5:16 Ha-kohen shall bring her near, and set her lif'nei YHWH.  17 Ha-kohen shall take mayim k'doshim in an earthen vessel; and the priest shall take some of the dust that is on the floor of ha-Mishkan and put it el-ha-mayim.  18 Ha-kohen shall set ha-ishshah lif'nei YHWH, and let the hair of rosh ha-ishshah go loose, and put ha-minchah of memorial in her hands, which is ha-minchah of jealousy.  Ha-kohen shall have in his hand the water of bitterness that brings a curse.  19 Ha-kohen shall cause her to take an oath and shall tell ha-ishshah, "If no ish has lain with you, and if you haven't gone aside to uncleanness, being under (the authority of) your ish, be free from this water of bitterness that brings a curse.  20 But if you have gone astray from (under your the authority of) your ish, and if you are defiled, and some ish has lain with you besides your ish --"  21 then ha-kohen shall cause ha-ishshah to swear with the oath of cursing, and ha-kohen shall tell ha-ishshah, "May YHWH make you a curse and an oath among your people, when YHWH allows your thigh to fall away, and your body to swell;  22 and ha-mayim ha-eleh that brings a curse will go into your bowels, and make your body swell, and your thigh fall away."  Ha-ishshah shall say, "Amen, amen."

5:23 "'Ha-kohen shall write these curses ba-sefer, and he shall wipe them into the water of bitterness.  24 He shall make ha-ishshah drink the water of bitterness that causes the curse; and ha-mayim that causes the curse shall enter into her and become bitter.  25 Ha-kohen shall take mi-yad ha-ishshah the minchah of jealousy, and shall wave ha-minchah lif'nei YHWH, and bring it el-ha-mizbeach.  26 Ha-kohen shall take a handful of ha-minchah, as its memorial portion, and smoke it on ha-mizbeach, and afterward shall make ha-ishshah drink ha-mayim.  27 When he has made her drink ha-mayim, then it shall happen, if she is defiled and has committed a trespass against ishah, that ha-mayim that causes the curse will enter into her and become bitter, and her body will swell, and her thigh will fall away; and ha-ishshah will be a curse among her people.  28 If ha-ishshah isn't defiled, but is tahor; then she shall be free, and shall conceive zerah.

5:29 "'This is the torah of jealousy, when an ishshah, being under ishah, goes astray, and is defiled,  30 or when the ruach of jealousy comes on a man, and he is jealous of his ishshah; then he shall set ha-ishshah lif'nei YHWH, and ha-kohen shall execute on her kol ha-torah hazot.  31 Ha-ish shall be free from iniquity, v'ha-ishshah ha-hi shall bear her iniquity.'"

CHAPTER 8

8:1 Vaidaber YHWH el-Mosheh, lemor,  2 "Daber el-Aharon, and tell him, 'When you light ha-nerot, toward the face of ha-m'norah shall be the light of shiv'at ha-nerot.'"  3 Aharon did so.  In front of the face of ha-m'norah he lit ha-nerot, as YHWH commanded Mosheh.  4 V'zeh ma'`aseh ha-m'norah, beaten work of zahav.  From its base to its flowers, it was beaten work.  He made ha-m'norah according to the pattern which YHWH had shown Mosheh.

8:5 Vaidaber YHWH el-Mosheh, lemor, 6 "Take ha-L'vi'im from among b'nei Yisra'el, and cleanse them.  7 You shall do this to them, to cleanse them: sprinkle the water of chattat on them, let them shave their whole basar with a razor, let them wash their clothes, and cleanse themselves.  8 Then let them take a young bull and its minchah, fine flour mixed with shemen; and another young bull you shall take for a chattat.  9 You shall present ha-L'viyyim lif'nei Ohel Mo`ed.  You shall assemble kol `adat b'nei Yisra'el.  10 You shall present ha-L'viyyim lif'nei YHWH.  B'nei Yisra'el shall lay their hands al'ha-L'viyyim,  11 and Aharon shall offer ha-L'viyyim lif'nei YHWH for a t'nufah on behalf of b'nei Yisra'el, that it may be theirs to do the service of YHWH.  12 "Ha-L'viyyim shall lay their hands on the heads of the bulls, and you shall offer the one for a chattat and the other for an `olah la-YHWH, to make atonement for ha-L'viyyim.  13 You shall set ha-L'viyyim lif'nei Aharon v'lif'nei banav, and offer them as a t'nufah la-YHWH.

8:14 Thus you shall separate ha-L'viyyim from among b'nei Yisra'el, and ha-L'viyyim shall be mine. 15 "After that, ha-L'viyyim shall go in to do the service of Ohel Mo`ed.  You shall cleanse them, and offer them as a t'nufah.  16 For they are wholly given to me from among b'nei Yisra'el; instead of all who open the womb, even the firstborn of kol b'nei Yisra'el, I have taken them to me.  17 For all the firstborn among b'nei Yisra'el are mine, ba-adam u'va-b'hemah.  On the day that I struck all the firstborn b'eretz Mitzrayim, I sanctified them for myself.  18 I have taken ha-L'viyyim instead of all the firstborn among bn'ei Yisra'el.  19 I have given ha-L'viyyim as a gift to Aharon and to his banim from among b'nei Yisra'el, to do the service of b'nei Yisra'el b'Ohel Mo`ed, and to make atonement for b'nei Yisra'el, so that there will be no plague among b'nei Yisra'el when b'nei Yisra'el come near el-Kodesh."

8:20 Mosheh v'Aharon v'khol `adat b'nei Yisra'el did so to ha-L'viyyim.  According to all that YHWH commanded Mosheh concerning ha-L'viyyim, so b'nei Yisra'el did to them.  21 Ha-L'viyyim purified themselves, and they washed their clothes; and Aharon offered them for a t'nufah lif'nei YHWH and Aharon made atonement for them to cleanse them.  22 After that, ha-L'viyyim went in to do their service b'Ohel Mo`ed lif'nei Aharon v'lif'nei banav: as YHWH had commanded Mosheh concerning ha-L'viyyim, so they did to them.

