "Your kiseh is from Elohim;1-8 it is `olam va`ed; the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your malkhut.9 You have loved tz'dakah, and hated iniquity; therefore Elohim, your Elohim, has anointed you with shemen sason above your fellows.[E]10 And, "You, Adonai, in the beginning, laid the foundation of ha-aretz.  Shamayim are the ma`asim of your hands.11 They will perish, but you continue.  They all will grow old like a garment does.12 As a mantle you will roll them up.  And they will be changed.  But you are the same.  Your years will not fail."[F]13 But of which of ha-malakhim has he said at any time, "Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet?"[G]14 Aren't they all ministering ruchot, sent forth to do service for the sake of those who will inherit yeshu`ah?

CHAPTER 2

2:1 Therefore, we ought to pay greater attention to the things that were heard, lest perhaps we drift away.  2 For if ha-davar spoken through malakhim proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense;  3 how will we escape, if we neglect so great a yeshu`ah -- which at the first having been spoken through Adonai, was confirmed to us by those who heard;  4 Elohim also bearing `edut with them, both by otot and wonders, and by various ma`asim of power, and by gifts of Ruach ha-Kodesh, according to his own will?

2:5 For he didn't subject the coming habitable world, whereof we speak, to malakhim.  6 But one has somewhere testified, saying, "What is man, that you think of him?  Or ben adam, that you care for him? 7 You made him a little lower than elohim;2-7 you crowned him with kavod and honor.8 You have put all things in subjection under his feet."[A]  For in that he subjected all things to him, he left nothing that is not subject to him.  But now we don't see all things subjected to him, yet.  9 But we see him who has been made a little lower than ha-malakhim, Yeshua, because of the suffering of death crowned with kavod and honor, that by ha-chesed Elohim he should taste of ha-mavet for everyone.

2:10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things[B]. , in bringing banim rabim to kavod, to make the author of their yeshu`ah perfect through sufferings.  11 For both he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one, for which cause he is not ashamed to call them achim,  12 saying, "I will declare your name to my achim, in the midst of ha-qahal will I sing your praise."[C]13 Again, "I will put my trust in him."[D] Again, "Behold, here am I and ha-y'ladim whom Elohim has given me."[E]

2:14 Since then ha-y'ladim have shared basar va-dam, he also himself in like manner partook of the same, that through ha-mavet he might bring to nothing him who had the power of ha-mavet, that is, ha-malshin,  15 and might deliver all of them who through fear of ha-mavet were all their lifetime subject to bondage.  16 For most assuredly, not to malakhim does he give help, but he gives help b'zera Avraham.  17 Therefore, he was obligated in all things to be made like his achim, that he might become a merciful and faithful Kohen Gadol in things pertaining to Elohim, to make kapporet for chattot ha-am.  18 For in that he himself has suffered being tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted.

CHAPTER 3

3:1 Therefore, achai ha-k'doshim, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider ha-Shaliach v'Khohen ha-Gadol of our confession, Yeshua;  2 who was ne'eman to him who appointed him, as also was Mosheh b'khol beito.  3 For he has been counted worthy of more kavod than Mosheh, by so much as he who built ha-bayit has more kavod than ha-bayit.  4 Ki khol bayit is built by someone; but he who built all things is Elohim.  5 Mosheh indeed was ne'eman in all his bayit as an `eved, for an `edut of those things which were afterward to be spoken,  6 but Mashiach hu ha-Ben, over his bayit; whose bayit are we, if we hold fast our boldness and the glorying of our tikvah firm `ad-ha-qetz.

3:7 Therefore, even as Ruach ha-Kodesh says, "Today if you will hear his voice,  8 don't harden your l'vavot, as at Merivah,3-8 as in yom Massah3-8 ba-midbar,9 Where avoteikhem tested me by proving me, and saw my ma`asim for forty years.10 Therefore, I was displeased with that generation, and said, 'They always err in their lev, but they didn't know my d'rakhim;'  11 as I swore in my wrath, 'They will not enter into my rest.'"[A]12 Beware, achim, lest perhaps there will be in any one of you a lev ra of unbelief, in falling away from Elohim chayyim;  13 but exhort one another yom yom, so long as it is called "ha-yom;" lest any one of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of chet.  14 For we have become partakers of Mashiach, if we hold fast the beginning of our confidence firm to the end:  15 while it is said, "Ha-yom if you will hear his voice, don't harden your l'vavot, as at Massah.[♦]"  16 For who, when they heard, did provoke?  No, didn't all those who came out of Mitzrayim b'yad Mosheh?  17 With whom was he displeased forty years?  Wasn't it with those who sinned, whose bodies fell ba-midbar?  18 To whom did he swear that they should not enter into his rest, but to those who were disobedient?  19 We see that they were not able to enter in because of unbelief.

