CHAPTER 1
1:1 Sha'ul, ha-shaliach (lo mi-b'nei adam, v'lo `al-y'dei ben adam, ki im`al-y'dei Yeshua ha-Mashiach v'Elohim ha-Av, who raised him min-ha-metim),  2 v'khol ha-achim who are with me, el-ha`edot asher b'Galatia:

1:3 Chesed to you v'shalom me-et ha-Elohim Avinu, v'et Adoneinu Yeshua ha-Mashiach,  4 who gave himself for our chata'im, that he might deliver us out of the present `olam ha-ra ha-zeh, according to the will of Eloheinu Avinu --   5 to whom be ha-kavod l`olam `olamim.  Amein.

1:6 I marvel that you are so quickly deserting him who called you b'chesed ha-Mashiach to a different B'sorah;  7 and there isn't another B'sorah.  Only there are some who trouble you, and want to pervert B'sorat ha-Mashiach.  8 But even though we, or a malakh min ha-shamayim, should preach to you any B'sorah other than that which we preached to you, let him be anathema.  9 As we have said before, so I now say again: if any ben adam preaches to you any B'sorah other than that which you received, let him be anathema.

1:10 For am I now seeking the favor of b'nei adam or of ha-Elohim?  Or am I striving to please b'nei adam?  For if I were still pleasing b'nei adam, I would not be `eved ha-Mashiach.

1:11 But I make known to you, achim, concerning ha-B'sorah which was preached by me, that it is not according to ben adam.  12 For neither did I receive it from ben adam, nor was I taught it, but it came to me through hitgalut Yeshua ha-Mashiach.  13 For you have heard of my way of living in time past in the religion of ha-Y'hudim, how that beyond measure I persecuted ha`edat Elohim, and ravaged it.  14 I advanced in the religion of ha-Y'hudim beyond many of my own age among my countrymen, being more exceedingly zealous for kabbalot avotai.  15 But when it was the good pleasure of Elohim, who separated me from the womb of imi, and called me through his chesed,  16 to reveal B'no in me, that I might preach him among ha-goyim, I didn't immediately confer with basar va-dam,  17 nor did I go up to Yerushalayim to those who were shlichim before me, but I went away into `Arav.  Then I returned to Dammesek.

1:18 Then after three years I went up to Yerushalayim to visit Kefa, and stayed with him fifteen days.  19 But of the other shlichim I saw no one except Ya`akov, ach ha-Adon.  20 Now about the things which I write to you, hinneh, before Elohim, I'm not lying.  21 Then I came to the regions of Aram v'Kilikia.  22 I was still unknown by face to ha`edot Y'hudah asher ba-Mashiach,  23 but they only heard: "He who once persecuted us now preaches ha-emunah that he once tried to destroy."  24 They glorified Elohim in me.


CHAPTER 2
2:1 Then after a period of fourteen years I went up again to Yerushalayim `im Bar-Nabba, taking Titos also with me.  2 I went up by hitgalut, and I laid before them ha-B'sorah which I preach among ha-goyim, but privately before those who were respected, for fear that I might be running, or had run, in vain.  3 But not even Titos who was with me, being a Y'vani, was compelled to be circumcised.  4 This was because of the false achim secretly brought in, who stole in to spy out our liberty which we have in Mashiach Yeshua, that they might bring us into bondage;  5 to whom we gave no place in the way of subjection, not for an hour, that emet ha-B'sorah might continue with you.  6 But from those who were reputed to be important (whatever they were, it makes no difference to me; Elohim doesn't show partiality to ben adam) -- they, I say, who were respected imparted nothing to me,  7 but to the contrary, when they saw that I had been entrusted with ha-B'sorah for the uncircumcision,2-7 even as Kefa with ha-B'sorah for ha-mulah8 (for he who appointed Kefa li-sh'lichut ha-mulah appointed me also to ha-goyim);  9 and when they perceived ha-chesed that was given to me, Ya'akov v'Khefa v'Yochanan, they who were reputed to be pillars, gave to me and Bar-Nabba the right hand of koinonia 2-9, that we should go to ha-goyim, and they to ha-mulah.  10 They only asked us to remember the poor -- which very thing I was also zealous to do.