8:23 Vaidaber YHWH el Mosheh, lemor24 "This is what is assigned to ha-L'viyyim: from twenty-five years old and upward they shall go in to wait on the service in the work of Ohel Mo`ed;  25 and from the age of fifty years they shall retire from doing the work, and shall serve no more,  26 but shall assist their brothers b'Ohel Mo`ed, to perform the duty, and shall perform no service.  This is how you shall have ha-L'viyyim do their duties."

9:9 Vaidaber YHWH el-Mosheh, lemor, 10 "Daber el-b'nei Yisra'el, lemor, 'If any man of you or of your dorot is tameh la-nefesh o b'derekh far away, he shall still keep Pesach la-YHWH.  11 Ba-chodesh ha-sheni, on the fourteenth day ba-erev they shall keep it; they shall eat it al-matzot and maror.  12 They shall leave none of it `ad-boker, nor break a bone of it.  According to kol chuttat ha-Pesach they shall keep it.  13 V'ha-ish asher-hu tahor u'v'derekh lo-hayah, and fails to keep ha-Pesech, ha-nefesh ha-hi shall be cut off from his people; because he didn't offer korban YHWH in its mo`ed, ha-ish ha-hu shall bear his chet.  14 "'If a ger lives among you, and desires to keep Pesach la-YHWH, then he shall do so according to chukkat ha-Pesach, and according to its mishpat.  Chukkah achat you shall have, both for ha-ger and for him who is born in ha-aretz.'"

9:15 U'v'yom that ha-Mishkan was raised up, the cloud covered ha-Mishkan, l'Ohel ha-Edut.  U'va-erev it was over ha-Mishkan, as it were the appearance of esh `ad-boker.  16 So it was continually.  The cloud covered it, and the appearance of esh by lailah.  17 Whenever the cloud was taken up from me-al ha-Ohel, then after that b'nei Yisra'el traveled; u'vi'm'qom where the cloud remained, there b'nei Yisra'el encamped.  18 Al-pi YHWH, b'nei Yisra'el traveled, v'al-pi YHWH they encamped.  As long as the cloud remained al-ha-Mishkan they remained encamped.  19 When the cloud stayed al-ha-Mishkan yamim rabbim, then b'nei Yisra'el kept the command of YHWH, and didn't travel.  20 Sometimes the cloud was a few days al-ha-Mishkan; then al-pi-YHWH they remained encamped, v'al-pi YHWH they traveled.  21 Sometimes the cloud was me-erev ad-boker; and when the cloud was taken up ba-boker, they traveled; o yoman va-lailah, when the cloud was taken up, they traveled.  22 Whether it was two days o chodesh o yamim that the cloud stayed al-ha-Mishkan, remaining on it, b'nei Yisra'el remained encamped and didn't travel; but when it was taken up, they traveled.  23 Al-pi YHWH they encamped, v'al-pi YHWH they traveled.  They kept the command of YHWH, al-pi YHWH b'yad Mosheh.

10:1 Vaidaber YHWH el Mosheh, lemor,  2 "Make two trumpets of kesef.  You shall make them of beaten work.  You shall use them for the calling of ha-`edah, and for the journeying of the camps.  3 When they blow them, kol-ha-`edah shall gather themselves to you el-Petach Ohel Mo`ed.  4 If they blow just one, then the princes, the heads of the thousands of Yisra'el, shall gather themselves to you.  5 When you blow an alarm, the camps that lie on the east side shall go forward.  6 When you blow an alarm the second time, the camps that lie on the south side shall go forward.  They shall blow an alarm for their journeys.  7 But when ha-qahal is to be gathered together, you shall blow, but you shall not sound an alarm.  8 "B'nei Aharon, ha-kohanim shall blow the trumpets.  This shall be to you for a chukkat olam throughout your dorot.  9 When you go to war in your eretz against the adversary who oppresses you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets.  Then you will be remembered lif'nei YHWH Eloheikhem, and you will be saved from your enemies.  10 "Also in the day of your simchah, and in your mo`adim, and in the beginnings of your chodashim, you shall blow the trumpets over your olot, and over the sacrifices of your shlamim; and they shall be to you for a memorial lif'nei Eloheikhem.  Ani YHWH Eloheikhem."

10:11 Va'y'hi ba-shanah ha-shenit, ba-chodesh, on the twentieth day of the month, the cloud was taken up me-al Mishkan ha-`Edut.  12 B'nei Yisra'el went forward on their journeys mi-midbar Sinai; and the cloud stayed b'midbar Paran.  13 Ha-rishon went forward al-pi YHWH b'yad Mosheh. 14 The standard of the camp of b'nei Y'hudah went forward b'rishonah according to their armies.  Nachshon ben-`Amminadav was over his army.  15 Over the army of the tribe of b'nei Yissachar (was) N'tan'el ben-Tzu'ar.  16 And over the army of the tribe of b'nei Z'vulun (was) Eli'av ben Chelon.

10:17 Ha-Mishkan was taken down; and b'nei Gershon u'v'nei M'rari, who bore ha-Mishkan, went forward.  18 The standard of the camp of R'uven went forward according to their armies.  Eli'tzur ben-Sh'de'ur was over his army.  19 And over the army of the tribe of b'nei Shim`on (was) Sh'lumi'el ben-Tzurishaddai.  20 And over the army of the tribe of b'nei Gad (was) Elyasaf ben-D'u'el.

10:21 Ha-K'hatim set forward, bearing ha-Mishkan to set up ha-Mishkan on their coming.  22 The standard of the camp of b'nei Efrayim set forward according to their armies.  Elishama ben-Ammihud was over his army.  23 And over the army of the tribe of b'nei M'nassheh (was) Gamli'el ben-P'dah'tzur.  24 And over the army of the tribe of b'nei Binyamin (was) Avidan ben-Gid'oni.

10:25 The standard of the camp of b'nei Dan, which was the rear guard of all the camps, set forward according to their armies.  Over his army was Achi`etzer ben-`Ammishaddai .  26 And over the army of the tribe of b'nei Asher (was) Pag'iel ben-Ochran.  27 And over the army of the tribe of b'nei Naftali (was) Achira ben-`Einan.  28 Thus were the travels of b'nei Yisra'el according to their armies; and they went forward.