[A] (7-11) Ps. 95:7-11.

PEREQ ‏ד‎
CHAPTER 4

4:1 Let us fear, therefore, lest perhaps a promise being left of entering into his rest, anyone of you should seem to have come short of it.  2 For indeed we have had b'sorah preached to us, even as also they, but ha-davar of hearing did not profit them, because it was not mixed with emunah by those who heard.  3 For we who have believed do enter into that rest, even as he has said, "As I swore in my wrath, They will not enter into my rest;"[A] although the ma`asim were finished from the foundation of ha`olam.  4 For he has said somewhere about the seventh day like this, "Elohim rested `al-ha-yom ha-sh'vi'i from all his ma`asim;" [B]5 and in this place again, "They will not enter into my rest."[A]6 Seeing therefore it remains that some should enter therein, and they to whom ha-B'sorah was before preached failed to enter in because of disobedience,  7 he again defines a certain day, ha-yom, saying through David so long a time afterward (just as has been said), "Ha-yom if you will hear his voice, don't harden your l'vavot."[C]8 For if Yehoshua had given them rest, he would not have spoken afterward of another day.  9 There remains, therefore, a Shabbat l`am Elohim.  10 For he who has entered into his rest has himself also rested from his ma`asim, as Elohim did from his.

4:11 Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, that no man fall after the same example of disobedience.  12 For d'var ha-Elohim chai, and is active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing bein nefesh la-ruach, of both joints and marrow, and quick to discern the thoughts and intents of ha-lev.  13 There is no creature that is hidden from his sight, but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

4:14 Having, then, a Kohen Rosh Gadol, who has passed through ha-shamayim, Yeshua, Ben ha-Elohim, let us hold tightly to our confession.  15 For we don't have a Kohen Gadol who can't be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but one who has been in all points tempted like we are, yet without chet.  16 Let us, therefore, draw near with boldness to kiseh chesed, that we may receive mercy, and may find chesed for timely help.

[A] (3, 5) Ps. 95:11.  [B] (4) Gen. 2:2.  [C] (7) Ps. 95:7,8.

PEREQ ‏ה‎
CHAPTER 5

5:1 For kol Kohen Gadol, being taken from among b'nei adam, is appointed for b'nei adam in things pertaining to Elohim, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for chatta'im.  2 He (Kohen Gadol) can deal gently with those who are ignorant and going astray, because he himself is also surrounded with weakness.  3 Because of this, he must offer sacrifices for chattot for the people, as well as for himself.  4 No one takes this honor on himself, but he is called by Elohim, just like Aharon was.

5:5 So also Mashiach didn't glorify himself to be made a Kohen Gadol, but he who said to him, "You are B'ni.  Ha-yom I have begotten you."[A]6 As he says also in another place, "You are a Kohen l`olam, after the order of Malki-Tzedek."[B]

5:7 Who, in the days of his basar, having offered up t'fillot and petitions with strong crying and tears to him who was able to save him mi-mavet, and having been heard for his yirah,  8 though he was a Ben, yet learned obedience by the things which he suffered;  9 and having been made perfect, he became to all of those who obey him the author of yeshuat `olam,  10 named by Elohim a Kohen Gadol after the order of Malki-Tzedek.

5:11 Of whom we have many d'varim to say, and hard to interpret, seeing you have become dull of hearing.  12 For when, by reason of the time, you ought to be morim, you again need to have someone teach you the rudiments of the first principles of Torat Elohim.  You have come to need milk, and not solid food.  13 For everyone who lives on milk is not experienced in davar tz'dakah, for he is a baby.  14 But solid food is for full grown men, those who, by reason of use, have their senses exercised to discern tov va-ra.