2:11 But when Kefa came to Antiocheia, I resisted him to the face, because he stood condemned.  12 For before some people came from Ya'akov, he ate with ha-goyim.  But when they came, he drew back and separated himself, fearing those of ha-mulah.  13 And the rest of ha-Y'hudim joined him in his hypocrisy; so much that even Bar-Nabba was carried away with their hypocrisy.  14 But when I saw that they didn't walk uprightly according to ha-emet B'sorah, I said to Kefa before them all, "If you, being a Y'hudi, live as ha-goyim do, and not as ha-Y'hudim do, why do you compel ha-goyim to live as ha-Y'hudim do?  15 "We, being Y'hudim by nature, and not chatta'im min ha-goyim,  16 yet knowing that a ben adam is not justified by ma`asei ha-Torah but through emunat Yeshua ha-Mashiach, even we believed in Mashiach Yeshua, that we might be justified by emunat Mashiach, and not by ma`asei ha-Torah, because no basar will be justified by ma`asei ha-Torah.  17 But if, while we sought to be justified ba-Mashiach, gam anachnu also were found chatta'im, is Mashiach shammash ha-chet?  Chalilah!  18 For if I build up again those things which I destroyed, I prove myself a transgressor.  19 For I, through ha-Torah, died to ha-Torah, that I might live to Elohim.  20 I have been put to death with Mashiach, v'ein-od anochi ha-chai, ki im-ha-Mashiach hu chai in me.  That life which I now live ba-basar, I live be-emunah Ben Elohim, who loved me and gave himself up for me.  21 I don't make void chesed ha-Elohim.  For if tz'dakah is through ha-Torah, then Mashiach died for nothing!"


CHAPTER 3
3:1 Foolish Galatiyim, who has bewitched you not to obey ha-emet, before whose eyes Yeshua ha-Mashiach was openly set forth among you as put to death?  2 I just want to learn this from you.  Did you receive ha-Ruach mi-ma`asei ha-Torah, or by hearing of ha-emunah?  3 Are you so foolish?  Having begun ba-Ruach, are you now completed ba-basar?  4 Did you suffer so many things in vain, if it is indeed in vain?  5 He therefore that supplies ha-Ruach to you, and works moftim among you, does he do it by ma`asei ha-Torah, or by hearing of emunah?

3:6 Even as Avraham "believed Elohim, and it was counted to him for tz'dakah."[A]7 Know, therefore, that those who are of emunah, the same are b'nei Avraham.  8 Ha-katuv, foreseeing that Elohim would justify ha-goyim by emunah, preached ha-B'sorah beforehand to Avraham, saying, "In you will kol ha-goyim be blessed."[B]9 So then, those who are of emunah are blessed with Avraham ha-ma'amin.

3:10 For as many as are of ma`asei ha-Torah are under a curse.  Ki katuv, "Cursed is everyone who doesn't continue in kol ha-d'varim ha-k'tuvim b'sefer ha-Torah, to do them."[C]11 Now that no ben adam is justified by ha-Torah lifnei ha-Elohim is evident, for, "Ha-tzadikim will live by emunah."[D]12 Ha-Torah is not of emunah, but "Ha-adam doing them shall live in them."[E] 13 Mashiach redeemed us from the curse of ha-Torah, having become a curse for us, ka-katuv, "cursed by Elohim is he that is hanged,"[F] 3-1314 that the blessing of Avraham might come al-ha-goyim through Mashiach Yeshua; that we might receive the promise of ha-Ruach through emunah.

3:15 Achim, I speak like b'nei adam.  Though it is only a b'rit ben adam, yet when it has been confirmed, no one makes it void, or adds to it.  16 Now the promises were spoken to Avraham and to his zera.  He doesn't say, "To z'ro'im," as of many, but as of one, "To your zera," which is Mashiach.[G]17 Now I say this.  A b'rit confirmed beforehand by Elohim ba-Mashiach, ha-Torah, which came four hundred and thirty years after, does not annul, so as to make the promise of no effect.  18 For if the inheritance is of ha-Torah, it is no more of promise; but Elohim has granted it to Avraham by promise.

3:19 What then is ha-Torah?  It was added because of transgressions, until ha-zera should come to whom the promise has been made.  It was ordained through malakhim by the hand of a mediator.  20 Now a mediator is not of echad, but Elohim hu echad.