10:29 Vayomer Mosheh l'Chovav, ben-R'u'el ha-Midyani, father-in-law of Mosheh, "We are journeying el-ha-maqom asher amar YHWH, 'I will give it to you.'  Come with us, and we will treat you well; for YHWH-diber tov `al-Yisra'el."  30 Vayomer to him, "I will not go; but I will depart to my own eretz, and to my relatives."  31 Vayomer, "Don't leave us, please; because you know how we are to encamp ba-midbar, and you can be our eyes.  32 It shall be, if you go with us -- yes, it shall be -- that whatever good YHWH does to us, we will do the same to you."

10:33 They set forward me-har YHWH three days' journey; v'aron b'rit YHWH went before them three days' journey, to seek out a resting place for them.  34 The cloud of YHWH was over them by day, when they set forward from the camp.

10:35 And ha-aron went forward, vayomer Mosheh, "Rise up, YHWH, and let your enemies be scattered!  Let those who hate you flee before you!"  36 When it rested, he said, "Return, YHWH, to the ten thousands of Yisra'el."

CHAPTER 11

11:1 The people were as murmurers in the ears of YHWH.  When YHWH heard it, his anger burned; and esh YHWH burned among them, and consumed some of the outskirts of the camp.  2 The people cried to Mosheh; and Mosheh prayed to YHWH, and the fire abated.  3 Vayikra shem-ha-maqom ha-hu Tav'erah ["burning"], because esh YHWH burned among them.

11:4 The mixed multitude that was among them lusted exceedingly; and b'nei Yisra'el also wept again, and said, "Who will give us meat to eat?  5 We remember the fish which we ate b'Mitzrayim for nothing; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic;  6 but now we have lost our nefesh [appetite].  There is nothing at all except this man to look at."

11:7 V'ha-man was like coriander seed, and it looked like bdellium.[♦]8 Ha-am went around, gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in mortars, and boiled it in pots, and made cakes of it.  Its taste was like the taste of fresh shemen.  9 When the dew fell on the camp in the night, ha-man fell on it.

11:10 Mosheh heard ha-am weeping throughout their mishp'chot, every man at the petach of his ohel; and the anger of YHWH burned greatly; and Mosheh was displeased.  11 Vayomer Mosheh el-YHWH, "Why have you treated your eved so badly?  Why haven't I found favor in your sight, that you lay the burden of kol ha-am hazeh on me?  12 Have I conceived kol ha-am hazeh?  Have I brought them out, that you should tell me, 'Carry them in your bosom, as a nurse carries a nursing infant, al-ha-adamah which you swore to their avot?'  13 Where could I get basar to give l'khol ha-am hazeh?  For they weep before me, saying, 'Give us basar that we may eat.'  14 I am not able to bear kol ha-am hazeh alone, because it is too heavy for me.  15 If you treat me this way, please kill me right now, if I have found favor in your sight; and don't let me see my wretchedness."

11:16 Vayomer YHWH el-Mosheh, "Gather to me seventy men mi-ziqnei Yisra'el, whom you know to be ziqnei ha-am and officers over them; and bring them el-Ohel Mo`ed, that they may stand there with you.  17 I will come down and talk with you there.  I will take min-ha-ruach which is on you, and will put it on them; and they shall bear the burden of ha-am with you, that you don't bear it yourself alone.  18 "V'el ha-am say, 'Sanctify yourselves in preparation for tomorrow, and you will eat basar; for you have wept in the ears of YHWH, saying, "Who will give us basar to eat?  Ki tov la-nu b'Mitzrayim."  Therefore YHWH will give you basar, and you will eat.  19 Lo yom echad you will not eat, v'lo yomayim, or five days, or ten days, or twenty days, 20 ad chodesh yamim, until it comes out at your nostrils, and it is loathsome to you; because you have rejected YHWH who is among you, and have wept before him, saying, "Why did we come mi-Mitzrayim?"'"  21 Vayomer Mosheh, "The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand men on foot; and you have said, 'I will give them basar, that they may eat chodesh yamim.'  22 Shall flocks and herds be slaughtered for them, to be sufficient for them?  Shall kol d'gei ha-yam be gathered together for them, to be sufficient for them?" 23 Vayomer YHWH el-Mosheh, "Is yad YHWH grown short?  Now you will see whether my davar will happen to you or not."

11:24 Mosheh went out, vaidaber el-ha-am et divrei YHWH; and he gathered seventy men mi-ziqnei ha-am, and set them around ha-Ohel.  25 YHWH came down in the cloud, vaidaber to him, and took min-ha-Ruach that was on him, and put it on the seventy ish ha-zqenim.  When ha-Ruach rested on them, they prophesied, but they did so no more.

11:26 But two anashim remained in the camp.  Shem ha-echad Eldad ["God has loved"], v'shem ha-sheni Medad; and ha-Ruach rested on them.  They were of those who were written, but had not gone out to ha-Ohel; and they prophesied in the camp.  27 A young man ran, and told Mosheh, and said, "Eldad u'Medad are prophesying in the camp!"  28 Y'hoshua ben-Nun, the servant of Mosheh, one of his chosen men, answered, "Adoni Mosheh, forbid them!"  29 Vayomer Mosheh to him, "Are you jealous for my sake?  I wish that kol-am YHWH were n'vi'im, that YHWH would put his Ruach on them!"  30 Mosheh went into the camp, hu v'ziqnei Yisra'el.

11:31 Ruach [a wind] from YHWH went out and brought quails min-ha-yam, and let them fall by the camp, about a day's journey on this side, and a day's journey on the other side, around the camp, and about two cubits al-p'nei ha-aretz.  32 And arose ha-am kol-ha-yom ha-hu v'khol ha-lailah, and all the next day, and gathered the quails.  He who gathered least gathered ten chomarim;[*] and they spread them all out for themselves around the camp.  33 While ha-basar was still between their teeth, before it was chewed, the anger of YHWH burned against ha-am, and YHWH struck ha-am with a very great plague.  34 Vayikra et-shem ha-maqom ha-hu Kivrot-ha-Ta'avah, because there they buried ha-am who lusted.  35 From Kivrot-ha-Ta'avah[♦] ha-am traveled to Chatzerot ["villages"]; and they stayed ba-Chatzerot.