[A] (5) Ps. 2:7.  [B] (6) Ps. 110:4.

PEREQ ‏ו‎
CHAPTER 6

6:1 Therefore, leaving reishit d'var Mashiach, let us press on to perfection -- not laying again a foundation of t'shuvah mi-ma`asei mavet, of emunah b'Elohim,  2 of the teaching of immersions, of laying on of hands, of t'chiyat ha-metim, and of mishpat `olam.  3 This will we do, if Elohim permits.  4 For concerning those who were once enlightened and tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of Ruach ha-Kodesh,  5 and tasted d'var Elohim ha-tov, and the powers of ha-olam haba,  6 and then fell away, it is impossible to renew them again to t'shuvah; seeing they execute Ben ha-Elohim for themselves again, and put him to open shame.  7 For ha-aretz which has drunk the rain that comes often on it, and brings forth a crop suitable for them for whose sake it is also tilled, receives blessing from Elohim;  8 but if it bears thorns and thistles, it is rejected and near a curse, whose end is to be burned.

6:9 But, beloved, we are persuaded of better things for you, and things that accompany yeshu`ah, though we speak like this,  10 for Elohim is not unrighteous, so as to forget your ma`asim and the labor of ahavah which you showed toward his name, in that you served ha-k'doshim, and still do serve them.  11 We desire that each one of you may show the same diligence to the fullness of tikvah even to the end,  12 that you won't be sluggish, but imitators of those who, through emunah v'savlanut, inherited the promises.

6:13 For when Elohim made a promise to Avraham, since he could swear by none greater, he swore by himself,  14 saying, "Most surely I will bless you, and I will surely multiply you.[A] "  15 Thus, having patiently endured, he obtained the promise.  16 For b'nei adam indeed swear by a greater one, and in every dispute of theirs the oath is final for confirmation.  17 Wherein Elohim, being determined to show more abundantly to the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, interposed with an oath;  18 that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for Elohim to lie, we may have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to take hold of ha-tikvah set before us,  19 which (hope) we have as an anchor of ha-nefesh, both sure and steadfast and entering into that which is within ha-parokhet;  20 where, as a forerunner, Yeshua entered for us, having become a Kohen Gadol l`olam after the order of Malki-Tzedek.

[A] (14) Gen. 22:17.

PEREQ ‏ז‎
CHAPTER 7

7:1 For this Malki-Tzedek, melekh Shalem, Kohen l'El `Elyon, who met Avraham returning from the slaughter of ha-m'lakhim and blessed him,  2 to whom also Avraham divided a tenth part of all; being first, by interpretation, Melekh ha-Tzedek, and then also Melekh Shalem, which is Melekh shalom;  3 without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like Ben ha-Elohim, remains a Kohen l`olam.

7:4 Now consider how great this one was, to whom even Avraham avinu, gave a tenth out of the best spoils.  5 They indeed of b'nei Levi who receive ha-k'hunnah have a mitzvah to take tithes of the people according to ha-Torah, that is, of their achim, though these have come out of the loins of Avraham,  6 but he whose genealogy is not counted from them has taken tithes of Avraham, and has blessed him who has the promises.  7 But without any dispute the less is blessed of the better.  8 Here b'nei adam who die receive tithes, but there one, of whom it is testified that he lives.  9 So to say, through Avraham even Levi, who receives tithes, has paid tithes,  10 for he was yet in the loins of aviv when Malki-Tzedek met him.

7:11 Now if there was perfection through the Levitical k'hunnah (for under it have the people received ha-Torah), what further need was there for another Kohen to arise after the order of Malki-Tzedek, and not be called after the order of Aharon?  12 For ha-k'hunnah being changed, there is of necessity a change made also of ha-Torah.  13 For he of whom these things are said belongs to another tribe, from which no man has given attendance at ha-mizbeach.  14 For it is evident that Adoneinu has sprung out of Y'hudah, as to which tribe Mosheh spoke nothing concerning k'hunnah.

7:15 This is yet more abundantly evident, if after the likeness of Malki-Tzedek there arises another Kohen,  16 who has been made, not after ha-Torah of a fleshly mitzvah, but after the power of an endless life:  17 for it is testified, "You are a Kohen l'olam, according to the order of Malki-Tzedek."  18 For there is an annulling of a foregoing mitzvah because of its weakness and uselessness  19 (for ha-Torah made nothing perfect), and a bringing in thereupon of a better tikvah, through which we draw near to Elohim.