3:21 Is ha-Torah then against the promises of Elohim?  Chalilah!  For if there had been a Torah given which could make alive, most assuredly tz'dakah would have been of ha-Torah.  22 But ha-K'tuvim shut up all under chet, that the promise by emunah of Yeshua ha-Mashiach might be given to those who believe.

3:23 But before ha-emunah came, we were kept in custody under ha-Torah, shut up to ha-emunah which should afterwards be revealed.  24 So that ha-Torah has become our tutor to bring us la-Mashiach, that we might be justified ba-emunah.  25 But now that ha-emunah is come, we are no longer under a tutor.  26 For you are all b'nei ha-Elohim al-y'dei ha-emunah ba-Mashiach Yeshua.  27 For as many of you as were immersed la-Mashiach have put on ha-Mashiach.  28 There is neither Y'hudi v'lo Y'vani, there is neither eved nor freeman, there is neither male nor female; for you are all echad ba-Mashiach Yeshua.  29 If you are of Mashiach, then you are zera Avraham and heirs according to promise.

CHAPTER 4
4:1 But I say that so long as the heir is a yeled, he is no different from an eved, though he is adon ha-kol;  2 but is under guardians and stewards until (the day) appointed by ha-av.  3 So we also, when we were childish, were held in bondage under the elements of ha`olam.  4 But when the fullness of the time came, Elohim sent forth B'no, born to an ishshah, born under ha-Torah,  5 that he might redeem those who were under ha-Torah, that we might receive the adoption of banim.  6 And because you are banim, Elohim sent forth Ruach B'no into your l'vavot, crying, "Abba, Father!"  7 So you are no longer an `eved, but a ben; and if a ben, then an heir of Elohim al-y'dei Mashiach.

4:8 However at that time, not knowing Elohim, you were in bondage to those who by nature are no elohim.  9 But now that you have come to know Elohim, or rather to be known by Elohim, why do you turn back again to the weak and miserable elements to which you desire to be in bondage all over again?  10 You observe yamim v'chadashim u'mo`adim v'shanim.  11 I am afraid for you, that I might have wasted my labor for you.

4:12 I beg you, achim, become as I am, for I also have become as you are.  You did me no wrong,  13 but you know that because of weakness of ha-basar I preached ha-B'sorah to you ba-rishonah.  14 That which was a temptation to you in my basar, you didn't despise nor reject; but you received me as a malakh ha-Elohim, even as Mashiach Yeshua.  15 What was the blessing you enjoyed?  For I testify to you that, if possible, you would have plucked out your eyes and given them to me.  16 So then, have I become your enemy by telling you ha-emet?  17 They zealously seek you in no good way.  No, they desire to alienate you, that you may seek them.  18 But it is always good to be zealous in a good cause, and not only when I am present with you.  19 My y'ladim, of whom I am again in travail until Mashiach is formed in you--  20 but I could wish to be present with you now, and to change my tone, for I am perplexed about you.

4:21 Tell me, you who desire to be under ha-Torah, don't you listen to ha-Torah?  22 For it is written that Avraham had two banim, one by the handmaid, and one by the free woman.  23 However, he by the handmaid was born according to ha-basar, but he by the free woman was born through promise.  24 These things contain an allegory, for these are two b'ritot; ha-achat min Har Sinai, bringing forth to bondage, v'hi Hagar.  25 Ki Sinai hu har ba-`Arav, and answers to the Yerushalayim that exists now, for she is in bondage with her y'ladim.  26 But Yerushalayim above is free, which is mother of us all.  27 Ki katuv, "Sing out, you barren who don't bear.  Break forth and shout, you who don't travail.  For more are the y'ladim of the desolate than of she who has a ba`al."[A]28 Now we, achim, as Yitzchak was, are y'ladim of promise.  29 But as then, he who was born according to ha-basar persecuted him who was born according to ha-Ruach, so also it is now.  30 However what does ha-Katuv say?  "Cast out the handmaid and her son, for the son of the handmaid will not inherit with the son of the free woman."[B]31 So then, achim, we are not y'ladim of a handmaid, but of the free woman.