CHAPTER 12

12:1 Miryam v'Aharon spoke against Mosheh because of ha-ishshah ha-Cushit whom he had married; for he had married an ishshah Cushit.  2 They said, "Has YHWH indeed spoken only with Mosheh?  Hasn't he spoken also with us?"  And YHWH heard it.  3 Now ha-ish Mosheh was very humble mi-kol ha-adam asher al-p'nei ha-adamah.  4 Vayomer YHWH suddenly el-Mosheh v'el-Aharon v'el-Miryam, "You three come out el-Ohel Mo`ed!"  The three of them came out.  5 YHWH came down in a pillar of cloud, and stood at petach ohel, vayikra Aharon u'Miryam; and they both came forward.  6 Vayomer, "Now hear my d'varim.  If there is a navi among you, I, YHWH, will make myself known to him in a vision.  I will speak with him in a dream.  7 My eved Mosheh is not so.  In all my bayit, ne'eman hu.  8 Peh al-peh will I speak with him, even plainly, and not in riddles; and he shall see the form of YHWH.  Why, then, were you not afraid to speak against my eved, against Mosheh?"

12:9 The anger of YHWH burned against them; and he departed.  10 The cloud departed me-al-ohel; v'hinneh, Miryam was leprous, as white as snow.  Aharon looked at Miryam, v'hinneh, she was leprous.  11 Vayomer Aharon el-Mosheh, "Oh, adoni, please don't count this sin against us, in which we have done foolishly, and in which we have sinned.  12 Let her not, I pray, be as one dead, of whom ha-basar is half consumed when he comes out of his mother's womb."  13 Mosheh cried to YHWH, saying, El, heal her now, I beg you!"  14 Vayomer YHWH el-Mosheh, "If her father had but spit in her face, shouldn't she be ashamed shiv'at yomim?  Let her be shut up outside of the camp shiv'at yomim, and after that she shall be brought in again."  15 Miryam was shut up outside of the camp shiv'at yomim, and the people didn't travel until Miryam was brought in again.  16 Afterward the people traveled me-Chatzerot, and encamped b'midbar Paran.

CHAPTER 13

13:1 Vaidaber YHWH el-Mosheh, lemor,  2 "Send anashim, that they may spy out eretz K'na'an, which I give to b'nei Yisra'el.  Ish echad ish echad of every tribe of their avot, kol nasi among them."  3 Mosheh sent them mi-midbar Paran al-pi YHWH.  All of them anashim roshei b'nei Yisra'el.
4 These were their names: Of the tribe of Re'u'ven, Shammua ben-Zaccur.
5 Of the tribe of Shim`on, Shafat ben-Chori.
6 Of the tribe of Y'hudah, Kalev ben-Yefunneh.
7 Of the tribe of Issakhar, Yigal ben-Yosef.
8 Of the tribe of Efrayim, Hoshea ben-Nun.
9 Of the tribe of Binyamin, Palti ben-Rafu.
10 Of the tribe of Z'vulun, Gaddi'el ben-Sodi.
11 Of the tribe of Yosef, of the tribe of Manassheh, Gaddi ben-Susi.
12 Of the tribe of Dan, Ammi'el ben-G'malli.
13 Of the tribe of Asher, Setur ben-Micha'el.
14 Of the tribe of Naftali, Nachbi ben-Vofsi.
15 Of the tribe of Gad, G'u'el ben-Machi.
16 Eleh sh'mot anashim asher-shalach Mosheh to spy out ha-aretz.  Vayikra Mosheh et-Hoshea ben-Nun Y'hoshua.

13:17 Mosheh sent them to spy out eretz K'na'an vayomer to them, "Go up this way ba-negev, and go up into ha-har.  18 See ha-aretz, what it is; v'ha-am who dwell therein, whether they are strong or weak, whether they are few or many;  19 and what ha-aretz is that they dwell in -- ha-tovah, im-ra'ah; and what cities they are that they dwell in, whether in camps, or in strongholds;  20 and what ha-aretz is, whether it is fertile or poor, whether there is wood therein, or not.  Be courageous, and bring mi-p'ri ha-aretz."  Now the time was the time of the first-ripe grapes.

13:21 So they went up, and spied out ha-aretz mi-midbar Tzin ad-R'chov to the entrance to Chamat.  22 They went up ba-negev, and came to Chevron; v'sham Achiman, Sheshai, v'Talmai, y'lidei ha-Anak.  (Now Chevron was built seven years lifnei Tzo'an Mitzrayim.)  23 They came to the valley of Eshkol, and cut down from there a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bore it on a staff between two.  They also brought some of the pomegranates and figs.  24 Ha-maqom ha-hu was called the valley of Eshkol, because of the cluster [eshkol] which b'nei Yisra'el cut down from there.

13:25 They returned from spying out ha-aretz at the end of forty days.  26 They went and came el-Mosheh v'el-Aharon v'el-kol-adat b'nei Yisra'el el-midbar Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word to them and to kol ha-edah.  They showed them p'ri ha-aretz.  27 They told him, and said, "We came el-ha-aretz where you sent us.  Surely it flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.  28 However, the people who dwell ba-aretz are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large.  Moreover, we saw the children of Anak there.  29 Amalek dwells b'eretz ha-negev, v'ha-Chitti v'ha-Y'vusi v'ha-Amori dwell ba-har, v'ha-K'na'ani dwells al-ha-yam, v'al-ha-Yarden."

13:30 Kalev stilled ha-am al-Mosheh, vayomer, "Let's go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it!" 31 V'ha-anashim who went up with him said, "We aren't able to go up against ha-am; for they are stronger than we."  32 They brought up an evil report of ha-aretz which they had spied out el-b'nei Yisra'el, lemor, "Ha-aretz, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that eats up its inhabitants; v'khol ha-am who we saw in it are men of great stature.  33 There we saw ha-N'filim, b'nei-Anak, who come from ha-N'filim.  We were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight."

CHAPTER 14

14:1 Kol ha-edah lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept ba-lailah ha-hu.  2 Kol b'nei Yisra'el murmured al-Mosheh v'al-Aharon.  Kol ha-edah said to them, "We wish that we had died b'eretz Mitzrayim, or that we had died ba-midbar hazeh!  3 Why does YHWH bring us al-ha-aretz hazot, to fall by the sword?  Our wives and our little ones will be captured or killed! Wouldn't it be better for us to return into Mitzrayim?"