7:20 Inasmuch as it is not without the taking of an oath,  21 for they indeed have been made Kohanim without an oath; but he with an oath by him that says of him, "Ha-Adon swore and will not change his mind, 'You are a Kohen l'olam, according to the order of Malki-Tzedek'".[A]22 By so much has Yeshua become the collateral of a better b'rit.

7:23 Many, indeed, have been made Kohanim, because they are hindered from continuing by ha-mavet.  24 But he, because he remains l'olam, has his k'hunnah unchangeable.  25 Therefore, he is also able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to Elohim through him, seeing he ever lives to make intercession for them.

7:26 For such a Kohen Gadol was fitting for us: kadosh, guiltless, undefiled, separated from chatta'im, and made higher than ha-shamayim;  27 who doesn't need, like those Kohanim G'dolim, to daily offer up sacrifices, first for his own chatta'im, and then for those of ha`am.  For this he did once for all, when he offered up himself.  28 For ha-Torah appoints b'nei adam Kohanim G'dolim, having infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was after ha-Torah, appoints a Ben, perfected l`olam.

[A] (21) Ps. 110:4.

PEREQ ‏ח‎
CHAPTER 8

Now in the things which we are saying, the main point is this.  We have such a Kohen Gadol, who sat down on the right hand of ha-kiseh G'dullah ba-shamayim,  2 a minister of ha-Kodesh, and of mishkan emet, which Adonai pitched, not ben adam.  3 For kol Kohen Gadol is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices.  Therefore, it is necessary that this One also have something to offer.  4 For if he were on ha-aretz, he would not be a Kohen at all, seeing there are Kohanim who offer the gifts according to ha-Torah;  5 who serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things, even as Mosheh was warned by Elohim when he was about to make ha-mishkan, for, "See," he said, "that you make all things according to the pattern that was shown you ba-har."[A]6 But now he has obtained a more excellent ministry, by so much as he is also the mediator of a better b'rit, which has been enacted on better promises.  7 For if that first (covenamt) had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second.

8:8 For finding fault with them, he said, "Hinneh, the days come," says YHWH, "that I will cut a b'rit chadashah with beit Yisra'el and with beit Y'hudah;9 Not according to ha-b'rit that I cut with avotam, ba-yom that I took them by the hand to lead them forth me-eretz Mitzrayim; for they didn't continue in my b'rit, and I disregarded them," says YHWH.10 "For zot ha-b'rit that I will cut with beit Yisra'el.  Acharei ha-yamim ha-hem," says YHWH; "I will put my Torah into their mind, I will also write it on their l'vavot.  I will be to them an Elohim, and they will be to me a people.11 They will not teach every ish his neighbor, every ish his ach, saying, 'Know YHWH,' for all will know me, from the least of them to the greatest of them.12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness.  I will remember their chatta'im and Torah-less deeds no more."[B]13 In that he says, "chadashah," he has made the first old.  But that which is becoming old and grows aged is near to vanishing away.

PEREQ ‏ט‎
CHAPTER 9

9:1 Now indeed even the first [covenant? tabernacle?] had mishpatim of service, and an earthly mikdash.  2 For there was a mishkan prepared, the first, in which were ha-m'norah, ha-shulchan, v'lechem ha-panim; which is called ha-Kodesh.  3 After the second parokhet, mishkan called Kodesh ha-Kadashim,  4 having mizbeach zahav of incense, and aron ha-b'rit overlaid on all sides with zahav, in which was a pot of zahav holding ha-man, the rod of Aharon that budded, and the tablets of ha-b'rit;  5 and above it k'ruvei ha-kavod overshadowing ha-kapporet, of which things we cannot now speak in detail.

9:6 Now these having been thus prepared, ha-Kohanim go into the first mishkan through all, accomplishing the services,  7 but into the second, ha-Kohen ha-Gadol alone, achat ba-shanah, not without blood, which he offers for himself, and for the errors of ha-am.  8 Ruach ha-Kodesh is signifying this, that the way into Kodesh ha-Kadashim has not yet been revealed, while the first mishkan is yet standing;  9 which is an illustration of the present time, where gifts and z'vachim are offered that are incapable, concerning the conscience, of making the worshipper perfect;  10 being only (with meats and drinks and various washings) mishpatim basar, imposed until a time of reformation.