CHAPTER 5
5:1 Stand firm, therefore, in the liberty by which Mashiach has made us free, and don't be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

5:2 Behold, I, Sha'ul, tell you that if you receive mulah, Mashiach will profit you nothing.  3 Yes, I testify again to every ben adam who receives mulah, that he is a debtor to do the whole Torah.  4 You are alienated from Mashiach, you who desire to be justified by ha-Torah.  You have fallen away min chesed.  5 For we, through ha-Ruach, by emunah wait l'tikvat ha-tz'dakah.  6 Ki ba-Mashiach Yeshua neither mulah amounts to anything, nor uncircumcision, but emunah working through ahavah.  7 You were running well!  Who interfered with you that you should not obey ha-emet?  8 This persuasion is not from him who calls you.  9 A little s'or makes the whole lump chametz.  10 I have confidence toward you ba-Adon that you will think no other way.  But he who troubles you will bear his mishpat, whoever he is.  11 But I, achim, if I still preach mulah, why am I still persecuted?  Then the stumbling-block of the stake has been removed.  12 I wish that those who disturb you would cut themselves off.

5:13 For you, achim, were called for freedom.  Only don't use your freedom for gain la-basar, but through ahavah be avadim to one another.  14 Ki khol ha-Torah is fulfilled in davar echad in this: "Ahavta l're'akha kamokha." ("You shall love your neighbor as yourself.")  15 But if you bite and devour one another, be careful that you don't consume one another.

5:16 But I say, walk ba-Ruach, and you won't fulfill the lust of ha-basar.  17 Ki ha-basar lusts against ha-Ruach, and ha-Ruach against ha-basar; and these are contrary the one to the other, that you may not do the things that you desire.  18 But if you are led by ha-Ruach, you are not under ha-Torah.  19 Now the works of ha-basar are obvious, which are: adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness,  20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies,  21 envyings, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these; of which I forewarn you, even as I also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit malkhut ha-Elohim.  22 But p'ri ha-Ruach hu ahavah, simchah, shalom, patience, kindness, v'chesed v'emunah,  23 gentleness, and self-control.  Against eleh ein Torah.  24 Those who belong to Mashiach have put to death ha-basar with its passions and lusts.

5:25 If we live by ha-Ruach, let's also walk by ha-Ruach.  26 Let's not become conceited, provoking one another, and envying one another.


CHAPTER 6
6:1 Achim, even if a ben adam is caught in some fault, you who are spiritual must restore such a one in a ruach of gentleness; looking to yourself so that you also aren't tempted.  2 Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill Torat Mashiach.  3 For if a ben adam thinks himself to be something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.  4 But let each ben adam test his own ma`aseh, and then he will take pride in himself and not in his neighbor.  5 For each ben adam will bear his own burden.

6:6 But let him who is taught ba-davar share mi-kol-tovo with him who teaches.

6:7 Don't be deceived.  Elohim is not mocked, for whatever ben adam sows, that will he also reap.  8 For he who sows to his own basar will from ha-basar reap corruption.  But he who sows to ha-Ruach will from ha-Ruach reap chayyei `olam.  9 Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don't give up.  10 So then, as we have time, let us work that which is good toward all, and most of all toward beit ha-emunah.

6:11 See with what large letters I write to you with my own hand.  12 As many as desire to look good in ha-basar, they compel you to be circumcised; only that they may not be persecuted for the stake of Mashiach.  13 For even they who receive mulah don't keep ha-Torah themselves, but they desire to have you circumcised, that they may boast in your basar.  14 But far be it from me to boast, except in the stake of Adoneinu Yeshua ha-Mashiach, through which ha`olam has been put to death to me, and I la`olam.  15 Ki ba-Mashiach Yeshua neither is mulah anything, nor uncircumcision, but a b'riah chadashah.  16 As many as will walk by this rule, shalom v'chesed be on them, v`al Yisra'el Elohim.

6:17 From now on, let no one cause me any trouble, for I bear the marks of ha-Adon Yeshua branded on my body.

6:18 Chesed Adoneinu Yeshua ha-Mashiach be with your ruach, achim.  Amein.

3:13:  When an NT writer uses a quote from the TaNaKh, I try to use an interpretation of the TaNaKh, but here the modern Hebrew translators (THREE VERSIONS) of the NT actually quoted the Hebrew verse in Deuteronomy ("kilelat Elohim talui" - "cursed by God is he that is hanged") rather than translating the Greek of Galatians ("Cursed [is] everyone who has been hung on a tree.").  I have chosen to use the original.  A "tree" is mentioned earlier in the Deut. verse, but not in this phrase, whereas "God" IS mentioned in Deut., but not here in the Greek.