14:4 They said to one another, "Let's choose a leader, and let's return into Mitzrayim."  5 Mosheh v'Aharon fell on their faces lifnei kol-qahal adat b'nei Yisra'el.  6 Y'hoshua ben-Nun v'Khalev ben-Y'funneh, who were of those who spied out ha-aretz, tore their clothes.  7 Vayomru el-kol adat b'nei Yisra'el, lemor, "Ha-aretz, which we passed through to spy it out -- tovah ha-aretz, me'od me'od.  8 If YHWH delights in us, then he will bring us el-ha-aretz hazot, and give it to us: eretz flowing with milk and honey.  9 Only don't rebel against YHWH, neither fear am ha-aretz; for they are lechem for us.  Their defense is removed from over them, and YHWH is with us.  Don't fear them."  10 But kol ha-edah threatened to stone them with stones.

Kavod YHWH appeared b'Ohel Mo`ed el-kol b'nei Yisra'el.  11 Vayomer YHWH el-Mosheh, "How long will ha-am hazeh despise me? and how long will they not believe in me, b'khol ha-otot which I have worked among them?  12 I will strike them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of you a goy gadol mightier than they."

14:13 Vayomer el-YHWH, "Then Mitzrayim will hear it; for you brought up ha-am hazeh in your might from among them.  14 They will tell it to the inhabitants of ha-aretz hazot.  They have heard ki attah YHWH are among ha-am hazeh; for you YHWH are seen ayin b'ayin, and your cloud stands over them, and you go before them, in a pillar of cloud by day, and in a pillar of esh lailah.  15 Now if you kill ha-am hazeh k'ish echad, then ha-goyim which have heard the fame of you will speak, saying,  16 'Because YHWH was not able to bring ha-am hazeh el-ha-aretz which he swore to them, therefore he has slain them ba-midbar.'  17 Now please let the power of YHWH be great, according as you have spoken, saying, 18 'YHWH is slow to anger, and of rav chesed, forgiving iniquity and disobedience; and he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and on the fourth generation.'  19 Please pardon the iniquity of ha-am hazeh according to the greatness of your chesed, and just as you have forgiven this people, mi-Mitzrayim even until now."

14:20 Vayomer YHWH, "I have pardoned according to your davar;  21 but in very deed -- as I live, and as kol ha-aretz shall be filled with k'vod YHWH --  22 because kol anashim who have seen my kavod, and my otot, which I worked b'Mitzrayim u'vamidbar, yet have tempted me these ten times, and have not listened to my voice;  23 surely they shall not see ha-aretz which I swore la-avotam, neither shall any of those who despised me see it.  24 But my eved Kalev, because he had a ruach acheret with him, and has followed me fully, him I will bring el-ha-aretz into which he went.  His zera shall possess it.  25 Since ha-`Amaleki v'ha-K'na'ani dwell in the valley, tomorrow turn and go into ha-midbar derekh Yam Suf."

14:26 Vaidaber YHWH el-Mosheh v'el-Aharon, lemor, 27 "How long shall I bear with ha-edah ha-ra'ah hazot that complain against me?  I have heard the complaints of b'nei Yisra'el, which they complain against me.  28 Tell them, 'Chai-Ani, n'um YHWH, surely as you have spoken in my ears, so I will do to you.  29 Ba-midbar hazeh, your dead bodies shall fall ; and all who were counted of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have complained against me,  30 surely you shall not come el-ha-aretz concerning which I swore that I would make you dwell therein, except Kalev ben-Y'funneh v'Y'hoshua ben-Nun.  31 But your little ones that you said would be a prey, them shall I bring in, and they shall know ha-aretz which you have rejected.  32 But your corpses shall fall ba-midbar hazeh.  33 Your banim shall be shepherds ba-midbar forty years, and shall bear your prostitution, until your dead bodies are consumed ba-midbar.  34 After the number of the days in which you spied out ha-aretz, forty days, yom la-shanah yom la-shana, you will bear your infidelity forty years, and you will know my alienation.'  35 Ani YHWH have spoken.  I will surely do this l'khol ha-edah ha-ra'ah who are gathered together against me.  Ba-midbar hazeh they shall be consumed, and there they shall die."

14:36 V'ha-anashim asher shalach Mosheh to spy out ha-aretz, who returned and made kol-ha-edah to murmur against him by bringing up an evil report al-ha-aretz,  37 even ha-anashim who brought up an evil report of ha-aretz, died by the plague lif'nei YHWH.  38 But Y'hoshua ben-Nun v'Khalev ben-Y'funneh remained alive min-ha-anashim who went to spy out ha-aretz.

14:39 Vaidaber Mosheh et ha-d'varim ha-eleh el-kol-b'nei Yisrae'l, and ha-am mourned greatly.  40 They rose up early ba-boqer and went up el-rosh ha-har, lemor, "Hinneh, we are here, and will go up el-ha-maqom which YHWH has promised; for we have sinned."  41 Vayomer Mosheh, "Why now do you disobey pi YHWH, since it shall not prosper?  42 Don't go up, for YHWH isn't among you; that way you won't be struck down before your enemies.  43 Ki ha-Amaleki v'ha-K'na'ani sham lif'neikhem, and you will fall by the sword because you turned back from following YHWH; therefore YHWH will not be with you."  44 But they presumed to go up el-rosh ha-har.  Va-aron b'rit YHWH u'Mosheh didn't depart out of the camp.  45 Then ha-Amaleki v'ha-K'na'ani who lived ba-har ha-hu came down, and struck them and beat them down, ad-ha-Chormah.

15:1 (See the names of the offerings HERE)
Vaidaber YHWH el-Mosheh, lemor,  2 "Daber el-b'nei Yisra'el, and tell them, 'When you have come el-eretz of your habitations, which I give to you,  3 and will make an ishsheh la-YHWH -- olah o zevach, to accomplish a neder, or as a n'devah, or in your mo`edei, to make a pleasant aroma to YHWH, of the herd, or of the flock --  4 then he who offers his korban shall offer to YHWH a minchah of one tenth (of an eifah[*]) of fine flour mixed with one fourth of a hin[*] of shemen.  5 V'yayin la-nesekh, one fourth of a hin al-ha-olah o la-zavach, for each lamb.  6 "'For an ayil, you shall prepare for a minchah two tenths (of an eifah) of fine flour mixed with shemen the third part of a hin;  7 v'yayin la-nesekh you shall offer the third part of a hin, of a pleasant aroma to YHWH.  8 When you prepare a bull for an olah o zavach, to accomplish a neder o shlamim la-YHWH, 9 then he shall offer with the bull a minchah of three tenths (of an eifah) of fine flour mixed ba-shemen, half a hin; 10 v'yayin you shall bring la-nesekh, half a hin; an ishsheh of a fragrance pleasing to YHWH.