9:11 But Mashiach having come as a Kohen Gadol of the coming good things, through the greater and more perfect mishkan not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation,  12 nor yet through the blood of goats and calves, but through his own blood, entered in once for all into ha-Kodesh, having obtained g'ullat `olam.  13 For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled, sanctify to the cleanness of ha-basar:  14 how much more will dam ha-Mashiach, who through Ruach `olam offered himself without blemish to Elohim, cleanse your conscience from ma`asei mavet to serve Elohim ha-chayyim?

9:15 For this cause he is the mediator of a b'rit chadashah, that a death having taken place for the redemption of the transgressions that were under b'rit ha-rishon, those who have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.  16 For where a b'rit is, there must of necessity be the death of him who made it.  17 For a b'rit is in force where there has been death, for it is never in force while he who made it lives.  18 Therefore even b'rit ha-rishon has not been dedicated without blood.  19 For when kol mitzvah had been spoken by Mosheh l'kol ha`am et-kol mishpatei ha-Torah, he took ha-dam of the calves and the goats, with mayim and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled ha-sefer v'kol ha`am,  20 saying, "Zeh ha-dam ha-b'rit which Elohim commanded toward you."[A]21 Moreover, he sprinkled ha-mishkan and all the vessels of the ministry in like manner with ha-dam.  22 `Al-pi ha-Torah, nearly everything is cleansed with dam, and apart from shedding of dam there is no remission.

9:23 It was necessary, therefore, that the copies of the things ba-shamayim should be cleansed with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.  24 For Mashiach entered not into a Kodesh made with hands, similar in pattern to the true, but into ha-shamayim itself, now to appear lifnei Elohim for us;  25 nor yet that he should offer himself often, as ha-Kohen ha-Gadol goes shanah b'shanah el-ha-Kodesh b'dam acherim,  26 or else he must have suffered often since the foundation of ha`olam.  But now once b'ketz ha`olam, he has been revealed to put away chet by the sacrifice of himself.  27 Inasmuch as it is appointed for b'nei adam once to die, and after this, mishpat,  28 so Mashiach also, having been once offered to bear chata'ei rabbim, will appear a second time, without chet, to those who are eagerly waiting for him for yeshu`ah.

[A] (20) Ex. 24:8.

PEREQ ‏י‎
CHAPTER 10

10:1 Ki ha-Torah, having a shadow of the good to come, not the very image of the things, can never with the same sacrifices shanah b'shanah, which they offer continually, make perfect those who draw near.  2 Or else wouldn't they have ceased to be offered, because the worshippers, having been once cleansed, would have had no more consciousness of chatta'im?  3 But in these (sacrifices), there is a memory made of chatta'im shanah b'shanah.  4 For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away chatta'im.

10:5 Therefore, when he comes la`olam, he says, "Zevach u'minchah you didn't desire, but a body did you prepare for me;  6 In whole `olot and (sacrifices) for chet you had no pleasure.7 Then I said, 'Hinneh, I have come (bi'm'gillat sefer it is written of me) to do your will, Elohim.'"   8 Saying above, "Zevach u'minchah, `olah v'chatta'ah you didn't desire, neither had pleasure in them" (those which are offered `al-pi ha-Torah),  9 then has he said, "Hinneh, I have come to do your will."[A]  He takes away the first, that he may establish the second,  10 by which will we have been sanctified through korban guf Yeshua ha-Mashiach once for all.

10:11 Kol Kohen indeed stands yom yom ministering and often offering the same korbanot, which can never take away chatta'im,  12 but he, when he had offered zevach echad `al-ha-chatta'im ad`olam, sat down on the right hand of Elohim;  13 henceforth expecting until his enemies are made the footstool of his feet.[B]14 For by korban echad he has perfected in perpetuity those who are being sanctified.  15 Ruach ha-Kodesh also testifies to us, for after he has said,  16 "Zot ha-b'rit that I will make with them: 'Acharit ha-yamim ha-hem,' amar YHWH, 'I will put my Torah on their l'vavot, I will also write them on their mind;'" then,  17 "I will remember their chatta'im and their iniquities no more."[C]18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more korban `al-ha-chet.