15:11 Thus it shall be done for each bull, for each ram, for each of the male lambs, or of the young goats.  12 According to the number that you shall prepare, so you shall do to everyone according to their number.  13 "'All who are native-born shall do these things in this way, in offering an ishsheh of a fragrance soothing to YHWH.  14 If a stranger lives as a foreigner with you, or whoever may be among you throughout your dorot, and will offer an ishsheh of a fragrance soothing to YHWH, as you do, so he shall do.  15 Ha-qahal, chukkah echat for you and for the stranger who lives as a foreigner, chukkat olam throughout your dorot.  As you are, so the foreigner shall be before YHWH.  16 Torah achat u'mishpat echad shall be for you and for the stranger who lives as a foreigner with you.'"

15:17 Vaidaber YHWH el-Mosheh, lemor,  18 "Daber el-b'nei Yisra'el, and tell them, 'When you come el-ha-aretz where I bring you,  19 then it shall be that when you eat mi-lechem ha-aretz, you shall lift up a t'rumah la-YHWH.  20 Of the first of your dough you shall offer up a challah for a t'rumah..  As a t'rumah of the threshing floor, so you shall lift it up.  21 Of the first of your dough, you shall give to YHWH t'rumah throughout your dorot.

15:22 "'When you err, and don't observe kol ha-mitzvot ha-eleh which YHWH has spoken to Mosheh --  23 even all that YHWH has commanded you by Mosheh, from the day that YHWH gave commandment and onward throughout your dorot --  24 then it shall be, if it was done unwittingly, without the knowledge of ha-edah, that kol ha-edah shall offer one young bull l'olah, for a pleasant aroma to YHWH, with its minchah and its nesekh, according to ha-mishpat, and one male goat for a chattat.  25 Ha-kohen shall make atonement al-kol-adat b'nei Yisra'el, and they shall be forgiven; for it was an error, and they have brought their korban, ishsheh la-YHWH, and their chattat before YHWH, for their error.  26 Kol-adat b'nei Yisra'el shall be forgiven, as well as the stranger who lives as a foreigner among them; for with regard l'khol ha-am, it was done unwittingly.

15:27 "'V'im nefesh achat sins unwittingly, then he shall offer a female goat a year old l'chattat.  28 Ha-kohen shall make atonement for ha-nefesh who errs when he sins unwittingly before YHWH.  He shall make atonement for him; and he shall be forgiven.  29 You shall have Torah achat for him who does anything unwittingly, for him who is native-born among b'nei Yisra'el, and for the stranger who lives as a foreigner among them.  30 "'V'ha-nefesh who does anything with a high hand, whether he is native-born or a foreigner, blasphemes YHWH.  Ha-nefesh ha-hu shall be cut off from among his people.  31 Because he has despised d'var YHWH, and has broken his mitzvah, ha-nefesh ha-hu shall be utterly cut off.  His iniquity shall be on him.'"

15:32 While b'nei Yisra'el were ba-midbar, they found a man gathering sticks b'yom ha-Shabbat.  33 Those who found him gathering sticks brought him el-Mosheh v'al-Aharon, v'el kol ha-edah.  34 They put him in custody, because it had not been declared what should be done to him.  35 Vayomer YHWH el-Mosheh, "Ha-ish shall surely be put to death.  Kol ha-edah shall stone him with stones outside of the camp."  36 Kol ha-edah brought him outside of the camp, and stoned him to death with stones, as YHWH commanded Mosheh.

15:37 Vaidaber YHWH el-Mosheh, lemor,  38 "Daber el-b'nei Yisra'el, and tell them that they should make themselves tzitzit al-kanfot of their garments throughout their dorot, and that they put al-tzitzit kanaf a cord of t'khelet.  39 It shall be to you for a tzitzit that you may see it, and remember kol mitzvot YHWH, and do them; and that you don't follow your own heart and your own eyes, after which you used to play the prostitute; 40 so that you may remember and do all my mitzvot, and be k'doshim l'Eloheikhem.  41 Ani YHWH Eloheikhem, who brought you out me-eretz Mitzrayim, to be l'Elohim: Ani YHWH Eloheikhem."

CHAPTER 16

16:1 V'Korach ben-Yitz'har ben-K'hat ben-Levi, v'Natan v'Aviram b'nei Eli'av v'On ben-Pelet, b'nei R'uven, took some men.  2 They rose up lif'nei Mosheh, v'anashim mi-b'nei-Yisra'el, two hundred fifty princes of ha-edah, called to ha-edah, men of renown.  3 They assembled themselves together al-Mosheh v'al-Aharon vayomru to them, "You take too much on yourself, ki kol ha-edah are k'doshim, everyone of them, and YHWH is among them!  Why do you lift yourselves up al-q'hal YHWH?"  4 When Mosheh heard it, he fell on his face.  5 Vaidaber al-Korach v'al kol adato, "(In the) boqer, YHWH will show who are his, and ha-kadosh, and will cause him to come near to him.  Even him whom he shall choose, he will cause to come near to him.  6 Do this: have Korach and all his company take censers,  7 put fire in them, and put incense on them lif'nei YHWH tomorrow.  It shall be that the man whom YHWH chooses, hu ha-kadosh.  You have gone too far, b'nei Levi!"  8 Vayomer Mosheh el-Korach, "Hear now, b'nei Levi!  9 Is it a small thing to you that Elohei Yisra'el has separated you me-adat Yisra'el, to bring you near to himself, to do avodat Mishkan YHWH, and to stand lif'nei ha-edah to minister to them;  10 and that he has brought you near, and all your brothers b'nei Levi with you?  Do you seek the priesthood also?  11 Therefore you and all your company have gathered together against YHWH!  What is Aharon that you complain against him?"

16:12 Mosheh sent to call l'Datan v'la-Aviram, b'nei-Eliav; vayomru, "We won't come up!  13 Is it a small thing that you have brought us up me-eretz flowing with milk and honey, to kill us ba-midbar, but you must also make yourself a prince over us?  14 Moreover you haven't brought us el-eretz flowing with milk and honey, nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards.  Will you put out the eyes of ha-anashim ha-hem?  We won't come up."

16:15 Mosheh was very angry, vayomer el-YHWH, "Don't respect their minchah.  Lo chamor echad have I taken from them, neither have I hurt one of them."  16 Vayomer Mosheh el-Korach, "You and all your company go lif'nei YHWH, you, and they, v'Aharon, tomorrow.  17 Each man take his censer and put incense on it, and each man bring lif'nei YHWH his censer, two hundred fifty censers; v'attah v'Aharon, each with his censer."  18 They each took his censer, and put fire in it, and laid incense on it, and stood at petach Ohel Mo`ed, u'Mosheh v'Aharon.  19 Korach assembled kol ha-edah opposite them el-petach Ohel Mo`ed.  Kavod YHWH appeared el-kol-ha-edah.

16:20 Vaidaber YHWH el-Mosheh v'el-Aharon, lemor,  21 "Separate yourselves from among ha-edah hazot, that I may consume them in a moment!"  22 They fell on their faces, vayomru, "El, Elohei ha-ruchot l'khol-basar, shall ha-ish echad sin, and will you be angry with kol ha-edah?"  23 Vaidaber YHWH el-Mosheh, lemor,  24 "Dabar el-ha-edah, lemor, 'Get away from around mishkan Korach, Datan, va-Aviram!'"

16:25 Mosheh rose up and went el-Datan va-Aviram; and ziqnei Yisra'el followed him.  26 Vaidaber el-ha-edah, lemor, "Depart, please, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest you be consumed in all their chata'im!"  27 So they went away from mishkan Korach, Datan, v'Aviram, on every side.  Datan v'Aviram came out, and stood at the petach of their tents with their nashim, their banim, and their little ones.  28 Vayomer Mosheh, "Hereby you shall know that YHWH has sent me to do kol ha-ma'asim ha-eleh; for they are not from my own heart.  29 If these men die the common death of kol ha-adam, or if they experience what all men experience, then YHWH hasn't sent me.  30 But if YHWH makes a b'riah, and ha-adamah opens its mouth, and swallows them up with all that belong to them, and they go down chayyim into she'ol, then you shall understand that ha-anashim ha-eleh have despised YHWH."

16:31 As he finished speaking kol ha-d'varim ha-eleh, ha-adamah that was under them split apart.  32 Ha-aretz opened its mouth and swallowed them up with their households, kol ha-adam asher l'Korach, and all their goods.  33 So they, and all that belonged to them went down chayyim into she'ol,  and ha-aretz closed on them, and they perished from among ha-qahal.  34 V'khol Yisra'el that were around them fled at their cry; for they said, "Lest ha-aretz swallow us up!"  35 Fire came out from YHWH, and devoured the two hundred fifty men who offered the incense.

16:36 (17:1 in Heb. Bible) Vaidaber YHWH el-Mosheh, lemor,  37 (17:2) "Speak to El'azar ben-Aharon ha-kohen, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter the fire away from the camp; for they are kadesh, 38 (17:3) even the censers of those who sinned against their own lives.  Let them be beaten into plates for a covering l'mizbeach, for they offered them lif'nei YHWH.  Therefore they are kadash.  They shall be a sign to b'nei Yisra'el."  39 (17:4) El'azar ha-kohen took the censers of n'choshet which those who were burned had offered; and they beat them out for a covering of ha-mizbeach,  40 (17:5) to be a memorial to b'nei Yisra'el, to the end that no stranger who isn't of zera Aharon, would come near to burn incense lif'nei YHWH, that he not be as Qorach, and as his company; as YHWH spoke to him by Mosheh.

16:41 (17:6) But on the next day kol adat b'nei Yisra'el complained al-Mosheh v'al-Aharon, lemor, "You have killed am YHWH!"  42 (17:7) When ha-edah was assembled al-Mosheh v'al-Aharom, they looked el-Ohel Mo`ed.  V'hinneh, the cloud covered it, and kavod YHWH appeared.  43 (17:8) Va-yavo Mosheh v'Aharon el-p'nei Ohel Mo`ed.  44 (17:9)4 Vaidaber YHWH el-Mosheh, lemor,  45 (17:10) "Get away from among ha-edat hazot, that I may consume them in a moment!"  They fell on their faces.  46 (17:11) Vayomer Mosheh el-Aharon, "Take your censer, put esh me-al ha-mizbeach in it, lay incense on it, carry it quickly el-ha-edah, and make atonement for them; for wrath has gone out from YHWH!  The plague has begun."  47 (17:12) Aharon did ka-asher diber Mosheh, and ran into the middle of ha-qahal.  The plague had already begun among ha-am.  He put on the incense, and made atonement al-ha-am.  48 (17:13) He stood bein ha-metim u'vein-ha-chayyim; and the plague was stayed.  49 (17:14) Now ha-metim by the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, in addition to those who died about the matter of Qorach.  50 (17:15) Aharon returned el-Mosheh el-petach Ohel Mo`ed, and the plague was stopped.

CHAPTER 17

17:1 (16) Vaidaber YHWH el-Mosheh, lemor,  2 (17) "Daber el-b'nei Yisra'el, and take rods from them, one for each of their fathers' houses, of all their princes according to their fathers' houses, twelve rods.  Write each man's name on his rod.  3 (18) You shall write shem Aharon on the rod of Levi. There shall be one rod for each head of their fathers' houses.  4 (19) You shall lay them up b'Ohel Mo`ed lif'nei ha-edut, where I meet with you.  5 (20) It shall happen that the rod of the man whom I shall choose shall bud.  I will make the murmurings of b'nei Yisra'el, which they murmur against you, cease from me."  6 (21) Vaidaber Mosheh el-b'nei Yisra'el; and all their princes gave him rods, for each prince one, according to their fathers' houses, a total of twelve rods.  The rod of Aharon was among their rods.  7 (22) Mosheh laid up the rods lif'nei YHWH b'Ohel ha-Edut.