10:19 Having therefore, achim, boldness to enter into ha-Kodesh b'dam Yeshua,  20 by the way which he dedicated for us, a derekh chadash v'chai, through ha-parokhet, that is to say, his basar;  21 and having a Kohen Gadol `al-Beit Elohim;  22 let us draw near with a true heart in fullness of emunah, having our l'vavot sprinkled from an evil conscience, and having our body washed with mayim t'horim,  23 let us hold fast the confession of our tikvah unyieldingly.  For he who promised is ne'eman.  24 Let us consider how to provoke one another l'ahavah u'l'ma`asim tovim,  25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as you see ha-Yom approaching.

10:26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of ha-emet, there remains no more a sacrifice for chatta'im,  27 but a certain fearful expectation of mishpat, and a fierceness of fire which will devour the adversaries.[D]28 Ben adam who has set at nothing Torat Mosheh dies without compassion on ha-davar of two or three `edim.  29 How much worse punishment, do you think, will he be judged worthy of, who has trodden under foot Ben ha-Elohim, and has counted dam ha-b'rit with which he was sanctified an unholy thing, and has insulted Ruach he-chased?  30 For we know him who said, "Vengeance belongs to me," says YHWH, "I will repay." Again, "YHWH will judge `amo."[E]31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of Elohim chayyim.

10:32 But remember ha-yamim ha-rishonim, in which, after you were enlightened, you endured a great struggle with sufferings;  33 partly being exposed to both reproaches and oppressions; and partly becoming partakers with those who were treated so.  34 For you both had compassion on me in my chains, and joyfully accepted the plundering of your possessions, knowing that you have for yourselves a better possession and an enduring one in ha-shamayim.  35 Therefore, don't throw away your boldness, which has a great reward.  36 For you need patience, so that, having done the will of Elohim, you may receive the promise.  37 "For yet a very little while, ha-ba yavo, and will not wait.  38 But ha-tzaddik will live by emunah.[F]  If he shrinks back, my nefesh has no pleasure in him."  39 But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have emunah to the saving of ha-nefesh.

11:1 Now emunah is assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen.  2 For by this, ha-Z'qenim obtained `edut.  3 By emunah, we understand that ha`olamot have been framed by d'var ha-Elohim, so that what is seen has not been made out of things which are visible.

11:4 By emunah, Hevel offered to Elohim a more excellent sacrifice than Kayin, through which he had `edut given to him ki tzaddik hu, Elohim bearing `ed with respect to his gifts; and through it he, being dead, still speaks.  5 By emunah, Chanokh was changed, so that he should not see ha-mavet, and he was not found, because Elohim changed him.  For he has had `edut given to him that before his change he had been well pleasing to Elohim.  6 Without emunah it is impossible to be well pleasing to him, for he who comes to Elohim must believe that he exists, and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him.  7 By emunah, Noach, being warned by Elohim about things not yet seen, moved with yirah, prepared a tevah for the saving of his bayit, through which he condemned ha`olam, and became heir of ha-tz'dakah which is according to emunah.

11:8 By emunah, Avraham, when he was called, obeyed to go out to the place which he was to receive for an inheritance.  He went out, not knowing where he went.  9 By emunah, he lived as a ger b'eretz of promise, as in an eretz not his own, dwelling in ohalim, with Yitzchak v'Ya`akov, the heirs with him of the same promise.  10 For he looked for ha`ir which has the foundations, whose builder and maker is Elohim.  11 By emunah, even Sarah herself received power to conceive zera, and gave birth when she was past age, since she counted him ne'eman who had promised.  12 Therefore, they were fathered by one, and him as good as dead, (as many) k'khokhvei ha-shamayim in multitude, and as innumerable as the sand which is by the sea shore.

11:13 These all died in emunah, not having received the promises, but having seen them and embraced them from afar, and having confessed that they were gerim and pilgrims on ha-aretz.  14 For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking after a country of their own.  15 If indeed they had been thinking of that country from which they went out, they would have had enough time to return.  16 But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one.  Therefore, Elohim is not ashamed of them, to be called their Elohim, for he has prepared a city for them.

11:17 By emunah, Avraham, being tested, offered up Yitzchak.  Yes, he who had gladly received the promises was offering up his only begotten;  18 even he to whom it was said, "B'Yitzchak will your zera be called;"[A]19 accounting that Elohim is able to raise up, even ha-metim.  Figuratively speaking, he also did receive him back from ha-metim.  20 By emunah, Yitzchak blessed Ya'akov v'et`Esav, even concerning things to come.  21 By emunah, Ya'akov, when he was dying, blessed each of b'nei Yosef, and worshiped, leaning on the top of his staff.  22 By emunah, Yosef, when his end was near, made mention of the departure of b'nei Yisra'el; and gave instructions concerning his bones.[♦]

11:23 By emunah, Mosheh, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that he was a yeled yafeh, and they were not afraid of mitzvat ha-melekh.  24 By emunah, Mosheh, when he had grown up, refused to be called ben bat Par'oh,  25 choosing rather to share ill treatment with `am Elohim, than to enjoy the pleasures of chet for a time;  26 accounting the reproach of Mashiach greater riches than the treasures of Mitzrayim; for he looked to the reward.  27 By emunah, he left Mitzrayim, not fearing the wrath of ha-melekh; for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.  28 By emunah, he kept ha-Pesach, and the sprinkling of ha-dam, that the destroyer of the firstborn should not touch them.

11:29 By emunah, they passed through Yam Suf as by dry land.  When Mitzrayim tried to do so, they were swallowed up.  30 By emunah, the walls of Y'richo fell down, after they had been encircled for shiv'at yamim.  31 By emunah, Rachav, the prostitute, didn't perish with those who were disobedient, having received the spies in shalom.

11:32 What will I more say?  For the time will fail me if I tell of Gid'on u'Varak v'Shimshon v'Yiftach v'David u'Sh'mu'el v'ha-n'vi'im;  33 who, through emunah, subdued mamlakhot, worked out tz'dakah, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,  34 quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, grew mighty in war, and turned to flight armies of aliens.  35 Nashim received ha-metim by t'chiyah.  Others were tortured, not accepting their deliverance, that they might obtain a better t'chiyah.  36 Others were tried by mocking and scourging, yes, moreover by bonds and imprisonment.  37 They were stoned.  They were sawn apart.  They were tempted.  They were slain with the sword.  They went around in sheepskins, in goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated  38 (of whom ha`olam was not worthy), wandering ba-midbar and harim and caves, and the holes of ha-aretz.

11:39 V'khol eleh, having had `edut given to them through their emunah, didn't receive the promise,  40 Elohim having provided some better thing concerning us, so that apart from us they should not be made perfect.

CHAPTER 12

12:1 Therefore let us also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of `edim, lay aside every weight and ha-chet which so easily entangles us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,  2 looking to Yeshua, the author and perfecter of emunah, who for ha-simchah that was set before him endured the stake, despising shame, and has sat down at the right hand of kiseh ha-Elohim.

12:3 For consider him who has endured such contradiction of chatta'im against himself, that you don't grow weary, fainting in your nafshot.  4 You have not yet resisted la-dam, striving against chet;  5 and you have forgotten the exhortation which reasons with you as with banim, "B'ni, don't take lightly the chastening of YHWH, nor faint when you are reproved by him;6 For whom YHWH loves, he chastens, and scourges every son whom he receives."[A]7 It is for discipline that you endure.  Elohim deals with you as with banim, for what ben is there whom aviv doesn't discipline?  8 But if you are without discipline, whereof all have been made partakers, then are you illegitimate, and not banim.  9 Furthermore, we had avot of our basar to chasten us, and we paid them respect.  Shall we not much rather be in subjection to avi ha-ruchot, and live?  10 For they indeed, for a few days, punished us as seemed good to them; but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness.  11 All chastening seems for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yields p'ri shalom l'tz'dakah to those who have been exercised thereby.

12:12 Therefore, lift up the hands that hang down and the feeble knees,  13 and make straight paths for your feet, that that which is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed.  14 Follow after shalom with kol adam, and the sanctification without which no ish will see Adonai,  15 looking carefully lest there be any ish who falls short of chesed Elohim; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby the many be defiled;  16 lest there be any sexually immoral person, or profane person, as `Esav, who sold his birthright for one meal.  17 For you know that even when he afterward desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for a change of mind though he sought it diligently with tears.