17:8 (23) On the next day, Mosheh went into Ohel ha-Edut; v'hinneh, the rod of Aharon l'veit Levi had sprouted, budded, produced blossoms, and bore ripe almonds.  9 (24) Mosheh brought out all the rods mi-lif'nei YHWH el-kol-b'nei Yisra'el.  They looked, and each man took his rod.  10 (25) Vayomer YHWH el-Mosheh, "Put back the rod of Aharon lif'nei ha-Edut, to be kept for a token against the children of rebellion; that you may make an end of their complaining against me, that they not die."  11 (26) Mosheh did so. As YHWH commanded him, so he did.

17:12 (27) Vayomer b'nei Yisra'el el-Mosheh, lemor, "Behold, we perish!  We are undone!  We are all undone!  13 (28) Everyone who keeps approaching el-mishkan YHWH dies!  Will we all perish?"

CHAPTER 18

18:1 Vayomer YHWH el-Aharon, "You and your banim and your fathers' house with you shall bear the iniquity of ha-mikdash; and you and your sons with you shall bear the iniquity of your priesthood.  2 Bring your brothers also, the tribe of Levi, the tribe of your father, near with you, that they may be joined to you, and minister to you; but you and your sons with you shall be lif'nei Ohel ha-Edut.  3 They shall keep your commands and the duty of kol ha-Ohel; only they shall not come near to the vessels of ha-Kodesh v'el-ha-mizbeach, that they not die, neither they nor you.  4 They shall be joined to you and keep the responsibility of Ohel Mo`ed, for all the service of ha-Ohel.  A stranger shall not come near to you.  5 "You shall perform the duty of ha-kodesh and the duty of ha-mizbeach, that there be no more wrath al-b'nei Yisra'el.  6 V'ani, hinneh, have taken your brothers ha-L'vi'im from among b'nei Yisra'el.  They are given as a gift to you la'YHWH, to do the service of Ohel Mo`ed.  7 You and your sons with you shall keep your priesthood for everything of ha-misbeach, and for that within ha-parokhet, and you shall serve.  I give you the service of the priesthood as a gift.  The stranger who comes near shall be put to death."

18:8 Vaidaber YHWH el-Aharon, "V'ani, hinneh, have given you the command of my t'rumot, even all the holy things of b'nei Yisra'el.  I have given them to you by reason of the anointing, and to your banim, as a portion forever.  9 This shall be yours mi-kodesh ha-kadoshim min-ha-esh: kol qorban l'kol mincha u'l'khol chattat u'l'kol asham, which they shall render to me, shall be kodesh kadashim for you and for your sons.  10 B'kodesh ha-kadoshim you shall eat of it.  Every male shall eat of it.  It shall be kodesh to you.  11 "This is yours, too: the t'rumah of their gift, l'khol-t'nufot b'nei Yisra'el.  I have given them to you, and to your banim and to your banot with you, as a portion forever.  Kol (who are) tahor in your bayit shall eat of it.  12 "I have given to you all the best of the oil, all the best of the tirosh, and of the grain, the first fruits of them which they give to YHWH.  13 The first-ripe fruits of all that is in their eretz, which they bring to YHWH, shall be yours.  Kol tahor in your bayit shall eat of it.  14 "Everything devoted b'Yisra'el shall be yours.  15 Everything that opens the womb, of kol basar which they offer to YHWH, ba-adam u'va'b'hemah, shall be yours.  Nevertheless, you shall surely redeem the firstborn ba-adam, and you shall redeem the firstborn of b'hemah ha-t'me'ah.  16 You shall redeem those who are to be redeemed of them from a month old, according to your estimation, for five sh'kalim of kesef, according to shekel ha-kodesh, which weighs twenty gerah.   17 "But you shall not redeem the firstborn of a cow, or the firstborn of a sheep, or the firstborn of a goat.  Kodesh hu.  You shall sprinkle their blood al-ha-mizbeach, and shall burn their fat for an ishsheh, for a pleasant aroma la-YHWH.  18 Their basar shall be yours, as ha-t'nufah and as the right thigh, it shall be yours.  19 Kol t'rumot ha-kodashim which b'nei Yisra'el offer to YHWH, I have given you and your banim and your banot with you, as a portion forever.  B'rit melach olam hu lif'nei YHWH to you and to your zera with you."  20 Vayomer YHWH el-Aharon, "You shall have no inheritance in their aretz, neither shall you have any portion among them.  I am your portion and your inheritance among b'nei Yisra'el.

18:21 "U'li'vnei Levi, hinneh, I have given kol-ma`aser b'Yisra'el for an inheritance, in return for their service which they serve, avodat Ohel Mo`ed.  22 Henceforth b'nei Yisra'el shall not come near el-Ohel Mo`ed, lest they bear chet, and die.  23 But Levi shall do avodat Ohel Mo`ed, and they shall bear their iniquity.  (It shall be a) chukat olam throughout your dorot.  Among b'nei Yisra'el they shall have inheritance.  24 For ma'asar b'nei Yisra'el, which they offer as a t'rumah to YHWH, I have given la-L'viyyim for an inheritance.  Therefore I have said to them, 'Among b'nei Yisra'el they shall have no inheritance.'"

18:25 Vaidaber YHWH el-Mosheh, lemor,  26 "Moreover you shall speak to ha-L'viyyim, and tell them, 'When you take of b'nei Yisra'el et ha-ma'asar which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then you shall offer up a t'rumat YHWH, a ma`aser min ha-ma`aser.  27 Your t'rumah shall be credited to you, as though it were the grain of the threshing floor, and as the fullness of the wine press.  28 Thus you also shall offer a t'rumat YHWH of all your ma'asrot, which you receive of b'nei Yisra'el; and of it you shall give t'rumat YHWH la-Aharon ha-kohen.  29 Out of all your gifts, you shall offer kol t'rumat YHWH, of all its best parts, even the holy part of it.'  30 "Therefore you shall tell them, 'When you heave its best from it, then it shall be credited la-L'viyyim as the increase of the threshing floor, and as the increase of the wine press.  31 You may eat it anywhere, you and your households, for it is your reward in return for your service b'Ohel Mo`ed.  32 You shall bear no chet by reason of it, when you have heaved from it its best.  You shall not profane the holy things of b'nei Yisra'el, that you not die.f"