12:18 For you have not come to a mountain that might be touched, and that burned with fire, and to blackness, darkness, tempest,  19 qol shofar u'l'qol ha-d'varim; which those who heard it begged that not one more word should be spoken to them,  20 for they could not stand that which was enjoined, "If even an animal touches ha-har, it shall be stoned or shot;"[B]21 and so fearful was the appearance, that Mosheh said, "I am terrified and trembling."[?]  22 But you have come el har Tziyon v'el`ir Elohim chayyim, el Yerushalayim shebashamayim, and to tens of thousands12-22 of malakhim,  23 to the general assembly and `edah of the firstborn who are enrolled ba-shamayim v'el-Elohim, Shofet ha-kol, v'el ruchot ha-tzaddikim made perfect,  24 to Yeshua, the mediator of ha-b'rit ha-chadashah, v'el dam of sprinkling that speaks better than that of Hevel.

12:25 See that you don't refuse him who speaks.  For if they didn't escape when they refused him who warned on ha-aretz, how much more will we not escape who turn away from him who warns min-ha-shamayim,  26 whose voice shook ha-aretz then, but now he has promised, saying, "Yet once more will I shake not only ha-aretz, but also ha-shamayim."[C]27 This phrase, "Yet once more," signifies the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that have been made, that those things which are not shaken may remain.  28 Therefore, receiving a malkhut that can't be shaken, let us have chesed, whereby we may offer service well pleasing to Elohim, with yirah and awe,  29 for Eloheinu is a consuming fire.

CHAPTER 13

1:1 Let love [phileo (13-1)] of the achim continue.  2 Don't forget to show hospitality to strangers, for in doing so, some have entertained malakhim without knowing.  3 Remember those who are in bonds, as bound with them; and those who are ill-treated, since you are also ba-guf.  4 Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled: but Elohim will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers.  5 Be free me-ahavat kesef, content with such things as you have, for he has said, "I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you."[A]6 So that with good courage we say, "Adonai is my helper.  I will not fear.  What will adam do to me?"[B]

13:7 Remember your leaders who spoke to you d'var ha-Elohim, and considering the results of their conduct, imitate their emunah.  8 Yeshua ha-Mashiach, yesterday and ha-yom the same, and l`olam va`ed.  9 Don't be carried away by various and strange torot, for it is good that ha-lev be established by chesed, not by food, through which those who were so occupied were not benefited.  10 We have a mizbeach from which those who serve ha-Mishkan have no right to eat.  11 For the bodies of those b'hemot, whose dam is brought ba-Kodesh by Kohen ha-Gadol as an offering for sin, are burned outside of the camp.  12 Therefore, Yeshua also, that he might sanctify ha-am through his own blood, suffered outside of the gate.  13 Let us, therefore, go forth to him outside of the camp, bearing his reproach.  14 For we don't have here an enduring city, but we seek that which is to come.  15 Through him, then, let us offer up a sacrifice of praise to Elohim continually, that is, the fruit of lips which make confession to his name.  16 But don't forget to be doing good and koinonia13-16, for with such sacrifices Elohim is well pleased.

13:17 Obey those who have the rule over you, and submit to them, for they watch on behalf of your nafshot, as those who will give account, that they may do this with simchah, and not with groaning, for that would be unprofitable for you.

13:18 Pray for us, for we are persuaded that we have a good conscience, desiring to live honorably in all things.  19 I strongly urge you to do this, that I may be restored to you sooner.

13:20 Now may Elohei ha-shalom, who brought again from ha-metim, b'dam b'rit `olam, Adoneinu Yeshua, Ro`eh ha-gadol of the sheep,  21 make you complete in kol ma`asei tov to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Yeshua ha-Mashiach, to whom be ha-kavod l`ol'mei `olamim.  Amein.

13:22 But I exhort you, achim, endure ha-davar of exhortation, for I have written to you in few d'varim.  23 Know that our brother Timotheos has been freed, with whom, if he comes shortly, I will see you.  24 Greet all of your leaders and all ha-k'doshim.  Those from Italia greet you.  25 Chesed be with you all.  Amein.
